What's him being Canadian have to do with this?

He makes rap music. He makes dancehall music. He makes pop music. He makes trap music. Versace? That's trap. Tony Montana with Future? That's trap. He made an entire Mixtape with Future that was trap. He works with the biggest trap producer called MetroBoomin.

And, yes, he is breaking records. His album has been #1 for longer than any previous rapper. He's about to break Michael Jackson's Thriller record for longest number onw with the song 'One Dance', and he's just released his 6th Platinum project in a row.
What has this got to do with Pogba?

Yeah I agree with you. I was being a bit of a WUM tbh but there is defintley a place for buying top tier, proven talent. Not every summer, but if there is one player that will massively improve your squad and very few alternatives, he is worth it. I feel that Pogba fits into this criteria. Herrera/Basti/Carrick-Schneiderlin-Pogba has almost everything you could ask for from a 3-man midfield, energy, positional/defensive awareness, creativity. Without Basti/Carrick it is lacking in experience a bit, but Pogba now has 4 years at the very highest level and Schneiderlin is also experienced enough. There simply isn't a single player out there except MAYBE verrati who will fit so seamlessly into our midfield, and buying two 50m midfielders isn't an option either imo because at 5 new first team players you start unbalancing the squad. IMO anyway

Agreed :)

Some thoughts on whether £100m for Pogba is good value:

we have been saying it though. it's a running joke but it's real, if Watford can afford to say no to 30 million for Troy Deeney. Pogba @ 100 is almost more than worth it. People say neymar alone is worth that... nope, he's Probably worth 2 times that. Look at how we have been marketing Rooney for God's sake, imagine what we could do with Pogba and Zlatan. Eds already counting the money

What's the consensus regarding Raiola's comments? Do we think he'll actually stay at Juventus or it's just a tool (similar to when we were linked with Zlatan) to get us to cough up more for him?

I personally think that hes preparing ground for when Pogba makes the transfer. Gotta appease the Juventus fans. Their whole narrative this transfer has been that Juve is selling only because we are throwing ridiculous money at him but they would prefer to keep him. His comments follow that narrative nicely.

There has been too much reporting by too many reputable people for this to not be true. I hope :nervous:

I think mbb8 maybe making sense. That's why United are pushing so hard for this deal.

The examples I was thinking of from last season were the Schmidfielders. I dont recall any actual "evidence" either of them were coming before they came? It was just like the Pogba saga, I think? A lot of smoke, leaving you wondering whether there was a fire or someone had just burnt a piece of toast?

I cite those as most of the others seemed to happen pretty quickly, but those two dragged on a bit as a recall...

Can't remember much about what happened with Schweinsteiger to be fair. That may have come a bit out of the blue. With Schneiderlin there were definitely confirmed bids and the like floating around before hand, then nothing happened for a while and then we pushed it through just before the pre-season tour.

what you have with Pogba is "reliable" sources claiming we've agreed personal terms but are yet to make a bid, and "reliable" sources claiming we're going to pay this amount or that amount...If they were so reliable they the information wouldn't be contradicting itself.

Not only that, but when the "reliable" source is a journo, it means they're either completely making it up, going on gossip, or at best they know what Pogba's agent wants them to know, and the most likely reason for that would be if he wanted to get his client more money/a new contract. Otherwise there'd be no reason or logic in bothering telling any journo anything. So it's really massively pointless getting excited when the only sources are journos and twitter.

are you seriously telling me Adele is more popular with the youth of America?

That was my premise. That the youth culture has shifted towards the hip-hop scene. How many rock-n-roll bands are popping? The biggest artist are mostly int he hip-hop version of Pop: Beyonce, Rihanna, Drake.

and for all those wondering why this is an issue. It's not. I was making the argument that Pogba is a marketing asset to any team, since he embracing current pop-culture. He participates in the viral world, which relies heavily on hip-hop for references.

What other footballer has this much swag? Dude oozes cool.

We're talking about football mate.

no, we are talking about spending a 120-150 million euros.

I feel far more comfortable knowing we are getting a player that is going to be a financial asset off the pitch to help recoup some of that money. We don't have an endless reservoir of cash, despite what some believe. We're rich, but we're not corrupt government funding rich.

What is your point ?

Please kill me.

You lot must've missed mbb8 talking about side chicks and main chicks in this thread the other day. This doesn't surprise me.

Things have improved considerably since I learnt about the ignore function a few days ago. Can still see all the replies though unfortunately.
I see the replies but have no idea of the context. it's brilliant. Still have no idea how he's not thread banned, he probably is in top 20 of posts in here alone

How is this saga any different from all the other sagas from recent years? Reminds me a lot of the Ramos one last year. Raiola angling for some more money until Pogbas eventual move to Barca or Madrid in a few years. There is just a lot of speculation and 'Itk' s', but nothing concrete. The only thing concrete is that Raiola and Pogba are open to move and have agreed personal terms, but Juve doesn't seem eager to sell nor does Pogba seem like he'd push for a move. Both of which would have to happen in order for this move to happen. The eventual meltdown here when it doesn't happen will at least be entertaining to read. :)

I think the best way to decide if it's a good signing or not is to think of what our rival fans would rather see us do.
a. Sign Pogba for £110m or
b. Don't sign him and save the money.

I'm pretty sure they would all prefer us to do option b, so we should do option a.

Right, for feck sake, keep this on topic. Any more stupid shit about music or swag and I'm gonna start threadbanning people.

I resent being told that I'm 'living in the 90s' and that I'm out of touch; I happen to know a lot about Sir Francis Drake.
