Pre-season friendly Manchester City - Manchester United | Match cancelled

Probably for the best that it's been called off in case of injuries or whatever but we should probably arrange another couple of friendlies so we're not undercooked for the start of the season. It's only the Everton and Leicester games now, isn't it?

I don't think you can criticise the weather on the club though, just one of those things.

He didn't arrange this, so hardly his fault. This is down to the club. They wanted to have a jaunt to China.

I'm not criticising, just saying not a great start for Jose era as preseason is considered very important for preparation.

Galatasaray in Sweden next Saturday

We should really just stick to the US from now on.
Disagree on that. Asia is a goldmine. Just wish they'd go to different countries like Singapore etc rather than the usual suspects like China. Been a lifetime since they came here.

Feel sorry for the 70k fans though.

It's stupid. I understand utd is a business, but the longer we spend being mediocre the less the brand is worth, and stupid Far East tours are not helping the team.
This tour help our business side of club, Asia is big Market.
Its also show our fan following in world base, which means more sponsors and more sponsors means more money to spend.
There is nothing wrong with this tour unless you do your preparation wrong.

Kinda glad we don't play city, not a big fan of facing rivals, let Pep get his first battering against Utd at old Trafford.

I would not call the Leicester game a friendly. :nono:

Poor preparation by the club, Woodward seeing the dollar signs during the year as usual. Not considering pitches, weather, travel and fitness of the player for the start of the season. Especially with the euros and Copa America was on. We can't get of to a slow start because of bad preparation. It's ridiculous when you think about, going all that way to only play 2 games(or 1 now).

To be honest, it looks as though the tour has been a bit of an organisational disaster for both clubs, we are better off out of it and back home. I'm sure the PR/commercial people at United will be re-assessing this, but questions should be asked.

I agree, this is totally counter-productive to the real business - getting the team ready for the start of the season and targeting trophies which ultimately create bigger business.

I was thinking more from a preperation perspective, business-wise I'm with you.

3 more matches (including community shield) to prepare. The squad which was in China and the XI which would played today will differ significantly to the strongest XI for first league game. Plus risk of players getting injured avoided. So, not the best thing to have a pre-season game cancelled but given the conditions and situation it is preferable.
If there was a risk to players then of course it's the right decision, I was just thinking it was due to a wet pitch etc.

Do we have a game before Rooney's testimonial? I thought there was only that and the Community Shield before the season started.

Could there be another game added on now? Maybe another game back in England against a lower league side? I'm assuming that the squad will now leave China earlier than scheduled and will therefore have more time in England before Sweden.

Also, Woodward had to travel all the way to China only to be greeted with a cancelled game and bad weather  Should've just stayed in England.

So how do you propose to satisfy the Asian crowds and fans then? Bloody hypocritical to be on top of the world when bidding for Pogba for 100 million GBP and patting yourself on the back for being one of the richest clubs in the world and then questioning the tour to Asia where majority of the fans reside because one match got canned.

We have Galatasaray in Sweden before.

All that travelling for very little. Complete nightmare. Apart from my complete lack of talent, I could never have been a pro footballer with all the travelling they have to do pre-season. Hope they get back and start the season injury free.

Glad it is off, conditions are not good for football out there.
This pre-season has been a bit of a joke , all that way for 3 games, well 2 now.

1 game. The Galatasaray game isn't in China. It's back in Europe. And it's not until Saturday. A round trip to China to have a bare bones team walloped by Dortmund.

Not a good start.

I agree, after major tournaments like EUROS's and WC's and Copa, they should scrap pre- season tours or do one in Europe, too much pressure on the players.

glorified friendly is all the CS has ever been.
Good day for the fans at Wembley in the sun ( hopefully) but thats about it, who ever counts it has a trophy needs to give their heads a wobble.

I'd say it's somewhere inbetween. The players definitely seem more pumped up than they do during the "official" friendlies.

At least it also affects City too. And gives them one less match aswel. We should go to Sweden early and play Malmo or something

That is the setback of being one of the wealthiest clubs in the world. The whole tour being an obligation to sponsors and so on. But it is a good thing that at least the players get to bond together especially the younger lads. And I do hope Rooney did some house hunting while he is there :)

Think the players much prefer going to the US as they can go for a walk or can do a bit of shopping without too much hassle, which helps fill their free time. In China everything is organised by the club otherwise they get mobbed.

Bluemoon:

P1 : If we beat Dortmund do we win the tournament, or will there be a final to play?

P2 in reply to P1: They'll find some way of awarding the 'trophy' to the rags... perhaps award them a 10-0 win v us and make sure we beat Dortmund 1-0 :)

Another Poster: 5 goals for Rashford, as per the new Sky advert maybe??

P3: Would be nice if we could play a simple exhibition game against one of the Chinese teams, It would be a subtle way of passing a message to the football world that the other team chickened out and not us.

P4: I'd rather not play against a team of cloggers on a shit pitch but the organisers need a good kicking. If we have to play over there do it as a warm down in May not in the wet season. There'll be no shortage of clubs in the UK that would love to play us even at short notice, hopefully we can sort another match out somewhere.

P5 reply to P4: Darlington FC fighting their way back need some money.........

P4 replying back: But could they cope with x,000 blues turning up?

We have been there at this time of year before and it has been fine. Tours are good for bonding and making money. Remember, to Woodward and the owners we are no longer a football club, but a business.

Take away the cloggers part off P4 and the rest is pretty much spot on, the rest is just typical Bluemoon bullshit, christ that site must be full of idiot 12 year olds.
