No, that's not what I've said. Clearly you haven't checked my posts history. But that's fine, because I wouldn't be even remotely bothered to check yours.

So many posters just want to read what they want to read ... usually the blindly optimistic stuff. Anything to the contrary is conveniently dismissed as "WUMMING". And in any case, if you're going to throw £100m + 200k/week wages at a club and player, the question merely becomes which CL clubs and players will refuse? Hardly any.

My contention is simply that Pogba is not remotely worth £100m, and that United's continuing, post-Fergie policy of trying to bludgeon-spend your way to league success is deeply misguided. It's fine for you to disagree. It's not fine to dismiss my perspective as mere WUMMING. But have it as you wish ...

Worth adding that a player's transfer fee is amortised over the length of his contract in relation to FFP. So let's say Pogba is signed for £100m on a five year deal, an outflow of £20m for the next five seasons would be on United's accounts. It's an important factor that people sometimes forget when assessing a club's capacity to make a huge signing.

Is has had an effect on prices, yes, but nothing like as much as to account for £100m for Pogba. £100m! Plus vast wages! For a player who will be lucky to have even a third of the impact of someone like Bale or Modric.

And of course Dier and Allie were unproven, but that still doesn't account for the huge discrepancy between £9m for the pair of them and the idea of more than 10 times that amount for Pogba. I could realistically speculate that, right now, out there somewhere, are several young CMs who will be better than Pogba and obtainable, if only they could be found, for relative peanuts. The morale of this story? Invest in scouting, not 'big name' players.

As for the rest, 90% of all media football transfer stories - whether from "well-respected" journalists and media outlets or not - are rubbish. They mainly write to attract attention - because that's the core of their job.

Bonucci worth record signing for a defender, Juventus knows that. Few million more than Mangala is not worth considering knowing Man City is desperate. We offer world record for Pogba that no one yet joined in, so a little bit different.

They still will have a formidable midfield even if Pogba leaves but the same cant be said for their defense if Bonucci leaves. Hence Bonucci is more important to them than Pogba.

For the record, I don't believe Pogba is worth £100m either from a purely footballing perspective. The premium is largely a byproduct of his global profile and huge potential, though I do think he's easily worth £60m or more in today's market.

The scouting argument is an obvious one but easier said than done. Even someone like Renato Sanches' price could rise as high as €80m and he's an 18 year old who only broke through for his club this season! It's not as though every transfer can be conducted with a view to the future either, most clubs will want some form of immediate return on their investment. That has to count for something too.

We'll have to agree to disagree about your final point. Whilst that may be true of some stories, I don't think it is in relation to the ones I was referencing.
 
Exactly. Spurs are in a different world. Just the way it is. Our goal is to be back on/near top of Europe and making huge signings and building up the infrastructure are all part of that. Spurs can't do that unless they catch lightning in a bottle.

I think we have less than 50% of signing Pogba but I'm glad we have a shot.

A few points...

1) Spurs played their best last season and it wasn't good enough. Period! In the big scheme of things you are a upper mid level team. Not trying to be rude but it is what it is.

2) the money is not the issue for me as wages for star athletes are soaring all over the world in practically every sport.

3) it's not about what happened with him and SAF... It's about the badge.... The theater of dreams.... The rich history that he rightfully belongs at the future helm of (if the stars line up).

I love the fact that it appears Jose is apparently saying he wants Pogba signed by Community Shield. Throwing that heat.

The only way I can stomach it is to convince myself he wouldn't be the player he is today if he had stayed here. He is a different person, a different player, so almost like if not a brand new signing. If he was to join and played well, no would care end of the season. But if he turns out to be poor, sporadic and not consistent, will be quite embarrassing for the Club.

Hey! Leave our great Dutch hope out of this! Janssen is going to be our next great striker after van Nistelooij, Kluivert, Bergkamp and van Basten.... Spurs are paying 15 mil euros pfor him after he played 1 year at the highest level and in which he basically scored most of his goals in the second part of the season...

Pogba might be overpriced but so i Janssen in my opinion... i dont even think Janssen is that great while Pogba can be awesome at times.

For that money, I expect peak Ronaldo, Bale or Neymar so wouldn't be too gutted if he joins Madrid for that sum.

I am worried the price tag will get to him and he'll join and not reproduce his form at Juventus, let alone become one of the best in the world (to justify the price tag)

That said, it's not my money and hopefully this won't affect our future spending. Good luck to him if he joins!

