FA D FA Cup Quarter-Final

Manchester United 1:1 West Ham United

Post-match discussion

Sun, 13 March 2016

Go up to them at one of the remaining games and tell them then, I'm sure they'll appreciate the advice on how they're not supporting their team properly.

 Oh so that makes it okay does it? If they tell anyone to 'feck off, I'm supporting the team', that makes them right and myself (and plenty others) in the wrong?

Pointless post.

I didn't say to boo them. I said don't fecking clap it. Like as if that is anywhere near acceptable.

It's the same fecking morons who applauded Moyes on to the pitch as well.

Of course you clap when the team or manager come out on the field. What are we meant to do..boo them when they come on? I meant what sort of message does that give? They are footballers...but human beings for goodness sake. You gee them up..hope..give them support right from the off.

Honestly don't think that fellaini was that bad. Overall those who played I think gave a good account. West ham are a difficult bunch

I go to OT a lot and I personally wouldn't clap that shite and especially wouldn't shake Van Gaals hand, it's part his fault we are in this mess to start with, why would you shake his hand because he got a draw at home?

Because we are still in it. We are not playing well....but you have to support, it's what a supporter does. I'm not saying we are happy about it, but even Fergie went out against west ham, they used to be our bogey side.

You can't compare Fergie going out against West Ham and Van Gaal getting a replay against them.

Besides, if Fergie's standards are to be held up to assess Van Gaal, he should be a goner because Ferguson's Man Utd didn't go for hours of not scoring from open play, didn't lose 2-3 games in a row, rarely went through a couple of weeks without a win, much less a whole month and sure as hell never talked about finishing fourth like it was some sort of acceptable position to finish in.

Fergie lost games, some with shocking football and against wank teams, but every time was a shock and against the grain.

We are utter diabolical now.

It's not just about the FA cup though is it? He has been useless as our manager and why should I applaud that? I don't support mediocrity, the happy clappers are obviously happy to be losers so that's where we differ.

Overall an average performance. Exactly what you would expect from 5 v 6th.

De Gea - Kept us in the game
Varela - good performance. Should start over Darmian from now on.
Smalling - solid
Blind - good passing but should play in DM
Rojo - backup to Shaw please
Fellaini- only had two jobs, be the outlet and win the headers, didn't do either particularly well but wasn't a cock up either
Carrick - fantastic servant but it's time to move on
Herrera - good energy and was fulcrum. Better no 10 then Mata
Lingard - good lively and massive running but not first XI material at this point
Rashford - coming back down to earth but show flashes of brilliance
Martial - best attacker but it's all down to him. If he has a bad game we don't have a chance

Subs

Depay - no impact, no confidence, maybe Adnan next time?
BS - move the ball quickly, quickened the tempo, he needs to be kept fresh for the run in
Darmian - just the last few minutes played.

Quite right. The only concerns I have is that Herrera is not really a no.10 and lacks creativity compared to Mata ( who si very technical but lacks speed and energy ), and although Lingard may not be good enough for the starting XI we seem very restricted in our options up front. LVG has really decimated the attack.

We were actually decent going forward. Our passing was quick and purposeful as it was against Arsenal. Our end product lacked but that isn't surprising when you play kids upfront. Defense was more disappointing today. We really should be making use of this chance we have in the fa cup. We've actually got a proper shot this year.

Rashford needs to improve his hold up play. He barely even challenges for headers. After his debut I thought he was quite physically ready but of late he's being brushed aside. Needs to show more with back to goal.

You can't have a bogey side who are above you in the league in March. Today went according to the form book, with West Ham likely to win the replay.

what about the penalty appeal for WHU? It was a clear foul and should have been given. None of our penalty claimes held any water.
I agree about our penalty claims, but what penalty should West Ham have had? I did leave the room for a few minutes so I may have missed it. Or are you talking about Payet's blatant dive that should have gotten him his second yellow?

Hey, I don't deny that, and yes we are diabolical, but I understand why the fans didn't boo. If we had lost yeah of course and rightly so with how things have gone. But we didn't...we scored late on which means most of us leave ok...not heartened..but ok considering what has happened this season. It's not that there is massive support for LVG, there isn't. But the players..our players deserve our support while they are playing for us.

It was a typical 5th vs 6th game, nothing between the teams and don't think they looked like scoring apart from that outrageous free kick. On that basis we were unlucky.

Herrera was good, Fellaini has to stop.

It's not about being or supporting losers..it's about supporting the players regardless of the manager. You can't expect these players to even begin to do a job if you are booing them. It's human nature. Of course at the end of the season there might be change, but until then, with us still in the cup..get behind them....away at WH, you never know.

Likely? we don't know that. The league this season has thrown up so many surprises. Did you predict Leicester maybe winning the league...err no. So don't count us out, not at all. That is why we need to keep supporting. Ok, if we go out..fair enough, vent bile....but we are not out...so keep supporting as a supporter should.

Yeah I completely agree with you. Just that saying even Fergie lost to West Ham is a bit disingenuous, as he won far more games than lost - unlike LVG or Moyes, who lose for fun. Probably should have seen what you were responding to in the first place though...

I actually think booing is beneath Manchester United, as we have an absolute war chest of chants that get the message across - e.g attack attack attack or singing Scholes' name.

the man has his uses but there is no place for him in this team. Really hope we don't see much of him if basti is fit now

Yes, the west ham comment was not thought out. But yes, booing is not really our style. Silence is that is for sure...with 75 thousand. It's like tonight Arsenal fans apparently were fighting with each other after their result. At OT I can't imagine that. We moan, argue.....agree....want things to change....whatever, but to fight with someone who supports the same team is weird to me. Never ever felt that after a match whether it was Moyes or LVG. We just say shite manager etc etc.....and then after a while talk about our lives...!! Football eh..

What I am saying is that we are no longer in 2013 when United was a trophy winning machine and West Ham were basement dwellers. We have been relatively mediocre for three years and therefore comments about West Ham being a bogie side for Fergie (13 league titles in 20 years) are at best irrelevant and at worst complacent - implying United have a natural level to which they will return.

Never were good enough to win that. Only time we looked dangerous was for a few minutes after our goal, but that quickly dissipated. Pretty entertaining second half, but unacceptable result. Much more difficult result at Upton Park now.

I agreed in another reply to someone that my comment was not thought out..it was wrong.

Away at West Ham will be tough. This was a real chance to make the semis.

Yeah I think his use is behind the striker and lob in long balls to him. And we don't want to be that team unless it's dire straits. There's certainly no place for him in CM. Hence the ironic cheers when he got subbed.

OK, apologies, I didn't read that post. I think we're all p1ssed off and wondering how we ended up in such a mess after just 3 years. Most of the time when Fergie bombed out of the cup, it was because he had bigger fish to fry (champions league in particular). Now....

you do recognise that some fans support their club through mediocrity though don't you? like 598 / 600 clubs in the country have such fans really

And that is fine, as will I. But I won't applaud and shake hands with the man responsible for the downfall of the club when it shouldn't be the case given the resources he has had given to him.

Good points mate.

Under Fergie there would always be an instant response either in the second half or in the very next game.

Would Fergie have sat there grinning like a Cheshire Cat at the final whistle after drawing against West Ham at home? Like feck he would have! He'd have been getting his vocal chords ready to take the paint off the walls in the dressing room.
