Post-match discussion

Almost perfectly summed up our season that.

- Loss away from home? Check.
- Being outplayed for a long period and lucky not to concede more? Check.
- Martial single-handedly having to carry our attack? Check.
- Ridiculously bad defending from set pieces? Check.
- Had a golden opportunity to catch up with/get past our rivals, but failed? Check.
- Low scoring game? Fail.

Oooo, so close. Almost a bit disappointing...
We also lost the possession. Very unusual in that regard.

We seem to have made a habit in the last 3 years of giving ourselves a glimmer of hope and then it's almost instantly ruined.

Evra against Bayern, holy shit we're winning we're going through. 60 seconds later Bayern score and we lose.

OG against Wolfsburg, yes it's 2-2 we are going to scrape through the group, 60 seconds later oh it's 3-2 and we lose

2-1 against West Ham, yes we are going to scramble to top 4, 5 minutes later oh it's 3-2 and we lose.

It makes it all the more painful.

We have become bigger bottlers than the North London clubs. Problem is we are actually a bit shit at football as well.

Same old story under Van Gaal: a rival slips up, we get the chance to take advantage, and then f-k up ourselves. It wasn't even surprising.

I am down but not shocked, defeat is no longer something United is unused to. It's expected now. That's what Moyes and Van Gaal have done to us.

I remember when Louis said we live in the past, expecting success. Better to live in the past than pretend this garbage is good.

Feck me they're making a song and dance over leaving the Boleyn.

You would've thought it was the Olympics closing ceremony the way they're going about it. Cringeworthy as shit.

A Beatles song and some fireworks?

Is that the big send off?

Should be some Chas n' Dave and a stabbing.

Yes but LvG would try and justify that by saying United scored 2 from 4, West Ham scored 3 from 20, so that would be in his view, something positive.

I would spin that back on the old fool and say that with our conversion rate if we created 30 chances we'd score 15 goals a game :D

"UNI-TED. United are the team for me!"

Yes united in being fecking shit

I once tought being a united player meant you played with your hearth on your sleeve, you ran till your leggs would die on you and then you ran some more, you'd put your head where others wouldn't put dear to put their foot and you would do it all for the badge, the glory and the fans.

Now I see players like Schneiderlin, Memphis, Darmian and I think being a united player means you get paid alot, star in some commericals and every week you do your best to pretend to be a footballer

Totally agree. Hate all the self-mythologising around West Ham, they're the Liverpool of London. They showed their true colours by attacking United's coach before the game (which will now be conveniently forgotten of course).

And what more can you expect from Martin Tyler? This is a bloke who said, on air, "I've got to try to be impartial" during the Leicester game. He deserves to be sent to the Traveller's yard along with LVG.

I didn't have Martin Tyler on my game though I have no doubt he was just as bad as whoever I had. Outside of national bias there is no real need to cheer one team over the other. You can add drama, sure, but to will a story into the game to such a level is ridiculous.

I'm nearly in fecking tears here. Can't remember the last time I was so upset about losing a game of football.

Just need those Scouse cnuts to win that fecking cup to round off a perfect week.

That's next week.

Im inclined to agree with you. Emotions are running high now, but our club has good players playing a shite system.
And I'm sick of the 'oh our squad isn't good enough anyway' excuse. How can people still come out with that in this fecking season? Look at the table! Tell me who won the effing league! Does anyone seriously think Leicester have a better squad than us?

Or, for that matter, that Chelsea have a worse squad than 8 teams in the league?

As someone else said LVG should have got the boot last December.Hes been that bad.
We were playing a mob who's main route to goal is via a deadball expert and what do we do? Give away endless opportunities! The mind boggles.
I'm sure Pardew was watching with interest.
Sky and Tyler in particular were disgracefully partisan.
The West Ham 'fans' who bottled the coach equally bad. Were they in training for France.

For a team that can not do basic defending and poorer still at set piece defending, they give a shed load of free kicks in dodgy areas.

Complete lack of discipline.

Continually giving away free-kicks to a big side, with Payet. What do you think will happen?

