James Wilson | On Loan to Brighton and Hove Albion

I'd like to see Wilson used on the right side of a front three, coming inside on his left foot to shoot.

Me too. I actually think that position would suit him better than centre forward at the moment.

Good to see him scoring today! As someone previously posted it's not bad for his first six months of proper senior football. I read he's struggled with injuries and illness too, plus it can't be easy being on loan as it is. He should be looking at how often Lingard has played this season and think if he works hard and improves then there's a place for him in the side. Personally I'd love to see him in and around the side next season, if not then a full season Championship loan could be terrific for him.

Came on and scored the equaliser in the fifth minute of added time today. Which meant around 29,000 of the record crowd at the Amex today went home more cheerfully than they might otherwise have done. He's popular at Brighton and could yet become a cult hero if he scores the winner against the smoggies on Saturday.

Question is what's he worth? Because has to be doubtful he will coming back, that is unless Giggs got the job...

I doubt the club would be in a hurry to sell a 20 year old....

Why would they sell him? It would make no sense.

No point him been here if he doesn't get a look in, no sign of that happening any time soon imo, same applies to a few other promising kids, but time will tell, and I hope he gets a proper chance at some point.

It's his first loan. He's had health and fitness problems. We'll have a look at him for at least another season before making any decisions. No need to worry

Logic would agree, but United and logic don't always go hand in hand anymore, if LvG stays I fear for a lot of players, Wilson would just be one of many.

We'd be stupid to sell him.

If he could get over his injury and health problems, he'll be class no doubt.

Lol, scores an important goal for Brighton and next thing you know it, needs to be sold. This forum...

Why would anyone think he'd be sold?! Very excited for him to either come back to play for a spot, or come up with Brighton and stay there as season. The latter would be the best.

James Wilson itching to prove he's a big-game player by firing Brighton into the Premier League
The on-loan Manchester United striker is hoping he can help the Seagulls see off Middlesbrough and secure automatic promotion this weekend

James Wilson wants to prove he is a big-match player by firing Brighton into the Premier League in his final game for the club.

The on-loan England U21 striker aims to win a place back at Manchester United next season.

But first Wilson is seeking a victory in a £200m showdown at Middlesbrough on Saturday to send Brighton back to the top flight for the first time in 33 years - and avoid the an extra three games in the real playoffs.

“The whole point of this loan move is to gain valuable experience,” he said. “I think I’ve done that - and then some.

“My full focus is on Brighton for the rest of the season. But I’ve got to go back and show what I can do for the next season.

“And this will be valuable experience playing Boro – it will be like a playoff final. Other than my debut, this is the most pressure game I’ve been in. We’re all looking forward to going up to Boro and hopefully getting a result.

“We’re all in a group chat with the United players and we’re all willing each other on to do certain things either individually or as a team. I wish them all the best for the FA Cup. It’s the best of both worlds.”

Wilson, 20, said his move to the South Coast had improved him on and off the pitch.

“I’m more of an extrovert now,” he said.“I was quite shy when I first came in. I think I’ve developed as a player and as a person as well. That was a big part of me moving away from Manchester.

“I’ve always been in and around Manchester since I was seven. I’m used to whatever goes on and moving up the age groups.

“This was something very different. I’ve enjoyed my time and hopefully we can do it for the fans and get promoted to the Premier League.”

Wilson, who joined on loan in December, came off the bench to score his fifth Brighton goal to snatch a draw with Derby – and now wants to start at Boro.

“They’re a good side,” he insisted. “Through the first part of the season when they beat us just before Christmas they were very strong.

“But the last few weeks they’ve not been at their best. We come into the game in fairly decent form.

“We haven’t been beaten in a few games and that helps with the goal at the end of the game.

“It gives confidence to the lads knowing we’re still unbeaten in the last few games.”

Nice little article. It's going to be some end to the season with a guaranteed promotion spot in the hands of either Brighton or Boro, let's hope Wilson can propel 'em up here.

should extend his stay if they play premier league next season. fingers crossed but I think we are buying a new striker anyway so he must realy shine as Rashford got ahead of him in the pecking order..

Zero chance he'll be sold this summer. Very highly regarded at United
Not to have a go at you, I'm just curious, but your statement is quite vague. By whom is he highly regarded? The coaching staff? The manager? His teammates? The board?

Teammates have name dropped him a few times over the last year or two when doing interviews, and he's very well rated within the youth ranks because he had an excellent goalscoring record.

Wilson was a winger in his younger days. The problem with Wilson is pretty much the problem he had in youth levels. His quality is that he's got a great shot on him. He can beat his man and he's got so much potential. BUT when he's quiet he's quiet. So it's important to play quality balls into him. I don't think that's happened at Brighton for him. They've done well, but the quality isn't quite there. You get him in the final third and on the ball and he will score but it's important he's encouraged to take his man on.

