Europa League 2015/2016

Reus is very prone to fading away in decisive matches. Somehow turns it on against Real Madrid but overall it's really underwhelming.

Moreno is lucky there. Another ref might have seen the two feet off the ground.

Can you imagine the number of stars and planets that would have to align for 'Pool to win the EL, City to miss out on 4th but win the CL and us to scrape 4th (saving LvG's job in the process) only to lose out on top tier European footy. Wonder what the odds would be?
Probably much more likely than Leicester being in pole position for the league title at this point. I'd say the likelihood is about one tenth of a Leicester.

Sevilla 2-1 up at Bilbao. They're going to win it for the third time in a row, aren't they?

If spurs played thteir full teAm then they would have dealt with this dortmund as well. So unimpressive. PL 7th placed Liverpool yawning their way to a nice away draw.

One of Rafa's great qualities as LFC manager was to make his opposition teams play like crap. Even when the teams themselves were high quality.

That's what this feels like tonight. Great stuff from Klopp.

Wonder what it would feel like to have some optimism about an improving team. Sigh.

No mate, it's changed.... it's the COMBO of both of City and Pool coming outside top 4 and winning their cups that would keep us out.
Either/Or wouldn't.

Before this year, the Europa didn't have a champs league place, so when Tottenham finished 4th and Chelsea were outside top 4 but won the cup...Tottenham missed out. (Only 4 places per country allowed back then)

Now, up to 5 places are allowed...so it needs victors in both cups, who have fallen outside top 4 to keep the 4th placed team out.
So between the 2 we should be ok. Roll on performing well enough to get top 4!

From the Uefa website itself.....

Regarding the top three associations (i.e. Spain, Germany and England*): if two clubs from one of these countries win the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, and neither finish their domestic league in a position that qualifies them for the UEFA Champions League, the following will happen:

– The club that won the UEFA Champions League will go straight into the group stage
– The UEFA Europa League winners will go into the UEFA Champions League play-offs
– The club that had qualified for a UEFA Champions League play-off spot via their domestic league competition (i.e. finished fourth) will transfer into the UEFA Europa League
It would make more sense. Every article only talks about the Europa league winner giving an extra spot. It doesn't mention the possibility of the CL winner getting an extra spot. i.e. If Liverpool don't win Europa, City win the CL but finish 5th, do 5 qualify? They must do.

No red for Moreno is fecking ridiculous.
Unbelievable, even more so that he wasn't even booked. Brainless doing that down at Dortmund's corner flag as well. Had to be a red for the nature of the challenge.

Pretty sure Nani just got sent off for that Moreno challenge.

*totally still not bitter*

You've stumbled upon a great system. I reckon BetFred should start quoting odds as fractions of "A Leicester"
Yeah I definitely think that's something they should look into. And if someone, somehow, manages to win a bet with A Full Leicester odds, they should just get all the money.

Yep, from this year on 5 can (in fact 5 can even from leagues that have 3 places...top 3, and then the 2 cup winners again). You did have me worried for a second, but it's been in the papers apparently, a couple of people have mentioned it to me, and on here a lot have been saying what the Uefa site confirmed. The media love these what if scenarios.
The odds on us coming 4th, and those 2 both winning their cups, City for the first time ever in such an average season would make Leicester's title win look a banker in August!

Dortmund playing far too much through the middle. If the wide players held the width just to the edge of the box when going forward it would make a huge difference

Where's the urgency? It's like watching United play.
I'm shocked to be honest. Tuchel also took Aubameyang off which shocks me even more. This is very unlike the Dortmund we saw throughout the season.

It's probably because of the game against Schalke on Sunday, but it doesn't change the fact that Dortmund have to go for the win.

Clyne looks about as useful as Darmian with his forward hoofing.

They will be in the CL next season, why not try to actually win a trophy. Cannot see Bayern giving up their title.

Exactly mate! I reckon it'd have to at least be in the 5,000-1 Leicester were given to win the league in August.

On the face of it, we're all big clubs, but I think the odds of City not coming top 4, yet winning the big cup alone would be huge. Without adding the other scenarios in.

Very good result for Liverpool, gotta be favorites to progress now. Dortmund will be under pressure at Anfield

But come on...top 3 is pretty much secured in the Bundesliga, why not go all out today.

Really good result that. Completely in the balance for the second leg.

It is more likely because a conceaded goal would hurt us way more than scoring one ourselves. Tuchel is banking the tie on the return leg.

Because they don't have to. 1-1 isn't a great result, but they can win at Anfield or get a 2-2 draw, it's not like they're now all but out.