To be leading the game and throw it away like that is so poor.

Martial is just world class. And he hardly had a sniff. Build a proper team around him.

I see so many posts about our supposedly average squad that isn't better than top 6 but let me ask you this: Is this West Ham team more talented than us? I don't see any way how you can make that case. Football is a team game, you can have many good players but still look worse than many other sides when you aren't managed properly. I'm not trying to take anything away from Bilic, he's a decent manager, but he's nowhere near good enough for them to beat us. Neither was Wolfsburg or PSV or any other decent side that has beaten us.

The only reason we're still in the Champions League race is because City is equally as inconsistent as us and is having a very underwhelming season in the league as well.

All of this is not to say that we don't have holes in our squad but the biggest weakness is our manager and there's no way around it.

I know it's pathetic to complain about this, but it's fecking annoying this vital game for us fell on West Ham's final game of the season. They were fecking shit against Swansea and then their fans bring the best atmosphere I've ever seen at Upton Park to our must win game. It just had to be against us didn't it?
Nope. Fixture list came out way long ago, and last home game tends to see best home support for most teams. We made this a vital game ourselves by not getting the job done earlier in the season.

West Ham were always probably going to win on their big day but after getting out of so much trouble to go 2 1 up, to then stupidly give away the game and probably our big chance of nicking top 4 was gutting.

Didn't think anyone had a particularly brilliant game. Herrera was terrible, while Schneiderlin was pointless and Blind was surprisingly dodgy tonight. Ultimately it was the constant free kicks that we gave away which was our undoing, Herrera being main culprit (the last one was Valencia but I thought he wasn't too bad). How our players were unable to maintain their discipline and shepherd West Ham away from the penalty area was unbelievable.

Rooney was probably one of our better players on the day, as he looked like the only one who gave a damn. Antonio played Martial much better this time and thus a little supdued but managed to get a good brace which is maybe testament to his ability.

Only thing we can do now is beat Bournemouth at the weekend and pray that the gods of football are on our side, though I'm not particularly optimistic at the moment.

Just a quicky on the events beforehand. If the United coach was definitely late for the ground then we deserve to be fined. However, it doesn't excuse the tiny minority of West Ham fans from attacking the coach. I hate to say it, but if you really felt the need to be intimidating then they should have followed Liverpool's example against Dortmund or Villareal (feel really dirty right now). But was inexcusable was the reporters and O'Sullivan for batting the issue away and trying to fault us, maybe they were ill-informed but after looking at what happened, they should feel embarrassed. Unfortunately, football fans like a bit of tit for tat, and our supporter won't forget this. You can expect that the idiots on the red side will be waiting for their moment against West Ham when they visit us next year.

Even the Januzaj sub had resemblances to the Nick Powell sub at Wolfsburg. He never learns, he's quite possibly the worst manager in all the leagues and yet the biggest club in England want to keep him because he says he's one of the best managers in the world!

Sack him before the FA Cup final.

In a must win game. A MUST WIN game:

West Ham had 20 shots to our 3.

That is abject.

We just cannot hold a lead in a big game to save our lives.

No top premier league club should be physically bullied like this, van gaal created a team not meant to play in this league.

Jesus Christ! Ffs! I expected a defeat and was pretty content at half time, it was going as expected, bottlejob and all that. Then things gets better in the 2nd half and suddenly we find ourselves 2-1 up with 17 minutes left, are we really going to get top 4 and put Pep in charge of a EL team next season? Surely not? Oh yes we are, get in there! And then bottlejob comes along again, City and Pep is having the last laugh and we're back in that fecking EL. The biggest club in the world my ass, biggest shite in the world, we're fecking useless and proper losers again.

It turns out it's not the hope that kills you, it's Marcos pissing Rojo. Same old shower of shit, different night.

If the United coach was definitely late for the ground then we deserve to be fined.

Ironically I don't see how they can be now. Surely they can only judge on what time we get to the ground, not what time we get to the next street? And being late to the ground can be put down to being attacked.
