Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

If we do re-sign him I hope all of ye are proved right and I'm proved wrong. Just seems to me he isn't all that bothered about playing for United. If he was he wouldn't have left in the first place. After all the only players ahead of him in the pecking order were a 35 year old asthmatic and a Brazillian fullback. If he was as great as you were all making out he would have been first choice within 12 months. Seems like a mercenary Cnut to me. As I say I hope I'm proved wrong.
Agree with your concern to some extend.

That year we were closely contesting with City for the title and Sir Alex opted for experience when players were unavailable. Mind you, Pogba wasn't exactly lightening up the reserves at the time, more of a case of uninterested as he thought he was ready for the first team. SAF, as I read here at the time, didn't take it too kindly and wanted him to show more professionalism. Pogba didn't stand out in his first team games either, granted he was only 18-19 and the games were few and far between.

Regardless, I am confident he would have been promoted permanently the following season. In the end, he was impatient but in hindsight made the right career choice. I am not sure he would have developed at such rate if he had stayed with us considering our last three seasons and the state of our midfield that still persists.

I believe the chances of him staying here for majority of his prime is higher now than if he had never left 4 years ago.

Me? I'm honestly not. If you read the earlier part of the thread I'm on record months ago saying the exact same thing. My opinion on Pogba hasn't changed and won't until I'm proved wrong.
You mustn't like Vidal either then

I know they are completely different players. I've already said I would prefer a more combative style player than Pogba. I was asked who my alternative to Pogba is and that's my answer, a completely different style midfielder. I really don't like Pogba.
So let me get this right. You'd want Kante or Matuidi in our MF next season along side the dross that is already there. Not one creative player in our MF at the moment, not one. Yet you want someone more combative?

Why have prices suddenly jumped up to a ridiculous level?, 94mil for Higuan, 50mil for stones, 75mil for Lakuka, 120mil for Pogba. Christ how much would Griezman go for, £200mil?, Ronaldo and Messi?.
Its crazy at the minute and i don't know whats suddenly happened to cause this. Has every league had a new bumber tv rights deal or something?

Griezmann cant go for £200m since his release clause is around £80m.:D

So after Pogba and Raiola asked SAF for guaranteed games per season SAF said "I don't even give Rio, Vidic, Scholes guaranteed game time, so I won't for a youth player" along those lines.

Which is a part of the story not often mentioned. Essentially, Fergie refused to be dictated to by a kid and his agent. Which is exactly what you'd expect from Fergie. You could argue that we should have been smarter about Pogba's contract - leaving us with more leverage, if you will, but at the end of the day it was a matter of principle.

Pogba was a top talent, nobody will deny that. But top talents don't always turn into to top players. He was also someone who - clearly - had a high opinion of himself. He thought hanging around, applying himself, waiting for his chance - and so forth - was beneath him. Fair enough - that's his opinion, and he is talented, so perhaps he's right to make a move. That doesn't mean Alex Ferguson is wrong not to bend over for him - and his agent. An agent who by all accounts had been in contact with Juventus for a good while - and who had a vested interest in making the move happen (if not now, then next year - or, if Pogba took big enough steps, not Juve, but someone bigger and richer).

Again, we could have timed it better - making sure he had a longer contract. But Pogba's attitude and the presence of his agent (not least), wasn't something Fergie was prepared to "get over" in order to make sure he stayed on our books. I don't blame him for that at all. The muppets on here don't give a feck about principles, of course - they just see what they want to see, and completely ignore the part Raiola played (which was probably the biggest red flag for Fergie).

Three things mainly:
1. Super-rich owners
2. Premier League TV money
3. Emergence of China

The new prem tv deal has pushed them all up. Because of how much prem teams are spending its had a knock on effect with every other league except perhaps Germany. Neymar would literally go for 150 maybe 200 if he became available.

Yep. A bit more steel. We have creativity going forward. Yes of course we need to improve but if we stop passing the ball sideways like we did under Van Gaal and get our midfielders playing with greater tempo I think we have plenty of creativity. Who would your alternative to Pogba be?

Napoli are notorious for their incredible prices, Cavani went for 65m€ in 2013.

Just read the threadmark about Allegri. So is this on or off? Did the meltdown already start?

Late last night Mike Keegan posted a quote from Allegri confirming Juve were negotiating with United for Pogba. Hash tweeted a transcript of an interview from Allegri (the one quoted in the threadmark) that didnt say anything about negotiations "proving" that Keegan was making it up, except the interview Hash posted was a different one from yesterday morning so didnt prove jack shit.

Currenty, it seems more on by the second with Higuain seemingly going to Juve for 98m Euros now.

Great post. I think you understand the 'narrative' very well!

cheers. Higuain for 98m to Juve just can´t be. I´ll lose any remaining faith in humanity, if this happens.

50% of Juventuz having a meltdown and the other 50% in denial. Looking forward to a full meltdown when he leaves.

With that being said, they are probably equally looking forward to our meltdown if he goes to Madrid.
At least the 50% are having the time of their lives. They are signing the second most expensive player as well as keeping their prized asset, for a few more days.

Who are those creative players in a MF three that you speak of? There are no alternatives to Pogba, that's the thing. There is no other player around that has his all round attributes. You watched him play at the Euro's, out of position, in a team that was managed by a spoof of a manager in Deschamps. I think you need to see him play his natural position for 90 minutes. And seriously, his hair pisses you off? Grow up man :)

Lol. His hair does piss me off.

i love how some on /r/soccer are acting like this has little impact on pogba.

JUVE JUST TIED RONALDO's TRANSFER FEE!! Higuain is now going to be tied 2nd for largest transfer in world football.

OF COURSE this is pogba related :lol:

One simple question to this Pogba and his agent wanting more money to stay - then why did Fergie agree to the demands of Rooney and his agent?

Rooney was an established proven player at the top of his game at the time. Losing him to those bluenosed twats after their Tevez poaching would have been unthinkable. Remember. Fergie saw off Mancini in the end.

If he didn't want to play for United he wouldn't have signed for us at 15.

He left for juve because he wanted to play rather than see everyone being played ahead of him. It was a career choice which turned out to be the right choice. Nothing mercenary about that. Mercenaries would be guys who leave first team football to sit on the bench of bigger teams for higher wages. Guys like Rodwell, Patrick Roberts and all. Clearly it's the opposite here.

Talk about the best way to waste the Pogba money

He's never been one of the very top strikers, and he's 29. Literally paying 2.5x what he's worth.

He just mishandled the situation that time. Probably trying to show Pogba who was boss by not giving into his demands to play first team football which in the long term was probably designed to further motivate him into showing he was ready. It was a man-management tactic that had worked for Fergie many times in the past but unfortunately on this occasion it backfired.
Perfectly explained.