I think Ronaldo could actually play the #9 role well if he put his mind to it, but it would need for him to be certain about it before you buy Hazard, as he can only really provide his best form from that LW position. I think Chelsea might be up to sell though as it's hard to see him fitting in Conte's system.

Neymar's release clause is to be expected to be around 250m Euros.

Bale, I am not so sure. As for Ronaldo, we already brought in Zlatan. Despite all of this, Pogba and these names that you have thrown in, plays in diff position. We are in dire need of a midfield general. Not a winger or a proven goalscorer. These two are already been brought by Mourinho in the form of Zlatan and Mikhtaryan.

If you suggested for either of these three names; Modric, Kroos or Veratti then it's fine. That being said, clubs that owns them doesn't want to sell. Especially, PSG. Money is not a question for them.

It's not about his worth on the field only. The 100M pound bid includes what he is worth including for marketing and future play. You seem to think the club will just offer random amounts of money to sign players without having numerous formulas for estimating a player's worth to a club. Of course he isn't worth 100M for his current skill, the club is not buying him solely for that. They want to capitalize on the player's fanbase and star attitude that would allow the club to make the money. The club will not make offers that do not benefit the club financially. Hell, that's exactly what fans criticized the Glazers for trying to do in the first place, to only try to make money. Now when they open their checkbook people complain that they're overpaying for players. It's the day and age, fecking Troy Deeney got denied a 30M pound bid. Troy fecking Deeney. Paul Pogba is the most promising and one of the best midfielders in the world currently and his marketability is exponential. I don't see why any fans of clubs complain about how much/little players cost unless they themselves have the background and information required to do financial analysis on that player.

For those who are saying "100m isn't worth it" listen to this.

As soon as Pogba goes to Madrid the buyout clause will be 200M+

Just like Neymars buyout and Messis and so on, even Kroos, if United appointed an actual decent manager after Moyes Kroos could have come to United for 40-50M at the very most he had one year left on his contract.

The time to buy Pogba is now or never, if it takes 100M its worth it. Please see the bigger picture.

I'm basing my opinion on his skill level and not his marketability. That's up to smarter guys than myself to do all that. Of course I see the appeal of how much revenue he can bring in, but does he have the same charisma as Ronaldo or even Beckham? Theres a lot of ifs around the whole deal and of course I would love him to sign for us and become a great player. Maybe its the tactics hes been asked to play for France but I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary from him this tournament, gave away a clumsy penalty against Ireland and should have given away another one against Germany, played too many sidewards passes as well for my liking. But again it could be the tactics hes been asked to play to, for £100m he should stand out a lot more in a midfield with Sissoko (who looks good)
 
Why do opposition fans care so much what we were spend on the players?

It's not like we are Leeds United throwing money around without a plan. We actually have a former investment banker in charge of us. Having worked in a bank myself,you simply don't make this kind of big investments without a lot of feasibility studies.

This same bunch was cheering on as Madrid signed Ronaldo for 80 mil which has played a huge part in this football inflation we are now. They were mocking us for overspending on Martial. Look how that turned out.
 
Lovely to watch Glaston trying to convince himself that us spending anything will be our downfall, and it's so sweet to see how much he cares about our finances. Looking at his insight into our finances, maybe he should be councelling our board and financial department, as he might warn them that spending more on a player than his entire club is worth will destroy our club.

I disagree with the bolded bit. You don't become a truly great team without buying star players. Look at Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern or some of the great United teams under Fergie. These teams all have/had star players that were bought for big money. You refer to the Alli's and Diers of this world but that situation is incomparable. You can't just look at the expected impact on the pitch and compare that directly to the difference in price. That's not how the transfer market operates. Pogba is a key player in a side that has won 4 Serie A titles and reached the Champions League final. You have to pay massively over the odds for such a player, that has always been the case.

What have the "Alli's" and "Dier's" of this world achieved? A 3rd place finish in the league? A place in an England team that could not beat Iceland?

Yes, they are good players but comparing them to a guy who has won multiple league and cup titles. Won titles in his international youth teams. Winning personal accolades. Reaching international finals (may even win it). Reaching the CL final.

Gladston even said Alli has more drive and passion, or whatever he said, than Pogba. You don't win the things Pogba has by not having the right attitude. You are rather deluded on this matter.
