Couldn't find a thread so starting a new one:

Apart from 2 games in China vs Dortmund and City, and vs Galatasary in Sweden, another one got added...vs Wigan.

Edit: There will be Rooney testimonial of course to cap it off on 3rd August.

"Hello is that Wigan, would you like to host a pre-season friendly at your stadium for Jose Mourinho's inaugural pre-season game? Hello?"

That's the sound of a chairman fainting on the other end.

Shit, already? I hope we give Pogba a nice long break if he gets to the finals with France.

Happy with the additional friendly, four before CS felt a bit short. Dortmund & City matches being part of that silly competition means that we could have a third one in China?

No games in the far east or USA, thankfully. Should be able to catch a lot of the action

So that is now 16th, 22nd, 25th, 30th, Aug 3rd and Charity Shield on 7th before the new season..

Good.. More United games. I'll take that any day and even more now with JM in charge.

Why did we only have 3 pre season games arranged previously? Was that LVG 's doing?
I think we only had 2, Dortmund and City. I remember the Galatasaray game being arranged quite recently. Funny how since LVG left we've been scrambling for more pre-season games.

Probably more for Mou to have a look at who he's willing to set free rather than for those coming in

Don't think we are scrambling to get more pre season games really. Any club would love to host us or play at our ground if we ask them. It's a surefire way to get tickets sold and get the game televised. Just saying.

I think United knew they’d sack him and wanted to let Mourinho have some say in the pre season plans. Like the effort of bashing LvG once more though ;)

I think Wigan might be for Jose to give chance to those who will be fringe, whose future at club is in balance and who didn't go to Euros/Copa. Mata, Herrera, Blind, Memphis, Januzaj, Lingard, Jones should feature in this one.

Perhaps scrambling was the wrong word. Just saying that now that LVG has left we're free to have as many pre-season games as necessary.

Do you think those played in Copa and Euro but knocked out early/didn't feature much on Euro/Copa will play? I'm trying to guess a possible XI.

Yup had those in mind too. Rashford should start this one. CBJ, TFM etc should also get game time.

Even if they didn't feature much, they were still away and will want some time off. We could not see those players until the game in Sweden

Team v Wigan,

Johnstone,
Varela, Jones, Bailly, Shaw,
Mkhi, Herrera, Carrick, Memphis
Mata,
Januzaj/Wilson

Think it'll be Fosu-Mensah over Varela and personally doubt Mata will feature or even be at the club by then but I'd agree with the rest of the team. Personally excited to see which youngsters will be on the bench and get a run out.

Didn't bash him. Just asking if that was his decision, as it seems like less games than usual, and he did bemoan the travelling involved in the first preseason.

Yes, it was LVG's decision. He planned the games in the pre-season, there were quite a bunch of articles in March-April about how LVG did not want to have many games in the pre-seaon tour. It was definitely decided by him (no. of games to play).

Doesn't sound like its a serious match to him based on these quotes...........talks of players who CAN BE 1st Team players in a couple of years

"The first game against Wigan is very important as I am going to have some players I don’t know very well who I am bringing into the first team. I don’t know them well but I just trust Nicky Butt [Head of Academy] and John Murtough [Head of Football Development] and the youth structure’s judgement.

"Obviously I am going to work closely with them and I’m going to have to trust them when they say we have a few players who, in a couple of years, can be first-team players. It’s important to know them and give them the opportunity to work."

Why Galatasaray in Sweden and not a Swedish team?

Perfect opportunity for both clubs to tap into a big market of theirs. United in general but especially with Zlatan and Galatasaray probably has loads of fans in Sweden, there’s about 100k with Turkish background living in Swe.

I'm reckon it will be a team of mostly reserve players but with some experienced players who had the summer off and maybe a first chance to see how the relatively inexperienced Bailly does. The likes of Varela, Love etc will surely get a run out.

-------Johnstone
Fosu Bailly Jones BoJack
------Blind Herrera
--Januzaj Pereira Depay
---------Wilson

He said that the England players will travel to China but not play. So anyone out that time or later is not playing. I'm hoping Zlatan plays at least 1 game in China.

United play in 11 days. Brilliant.

hope Tim and Rash have

hopefully Love doesn't, it's complete waste of space, rather give minutes to Bojack/Riley

I had no idea that we were playing Wigan! Eleven days until Mourinho's first match wow it's come so fast.
Not sure I like playing city in the pre season, it should be all about fitness and playing your biggest rival isn't all about fitness.

Wow only a week and a half away. I love it when pre-season starts, it feels like the season is starting in a sense.

Can't wait for this one, it's a nice surprise to see us play so soon.

Tickets won't have been sold out for the Wigan game yet, would they? want to go to this one.
