Martial vs Origi

Who, what on earth says that Origi is definitivt faster than Martial? Origi has been outpaced numerous times, but Martial makes players like Coleman look positively slow. His sprints just looks like he jogs though. I can't see Origi being much stronger either as Martial rarely loses physical battles.

Origi has become an absolute beast over the season, physically. Had to change shirt size as well. Definitely stronger.

I think Origi is faster without the ball, but Martial has better speed with the ball at his feet.

Has to be said, anyone saying either is definitely better than the other is playing a fool's game. All three are in a really uncertain place in their development where it is hard to say what is a bout of confidence, what is a sign of things to come and how far they will go with it. Rashford is barely a senior and Origi has only just been coming into his own as a strong player in the last few months.

Martial looks like the most certain one to make it as a big player, but it is very hard to say how far the others will go at this stage of their development.

Agree about Origi's strength. Martial is probably quicker over short distances though, even without the ball. Origi's top speed is higher though.

Imagine if Liverpool had an 18 year old English talent who had scored 6 in 11 against top sides. This place would be in meltdown.
It really would! Our scouts, the glazers and LVG would all be getting pelters.

I always liked the look of Origi after his performances for Belgium at The World Cup.

I couldn't believe Rodgers loaned him out lasts season.

He's a dream for Klopp who likes his strikers to be mobile and full of movement. Benteke won't run the channels.

I think Matrial is an elite player in the making though, where as I think Origi will become a very good striker but not quite elite.

Martial is quoted as having the highest top speed in the PL this season alongside Vardy. His lazy looking style looks slower, but he is rapid.

Martial is probably better but I think he's ridiculously overrated on here.

Agree that it's true he doesn't have it easy with your team being a bit dysfunctional, but equally it's easier to look good when your teammates aren't playing well.

Top speed doesn't matter in football, players never reach it except maybe defenders once or twice.

It would seem then, that we are at an impasse.

I saw a mail on F365 yesterday with the opinion that Origi was in fact better than Martial, only a matter of time before a thread was made on here.

I have to say, I thought Origi was a complete dud when they first bought him but he looks a useful player.

You don't have a youngster anywhere close to Martial. Ridiculously overrated my arse.

He's overrated because people have watched him play regularly and rightfully think he's one of the best young players in the world?

It's actually the exact opposite. He's showing tremendous maturity and consistency in his play and that's one of the things that have surprised people.

Some people expect him to shit on the opposition defenders (like he did with Skrtel) every single game, but that's their fault. He's 20, not 30. Still, he's capable of shitting on entire defences when he's on form and the run against Spurs was just another example. He looks good because he's actually very good, not because he's surrounded by underperforming players.

Sturridge simply has not played enaugh to be compared to Welbeck.
Sturridges goal record in his Liverpool career speak for itself. Welbeck doesnt come close IMO, its as close to a non-contest as you can get.

Origi is shite. Proper shite.

Martial is so far better it's beyond ridiculous that this thread even exists. Typical of the all round Liverpool wankfest that has infested this forum since that clown took over.

Welbeck is better than Sturridge though.

Yeah, okay.

I like the compliment and then the dig to even things out.

:D Not far from the truth, though. Put Martial with Couthino & Firmino and he'd be scoring more than he currently is.

If United get a good manager in & sign some attacking talent, I can see Martial getting 15-20 next year.

Yeah, okay.

He'll get 15 by the end of this season. Him and rashers gonna wreck the PL with 30 each next season.

Not really, I'm correct. It takes about 60-70m for someone to reach their top speed. Footballers never come close to that. The closest we see is someone like Jagielka having to chase a ball for 50m which is why you often see so many defenders at the top of the "fastest players" lists. Football is all about small sprints and being fast over the first 5-10 meters matters a lot more.

Sadly it isnt about who scores more goals for Liverpool..
He has played 150 odd league games in 10 years. Simply not enaugh. That is why the likes of Ledley King arent considered one of the best of the Premier League era even though his talent says he should be there.
Not enough games. If I go back 10 years.. Knowing what you know now.. Who do you choose? Be honest now. I read a few Pool fans on here wanting to sell him a few months ago.

Would've bought Sturridge & not offered him £150k p/w. At < £100k p/w my sell-Sturridge attitude would flip pretty fast, and I'm in the minority in wanting him sold now anyway.

Why on earth would van Gaal and Woodward be 'getting pelters' because Liverpool happened to have a talented youngster who'd been signed 10 years ago?

Not going to lie. I have to agree about him being overrated by some.
But it's to be expected... There isn't a whole lot to cheer about for us United fans right now.

And whenever that's the case we (as a group) tend to look for little victories wherever we can find them. The idea of having the best youngster around (or best goalkeeper, or best centre back etc.) consoles some. People are quite defensive over Martial, I've noticed.

I think Martial's ceiling is higher than Origi's. Origi is having a nice run of form but Martial's been playing at a very good level for most of the season.

Think this is what I'd say too, no slight on Origi though who if he keeps this form up could easily become a very good striker for you.

You're kidding right? They get pelters for everything!

People are overlooking Origi's close control and skill to beat defenders at close quarters. Maybe because they're focusing on his other good attributes.

Edit: I don't know who is or is going to be better. Both are outstanding.

Overrated doesn't mean shit.

Did I say it did? You're still talking out of you arse. You might as well call any young talent overrated if you think Martial is. Actually, I can remember quite a lot of your friends over at RAWK calling Ronaldo overrated too when he was of a similar age.

Yep just look when Iheanacho had his decent run for City. Our whole youth system had to be restructered due to that run!
It was a sure sign City would rule the world and we had to accept our peasant future..

My friends at RAWK?

I think Martial is a top talent, I also think Martial is overrated by a lot on here who think he's the the finished article.

Tongue in cheek means...

It's not even close in my opinion. A couple of good games and the comparisons begin

I thought you were a Liverpool fan, no? I've never seen anyone one here saying he's the finished article. If some did though, well then yeah he's being overrated by them. As a young talent you can't possible say that though, he's ridiculous for a 20 year old.

I'd rather have Welbeck in the England squad/team and I am not a massive fan of Welbeck.
Fair enough , entitled to your opinion, just genuinely baffled how this comparison is even alive today. Injury prone AF and looks to to have lost a yard of pace but still our best player hands down.

Sturridge made his England debut five years ago and has made only 17 app and scored only 5 goals. He is totally unreliable and not a very good goalscorer at international level. Welbeck has been a lot better for England and has more attributes beyond goal threat that Sturridge doesn't have. I just don't see Sturridge's value to this England team.

You are right - it normally takes about 60 meters to reach top speed. However, judging the top speed of attackers in a game therefore says a lot about their acceleration. Time and again, Vardy shows the highest top speed clocked for Leicester, and he has the highest top speed recorded in the PL this season, alongside Martial. Martial doesn't make those long runs, so that says a lot about his acceleration. The 40 yard dash is the best way to evaluate a player's speed in a straight line, but agility is at least as important.

What is impressive about Martial more than his outright speed is his close control, even at high speed. His balance and centre of gravity are brilliant. He can work on his decision making, shooting and passing, but he has real promise.
