You have to admire his competitiveness. He is obsessed with winning. If only we had more players like him. What a player. 16 goals in 10 games is unreal. He'll break his own record. Imagine he reaches 20 goals in the CL alone? That's just incredible.
The way it's going with Madrid's draw, I'd expect them to get Benfica if they manage to knock out Munich and he can quite easily score 4 against them in two games.

16 goals in 10 games..... Only one player has more goals in a champions league campaign....... Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo hattricks in the CL this season (3). Everyone other player (3).

First player ever to score 30+ league goals for six seasons in a row across all the top leagues.

Has scored 45+ goals in all comps for sixth straight season.

Has the most goals at the QF stage of the European Cup/CL history with 15.

34 goals in 36 knockout CL games.

He just keeps breaking records.

The greatest goal scorer in football history.

Just one goal to go before he becomes the first player ever to score 100 goals in the Champions League / European Cup as well, I think. Ridiculous.

Edit: My bad, I think he's on 96 now, not 99. At least according to this.

Not sure he isn't actually.
Ronaldo is great but Messi is on a different planet. Anyway, don't want to make this a Messi v Ronaldo thread. Both are legends in their own right and we're lucky to watch them both.

So. How's his record against City? I can't recall a single game while he was with us where he had a stormer against them :nervous:
He's scored against them for Madrid already.

Piss him off, whether it's the opposition or it's his own team and he'll give you a rebuttal. He's unbelievable.

Having only seen the highlights I don't know what his all-round game was like tonight but his scoring record is just silly. He's gonna hit 50 again this year and he's had a terrible season in front of goal by his standards. Getting rid of Rafa and Messi winning the Balon d'Or seems to have wound him up enough to get going again, I didn't think he had it in him.

Haters gon' hate and he'll always use it to prove them wrong. Gotta admire him for the sheer fight in him more than all of his other qualities.

I fecking love this guy, just remember I put a fiver on sky bets boost for Madrid to win 3-0.

Won me £50. The love continues to grow

IMO Messi is the greatest footballer of all time, and Ronaldo is the greatest goalscorer of all time. Not saying this like it's some hipster opinion, I'd imagine a lot of people would agree. He's just incredible.

Recently scored a winner against them while at Real in the 2012-2013 CL.

Don't think his record vs them while at United was impressive, but then again he wasn't the same player he is now.

If Ronaldo breaks his scoring record in the Champions League I'm fairly certain I won't live to see it broken again. 18 goals (or more, even) isn't supposed to happen in real life. The guy is a freak.

Overall, Messi is the better player, but in terms of sheer single-minded determination to produce records and statistics Ronaldo is in a league of his own. He's on his way to scoring more than 50 goals in all competitions for the sixth consecutive season. Messi's streak in that respect stopped at three.

Cristiano IS Real Madrid - he just carries the team to success !

If Messi had this quality, I think Barca, as a team, would have suffered.

I remember:

Him scoring against them in the FA Cup.

Scoring and playing really well at home in 06/07

Scoring the pen he won away in 07 when that cnut stamped on him.

Scoring a free kick in 09 at home.

Scored twice and a 90th min winner for Madrid against them in 12/13.

It's simply hilarious how Madrid might replace him in the summer with Eden fecking Hazard.

He's Real's greatest ever, he's the level best European player ever (imo), best Portugeuse player ever and in the top 10 of all time internationally, only behind the likes of Pele, Maradona, Messi and Crouch.

Football will miss him dearly when he retires, or worse - moves to PSG.

The haters must be gutted right now, sure they'll find an excuse for him scoring three tonight though
The tragic thing is, most of them are already banned from this thread anyway.
@Bob Loblaw must be furious that he's unable to reply now:lol:

Messi is 2 years younger though. I reckon he could wrap up the CL topscorer title too unless Ronaldo keeps doing the business deep into his 30s. Anyway, huge credits to Ronaldo, a hattrick in such a crucial game.

If Messi had this quality, I think Barca, as a team, would have suffered.

That goes both ways, if Madrid weren't lacking a lot in squad planification/management he could be having a better season. Maybe even transition to a striker/2nd striker role and shut the debate about his decline for 3 more years.

Wow just wow.. That guy is a machine..

Who'd have thought that skinny, buck toothed, terrible hair style fresh faced young kid tearing Bolton apart would go on to become the greatest goal scorer of all time.

Comparing the two you just have to admire what you can accomplish with sheer determination and hard work. Imagine Messi putting in the same shift as Ronaldo. Messi obviously could never reach the same height (physically) but it's clear that football comes easier to him than most and that Ronaldo spends more time working on his game to keep things "level".

I can reply.

No criticism of him tonight from me. I didn't see the game but these are the types of games he needed to get back to - I've said already this season that it's unfair to say he's not a big game player overall, but it's true he hadn't really delivered in the big games this season.

Can't comment on his performance but he's dragged Madrid through so fair play.

Thats what you really have to respect about Ronaldo. There is just absolutely no way he should have been able to achieve what he has. He is no different than someone like Quresma in terms of ability especially at a young age and look what he has acomplished. As you said it's different for messi he already looked like he could become this good from the moment he stepped on the pitch for the first time. Ronaldo is the model for any young player growing up, I know people hate him but he deserves what he has got never seen a player with soo much determination.

Very true the bit about Quaresma - there was a time when they were contemporaries here at the CAF, to the point where some (back in 2002) were making the argument that Quaresma was better. Just shows that ability is only 1/3 of the equation, with effort and football IQ being the others.

Apart from when he did what no one had done for 6 months - score the winning goal against Barcelona (and in Camp Nou for good measure).

He scores a hat trick and suddenly he's the best ever again.

Messi is better, has always been better and will always be better. Get a grip.

He's still a legend though.

This.

A poacher will never be considered the best in the world.

Ronaldo is the best scorer in the world. Messi is the second best scorer but also the best dribbler, best passer and has the best vision. Ronaldo is amazing but the comparisons are just not fair.

If the football gods have decreed that United have served its penance for all those years of glory under Ferguson and they now allow us to bring in Jose and Cristiano, we'd be out of our fukking minds to say no.

I've watched United for over 50 years and he is the best player I've ever seen at OT.

Calling Ronaldo a poacher is just plain wrong. He's a goal machine that can score from almost anywhere in the opposition half. That alone makes him more than a poacher. There's also this strange narrative that Ronaldo just hangs around and waits to get on the end of crosses and passes in behind the defence all game. He doesn't dictate the game like Messi does, but he still gets way more involved than both Bale and Benzema do. He's got an impressive amount of assists since joining Real.

Messi is easily the better footballer. That's not really up for discussion. As many games as Ronaldo has won "on his own", he'll never be able to completely dominate an entire team with the arsenal of weapons that Messi has in his locker. The problem with Messi having this superhuman level of skill is that it seems like people have fallen into the whole "Yeah, Ronaldo is a goalscorer, but Messi is a goalscorer and a playmaker, ergo Ronaldo can only score goals" logical fallacy. Ronaldo is an amazing goalscorer, but he still contributes as much to the other areas of attacking play as any other regular top level footballer. If van Gaal put Ronaldo in our team and for some crazy (but entirely probable considering it's van Gaal) reason told him he wasn't allowed to score and that he had to provide Rooney with all the service in the world, he'd completely take the piss out of every single one of our players, for example.