Some more work in the gym would do him the world of good. In this United team he'd do alright I think. We've progressive players though we've not aways played progressive football. Talk of sale is incredibly premature. Once he has the confidence and the physicality at this level, he will be a very good United player. He's not the same but he has the same scoring potential as Kane. So we have to be patient. He's a clean striker of the ball but like anything you need to get into a rhythm.

Luck plays such a big part in football. I think Wilson would have found it easier in this current set up then the dire shite he featured in the season before. But he needs to toughen up and then we need to get him facing defenders in the final third.

He was unlucky he was part of the first team squad when we had both RVP and Falcao around. Also unlucky this season he went out on loan when he did. Heck Will Keane has been massively unlucky this season.

In any case I get the impression we rate him highly, I expect a loan in the PL next season, hopefully with Brighton if they get promoted and lets see if he can kick on. A good season and he could still yet make it at United.

Teammates and coaches have all had plenty of positive things to say. He'll be given a chance if he's good enough

Giggsy didn't even seem to know what position he played in that video of him as Interim Manager with his Class of 92 buddies
Giggs didn't even say anything about Wilson. The only thing he said was who is best in the hole? And with Wilson being the only striker to start that game I doubt he was one of the options but rather the other 4 possible number tens who started the game. Steve Round asked is Wilson good in the hole, not Giggs. Butt then says Tom Lawrence is good in the hole, Wilson is great around the six yard box and has the greatest standing jump you will ever see. At no point does Giggs say anything about Wilson or what position he plays.

I haven't watched it for a while. Might re-watch it, I could do with a laugh.

The goal against Derby? That goal didn't matter because a draw against Boro does nothing for them. They have to beat them.

Wish him all the best. I maintain that he has a lot to show in senior football to indicate he will be a United player, but the player he was at U21 level was ridiculous, he was basically taking the piss out of everyone. Still, we can't do anything with that, so hope he can transfer it, as he's the profile of striker we could use if he cuts it at the top. The talent is definitely there.

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton admits the club has been delighted with the loan spell of Manchester United's James Wilson.

The 20-year-old striker arrived at the Amex Stadium from Old Trafford in November and has since scored five goals in 25 Championship appearances for the Premier League promotion hopefuls.

Making the move from simply training with the United first team to being more heavily involved at Brighton has helped bring out the best in Wilson and according to Hughton, the experience will only benefit the talented forward.

"Yes, we've been delighted with him," Hughton told Tribalfootball.com.

"I think the transition from being at Manchester United and predominantly on the fringes of the first team, training with the first team most days, then to come into the Championship which is completely different.

"It's about the intensity day-to-day and certainly the games and I think he's adapted well.

"It's never easy and it's not been over-easy in his period here but he has adapted well.

"We are very confident that he would have gained great experience from his time here and he will go back to United a better player."

Wilson scored his first Seagulls goal in a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Charlton Athletic in December, and has subsequently netted in two draws with play-off counterparts Derby County (who meet Hull City), as well as providing winners against Huddersfield Town and Reading.

That's 14 points his goals have helped Brighton amass and there is no hesitation in Hughton's mind that his time on the south coast has been a success despite the fact he has started on only 11 occasions.

"It's his goals as well as his contribution," he added of the England U21 international who will remain with Albion until the end of May.

"What we have had here at times, we've had a settled two in (Tomer) Hemed and (Sam) Baldock from earlier in the season, hence the reason why James hasn't played or started as consistently as he would have liked.

"When you look at the five goals he has scored, and important goals, I think his contribution has been excellent.

"Certainly I think if he would have started more games, the fact he is a natural goalscorer, there's no doubt he is a talent and I think he would have got us more goals.

"But I think we've got that nice balance with him between starting and coming off the bench and having an impact.

"Overall, we have been delighted with his impact."

Brighton, Wilson and Hughton are preparing for Friday night's play-off semi-final first leg against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough having missed out on automatic promotion to the top flight by drawing 1-1 with second-placed Middlesbrough on the weekend.

The second leg takes place at the Amex on Monday night.

Just checked and he only has 5 in 25 for Brighton, he started brightly, anyone know what happened?

Not sure that stat is fully correct but They started playing bit shit and then he picked up ilness and injuries. When he came back they had good form going with other partnership and he only got cameos.

If I was Brighton I would just throw in the Towell.

I'll get my coat.
Are you .Rossi in disguise? Are you .Rossi in disguise? Are you .Rossi, are you .Rossi, are you .Rossi in disguise? Are you .Rossi in disguise?
Ah sure if Wilson doesn't work for Brighton, they can always throw in the Towell
