This guy might be a good manager, but he certainly has no belief that SAF had, no hunger SAF had, and not bottle to even finished 2nd
He's had several good seasons of getting clubs to play above their status, although moyes had the same and that didn't work out

nobody is like SAF tho so more important question will be what are vs attributes vs more relevant figures ie. managers still in the game
Next season will be a huge test, this season can't be called a major success either.
IMO he himself thinks that the job is done for this year, and he didn't believe in catching up to Leicester. Which is weird considering he's chasing an underdog and a not a prime City/Chelsea/United team.
Not that I blame him, he probably got a top 6 target and he's past that 3/4 of the season and took his gas off.
Next season will definetly tell a lot about his managerial capabilities. However, I would call this season a success and I would not look too much into how they ended it.
He definitely has potential but is vastly overrated and has never won anything.

Defo took their foot off the gas as a team but not sure if that came at manager level - his background isn't of a person that gets the minimum and lets go. Needs to change mentality at the club as he's been talking about recently.
It's subjective these days,a manager is crowned or dethroned in a 3 game period these days.
Even Fergie would have been sacked in today's climate, long before that palace cup final.
Poch could be the best manager who ever lived, however one bad spell and your name is dirt, such is the ridiculous climate of football management.

Flavour of the month, just like Martinez, Moyes, Martin O'Neill, Scolari, AVB, Martin Jol, Brentan Rodgers, Sven and Mancini. Eventually they run out of steam, the fans turn on them and they're fired. This wouldn't surprise me next season.
He needs to win a trophy. The longer he goes without one the less likely he will be to do it.

Of course it's been a success. They're in the CL. No one would have expected a title at the beginning of this season.
They ended the season like crap and that is certainly a bit worrisome regarding his man management skills. But the guy is a very promising manager and you just had to watch them play most of this season (ie, pre-Chelsea) to see that. They were organized, determined, a team of coordinated movement both with and without the ball.
Spurs were also very lucky with injuries this year, particularly keeping almost the entire spine of their team healthy and playing together week after week. A big test for any manager comes when you need to improvise the team constantly to get through tough patches, so we'll have to see about that. They looked like total crap without Alli and Dembele in the middle in these last couple games.

Thank goodness the Caf has you to rate managers.
It is amazing, the last few games seems to have erased a lot of people memories about their whole performance this season.
It is good to have a proper perspective like this on RedCafe.

Think hes a good manager but the way his team collapsed in the 80th minute against Chelsea until now suggests something is seriously wrong with the bottle, desire and professionalism of the team he has set up. Doing double training sessions at the end of the season when everyone else is taking days off has surely been exposed as stupid now too.
A fix?
I really like Poch but I rated (and still rate) AVB so highly. Was sickened by his treatment in England. Such a good manager and had the momentum taken from him by cnut players at Chelsea and the press derailed him at Spurs in a vile fashion.

I wouldn't really hold this end of season form against him. Once United had lost the title, I couldn't really care whether we finished 2nd or 3rd, even more so back in 92 when, like Spurs this year, we had lost our best chance in decades. Having said that, he is still in the promising but not fully proven basket.
Not great IMO. Of course not crap either. I think he'll end up somewhere in the middle - very good manager, but not in the Simeone, Mou, etc tier.
To me Ranieri, Koeman and Bilic, have done better this season with worse teams and set of players this season.
Sure Poch had pretty good season, although underwhelming finish, but I think number of managers were better than him even in his best so far in his career.
Big Sam also deserves a mention for yet another great saving job losing only 4 in the last 19 games for Sunderland.
