It's obvious that a player who plays well is more likely to stay in the team. Think Pogba - shit when he played so never even got to 10 for us but probably should have. If the club believe in the lad's talent it doesn't matter so much whether he struggles or not - what matters is that he continues to develop. Having said that, if you can hit the ground running it certainly doesn't hurt and suggests you've got the self confidence to potentially get to the top. It's one thing to tick off the list and very enjoyable to watch too.
Obviously it's a generalisation and doesn't apply to everyone, but statistically it is proven that a lot of young players start brightly then take a dip.

I genuinely thought this kid would break through this season, Rashford wasn't even on the radar, just shows you, you can never really tell how the big league will affect players.

He's scored 4 goals in 10 starts for them which isn't bad imo. He's been sick for a long period as well and yet managed to score some really good goals.
No United is all about popularity these days..ability and performance are not important.
Both players and others have a long way to go in their development for us to be continuously shooting down one, just because another has a better look to them. This is more a detriment to their development than tactics or management.

3 of those were against the crap teams though. Charlton Huddersfield and reading iirc. Against tougher teams like Boro and all, he generally went missing. I used to watch Brighton games to watch him and they were horrible to watch (at least till 2 months ago)
I applaud you for even trying to watch Championship games. Even the Highlights package look woeful to me. I'll have to take your word on the Goals he scored against, since I really don't know.
Not particularly, 5 in 18 for Orient in League 1 and 9 in 27 at Millwall. If Wilson had an uninterrupted spell of 27 games at Brighton I dare say he'd be scoring at a better ratio than that.

I was at the Forest-Brighton match last Monday, he came off the bench second half and played basically a free role behind the main striker in a 4-4-1-1. Had a few nice touches and almost scored a blinder with a speculative effort but faded towards the end despite Brighton scoring a last minute winner. It looked like he would have benefited from a more defined role/clearer set of instructions or from playing up top.

9 goals and 3 assists from 24 starts at Millwall, and a goal for Spurs in The Europa League. 10 goals at 18 is a good record.

I swear the people of this forum are on a crusade to block out the fact that Kane wasn't teleported down to Earth from space aged 21 as an unknown entity.
This kid was the best finisher I'd ever seen at youth level and I think he deserves a shot at United before prematurely talking about him being sold. If Rooney never got injured this season and next season people might start talking of Rashford not showing anything to break into the first team. I still hold the hope that he turns out to be the top player that most that watched him thought he would be.
He isn't getting that from mourinho though.

Really hate when people on here get so offended when anyone claims that Wilson could've replicated Rashford's form or that Rashford was lucky to get a chance (which he clearly was). People are defending a player they never heard of six weeks ago to regular watchers of Wilson who by virtue of watching youth matches, have probably also seen more of Rashford than them.
To write him off would be crazy. The Cafe always praises our in-form players excessively and slates anyone who isn't setting the world alight. We get it, Rashford is the golden boy right now. Let's see what you're saying when he has a dip in form, which will happen. There's room for both at the club long-term and for those claiming that both Wilson and Rashford have both been afforded equal opportunities, quite simply, they haven't.

Yep, this. People underestimate the role that luck plays in 'releasing' a player's potential. The right strong performance at the right time. I mean, Wilson scored a brace in his debut in the Premier League. If that had happened in January instead of in one of the last games of the season when there was nothing left to play for, who knows what sort of opportunities he might have been given and what sort of run he might have gone on.
And, as I reckon I've written about a million times on here, nothing should ever be read into Premier League-to-lower league loan spells, good or bad. They're a total lottery. Look at Kane's mediocre exploits, for just one of many many examples.
It would be mental to sell Wilson. I've watched a good 90% of any televised football he's played for us, and he's the most gifted proper centre-forward I've watched in our youth teams. Including Rossi, you Rossi fanboys.
I agree and have thought this for a while. Loan spells obviously have their benefits, regular playing time, independence etc. but they're not the be all and end all. Playing in a side that plays a completely different style from your parent club, playing with a lesser quality of players than you're perhaps used to and under a manager that has no real sense of loyalty to you as you're not part of their long-term plans are all factors that can potentially skew a loanee's performances and stats, although to be fair Wilson's stats still don't make bad reading.
Funny thing is if Wilson had only made his debut this season and scored 2 goals and then gone out on loan I doubt many would be writing him off but it seems unless things happened recently then they don't count for some people and because he didn't set the world alight as a 19 year old in very limited game time and in a team which struggled for goals some people claim they've never seen anything in him and he should be sold. Then there are people complaining that Pereira isn't getting games and should leave for the good of his career even though Wilson has shown considerably more at both underage and senior level than him and there's only a 1 month age difference between them. Wilson biggest problem has been injury and illness but plenty of players have had similar issues and grown out of them
Wilson hasn't shown more at senior level, not at United anyways. He was anonymous in pretty much every game he played last season.
He has for me anyway Pereira's only good game was in the league cup against Ipswich reserves and he's only played around 400 minutes altogether with more than half of them against lower league opposition in the league cup whereas Wilson had a very good debut, did very well when he came on and scored against Q.P.R. did well in sub appearances against Palace, Stoke and Arsenal and scored a good goal against Cambridge. Pereira did well in pre season friendlies but I don't really count them as senior appearances.
If mourinho comes, it's almost impossible for Wilson to get into our team.
I'd like to see Wilson used on the right side of a front three, coming inside on his left foot to shoot.
With Martial or Depay on the left, Rashford in the middle, and with Wilson on the left, I think United could be fearsome. These three could interchange easily and use their pace to exploit defenses.

Doesn't seem to start many games for Brighton, who have a few attacking players to choose from, but that was a big goal. I think they still need to go to Boro and win next week regardless of today's result, but better to do it off the back of a 1-1 draw with 10 men and a last minute equlaiser than a defeat, psychologically at least.

He's only 20, first 6 months of playing professional league games reguarly.
I still think he can be a player, just needs to bulk up a little and stay fit, another season on loan needed probably.
