David Moyes | West Ham in talks with him for managerial job

Will put some money on them getting relegated. He isn't a good and is a outdated manager, who was never succesful outside his comfort zone at Everton. Brought Sociedad near relegation and Sunderland is worse in relation to the other teams in the PL.

I actually think he is fine when managing clubs who are aiming to make mid-table.
Obviously (as has been proved), he isn't cut out to take a club right to the top, but mid-table is his level.

Have wanted Sunderland to go down ever since you know what, but I wish Moyes well.

Whenever I see the name David Moyes I want to throw up. A complete nightmare. Poor Sunderland supporters. Relegation or a sacked before Christmas. Take a pick...

Oh do be quiet. A bad spell with us doesn't make him a bad manager. He done well with Everton so hope he does well with Sunderland.

Mostly agreed. Moyes is well-suited for a club like Sunderland, but the position they're in is going to ask a hell of a lot of him. It's going to take him at his best to avoid relegation and work up the table in the coming seasons. I think he'll do it, but it's not going to be pretty. He won't repeat his Everton success there. He's slipped and the league has gotten tougher down to the bottom.

I thought Sunderland were doomed to relegation when Big Sam took the England job. Moyes may keep them up. He won't do as well as Alladyce did, but he'll steady them gradually if he can avoid the drop this season.

I don't think he'll have them as tough and solid as Everton. Moyes was at his best there, and his work since doesn't show unalienable ability. I see narrowly avoiding relegation this season and 15th to 10th place over the next several years being about the best he'll muster.

Mid-table is getting a fair bit harder to come by. The top third is improving have very good managers. Points won't be taken easily off them by a Moyes team. Most of the bottom half teams are in far better shape. Sunderland is a fairly good sized club, but their foundations are pretty well weakened by the years of rot and managerial turn over. Moyes is going to be competing against a lot of better squads. They can use the Premier League TV money to add attacking talent usually not available at that level while he has to repair rot with a quickly aging squad.

Alladyce gave Sunderland a stay of execution for the way it's been run for years; the problems are still very much there. I don't see Moyes doing a whole lot in the first few years. After that, I see him getting Sunderland somewhat comfortably away from relegation.

Edit: I hate my phone. Auto-correct is auto-troll. PoS.

Given the standard in the Premier League right now, I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss outdated British management as a positive in this case. Moyes could in time manage to achieve a standard similar to Pulis, which will keep Sunderland safe and happy until they feel they are secure enough to do better, like happened with Pulis and Stoke.

Of course I'd prefer Sunderland to go down simply because I've long grown tired of their late escapes from certain relegation, but I have no actual bad will towards them as a club. Moyes changes nothing in that regard.

His return won't improve the quality of the league, but I doubt Sunderland give a feck about that. He should be able to make them better than three other clubs this season, which is all they aim for.

Hated Sunderland since they did the Poznan against us in 2012, to celebrate losing just cos we didn't win the league. Hope they go down and we can beat them horribly, so they go down on goal difference. Dislike Moyes and Sunderland.

Jesus 4 year contract!! Another big pay day for Moysie in the next year or two then.

Hope he gets relegated (doubt he will though), last chance for him this job if he gets sacked he'll finally be on the managerial scrapheap along with Curbishley, Graham, Roeder, O'Leary etc.

Poor bastards don't know what they're in for next season. Before long they'll be sick of the sight of the miserable fecker.

Can you imagine the reaction to - we need to make it difficult for Newcastle (if they play each other):lol::eek:

David Moyes: ''We will aspire to get to Middlesbrough's level.''

Do Sunderland have the Scouting budget like we did which allowed him to attend several matches across Europe. He probably thought we hired him as a Scout to discover hidden gems like Kroos and Fabregas!

Kinda make or break for him. Good chance to restore the reputation he had at Everton and restore Sunderland as a mid-table club, but also the potential to destroy any credibility he's got left.

Part of his success at Everton was probably down to the familiarity; the fact he'd been there for a while, found a moderately successful formula, and was probably content in the job. His confidence will have been destroyed completely since then and takes a lot to get that back.

He's got the potential to do alright (and I kinda hope he does), but like I said above, there's also an argument to be had that we were overrating him as an overall manager at Everton in that he perhaps found a formula which suited him, from the regular players like Cahill who stuck around etc. Time for him to show he's still a decent manager.

More like weekends away at the expense of the club than scouting trips.

A cnut of manager in a cnut club. Hope they crash and burn. Or at least, get relegated.

Glad to see the fella back in the PL. He failed bigtime at utd but I think he will do a good job at Sunderland if hes given a proper chance.

Its time for him to put his doubters to rest and show what he did with Everton wasn't a fluke.

Seems like a decent genuine guy too. Doesnt deserve the flak he gets from you lot.
Make it hard for Newcastle, told his 2 captains to emulate Jagelska Liverpool is favorite (coming to Old Traffors), SAF would struggle with his team, aspired to City level are now considered genuine, decent thing to say for United manager? :wenger:

If doing good job = survive relegation then sure, some achievement it is.

Deserves every bit of it the smug prick. Tried to throw everyone under the bus to deflect blame from himself, disrespected the players, the fans and even Ferguson. The only man to ever give him a chance at a top club.

It was gently pointed out that his team were 21 points worse off than at this stage last season. "Well, I was at Everton so I wasn't 21 points worse off," he replied. "I was at Everton."

This quote sums up his mentality. Genuine decent guy my arse.

Yeah he's a tool. He seemed out of his depth in pre season. Seemed overawed by the size of the club.

I hope that in true Sunderland fashion they just about survive relegation every year keeping Moyes in the job for eternity. Would be far worse than relegation.

I think he will do a decent job there and I assume he has been told that funds are available. Still can't believe he managed our club, though. feck me.

It's funny reading Everton fans on the Guardian saying he was harshly treated at Utd and they always rated him.

The fecking hypocrites, he was treated like absolute shit on his return to Goodison with us.

Aye. I can't stand Moyes. I am glad that he is back at his level after the whole 'I want Champions League, I'm proud of my Champions League record with United' after he was sacked by United for sinking the club!

I still hope they get relegated. I'm completely indifferent to him but I see no benefit of having Sunderland in the PL. Shit club.

Hope they get relegated. Can't stand the pricks. Ever since they celebrated Aguero's goal against QPR.
