Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

A lot of people get very angry in here based one complete assumptions

Anyway, if Marotta mentioned us by name, and only us, I'd call that a reason to be optimistic.

145m would be ridiculous. If Juve gas a contract with Raiola can we not sue them and get the money back? Would be madness to just accept it and pay the money. Especially after thex signed Higuain they probably need our money and can't say no.

You just gotta love the investigative nature of new age muppets. I bet they enjoy this more than watching football.

Well, some of our games last season were sleep inducing. Borefests. We were known to be the most boring team in the league.
So, for some, this transfer saga may be more interesting than the football, itself.

I don't see how we would have legal grounds to sue Juventus over paying Raiola's fee. That's between the agent and the selling club as stipulated in the contract.

Out of interest, to all the people saying we could get anyone but Ronaldo, Messi or Neymar for £120m, who else would you even consider spending that sort of money on that even if you did offer, the club would accept and the player could be tempted to come here?
  • Lewandowski
  • Thomas Muller
  • Tony Kroos + Isco
  • The complete Arsenal midfield
  • Nani

Dude, suing people is not easy. Most of the time it is tedious and the only winners are the lawyers.
Court action should be used only as the very last resort and don't ever assume you will win.
Lawyers are usually the winners as far as the courts are concerned.

So much of the blame over the agent fee seems to be falling on United for not paying it and/or Raiola for wanting it. But it's Juve are contracted to pay the 20% to Raiola, so they keep trying to up the required fee to cover it. Some papers keep saying that United has to work out the fee with Raiola, but if that were the case then Raiola wouldn't be reportedly meeting with Juve today. It really seems that Juve has been jerking us around, upping the fees every time we come close to agreeing. If we put together the various reports of the last week or so.....

United offer 100m Euros. Juve say it needs to be 120m.
United then offer 110m Euros + 10m bonuses. Juve says it needs to be 120m without bonuses.
United finally give in and offer 120m. Juve says, "Well, you agreed to that rather easily, so, umm, what we meant was 120m net to us after agent fees, so it's really 145m that you need pay."

United would seem to be rightly angered, and after getting yanked around like this, I wouldn't blame United for telling them to get lost. And maybe that is what it might take to conclude the deal one way or another. United may need to be truly willing to walk away in order to force Juve to decide if they can leave all that money on the table. If you're not willing to walk away from a deal, and the other side knows this, then you're going to get screwed on the price.

I like your post and the way you think. U clearly know your stuff.

I said the same thing a couple of days ago that the contract/agreement between Raiola/Pogba and Juventus isn't Uniteds problem. Woody shouldn't even touch that subject and frankly if Marotta tries to bring this problem into the negotiations we should just tell him that's not our biz. (a smile and a walk to the coffe table will do ;-)

The negotiation strategy that Juve is using is well known, pushing the deal sideways by demanding small adjustments for every step. A experienced negotiater will off course ignore such proposals by sticking to the original offer whenever the subject is on the table. By standing your ground you push the other part to find other solutions.

Off course without knowing I think that Woodward has giving Marotta a final all inclusive offer, let's say €125m. With Higuains fee in mind it's also fair to think that United will pay Juve in two installments, one up front and the second next year.

Should I guess then I think that Marotta tries to lowball Raiola (and in the end United) by asking him (and Pogba) to lower their demands in order to finalize the deal. Raiola then, off course, asking Woodward for help by offering more. Hopefully then our CEO tells Raiola that's this isn't our problem, with all due respect. Then the old arch enemies (Zlatan2Inter) Marotta and Raiola will drink and arm wrestle until they both fall asleep. (Next morning they are buddies again)

The positive news is that Juve bought Higuain. Whatever people say this deal is connected to the transfer of Pogba. Those who think or say differently probably hasn't a single clue about liquidity and cash flows.

In the end I think all parties will do their parts. To much money, prestige and goodwill (or badwill) involved. IMVHO this deal is finalized many many days ago, only show boating and political statements left.

Juve will off course then tell the old lady and the whole world they got a record fee. I fully expect them to exaggerate every single number who's available. Mino Raiola will smile and doing moonwalk all the way to the bank and Woody, my favorite all time Ed, will dance the Hula Hula song all night long. (Lionel Richie extended version)

What was the Instagram post? This thread moves so bloody fast!
I think the one where he said we say it all by saying nothing. Other than that there hasn't been any big news or rumours.. madrid speculation came ony from AS over the weekend and nobody carried the story

It may be the case that Juventus want us to up the offer for Pogba to enable them to cover Raiola's fee while still being left with what they think Pogba is worth, perhaps?

At the end of the day they're entitled to ask for whatever sum of money they like for a player that's under contract to them.

Okay, lets say we pull out.
Who else is there who is gettable, who can make an impact, for £100M?
Would Madrid sell Bale? Would Bale want to join?
What about Muller - would that happen?

The problem is that we want to win trophies. We have the money, but we need to have the right players to get the job done. At present, we have players like Carrick and Bastian who are finishing their careers, in midfield. Morgan, who last season was invisible. Then we have wingers like Memphis and Lingard. That's our midfield and its pretty bad.
Griezmann? Mahrez seems available for less than that.
I'm not advocating not signing him. I'm just saying that if it falls through now it wont be an embarrassment. They play hardball over the agents fee we tell them where to go. It happens.
If we go on until deadline day and end up buying 'Fellaini for more than his buyout clause again' then that would be Embarrassing.

not unless you are Wenger ... poor sod couldnt sign an autograph right now

I am suspicious of Wenger. I think he has no intention of making any big signings.
To appease the fans, he makes statements that "we are interested in player x. We were interested in player y".
but notice, he signs very few expensive players. This is more down to budgets.

Only a few days ago, Arsenal were interested in Higuain.
And Vardy.
And right now Mahrez.

I genuinely believe that he has no interest in signing any big money players.

Di Marzio just posted an update. Waiting for the English version.
A meeting was held between Marotta and Raiola earlier today. The topic of the meeting was to finalize the last details for a conclusion to be found. We now wait/expect to find out the outcome of this meeting.

You'd think sense would dictate that if there's agreement between all the clubs and the player, the agent will be willing to take a cut to get it done as it's a case of being paid "x" million less than £20m vs. £0...

Wouldn't be overly concerned if we don't sign him for mental cash and we get Matuidi for slightly less mental money.

** repeat **

All based on the assumption that the following information is correct.

1/ Raiola + Juventus have a contract stating that Juventus have obligation to pay a 20% fee of any future transfer of Pogba.
2/ After preliminary agreement on fee between Man Utd and Juve, Juve then insist Man Utd pay agents fee

This is how it should be done.

1/ Man Utd in coordination with Raiola should have a legal binding document between themselves stating that both parties are in acknowledgement that Juve are essentially blackmailing Man Utd by attempting to invalidate the contract between Raiola and Juve re 20% fee.
2/ Man Utd should pay the agreed fee to Juventus and Raiola's 20% fee
3/ Use the legally binding document made between Man Utd + Raiola to sue the feck out of Juventus.
4/ Make sure that the legal case is dragged out in the public domain using ALL means neccessary to make it clear what type of underhanded club Juventus are and in the process destroying all notion of the 'romance' that the name Juventus once had.
5/ After winning the legal case against Juventus make it clear that Man Utd stand for freedom, honesty and integrity

And finally

Feck Juventus

** EDIT **
Oh and please have pity on a fellow n00b muppet, redcafe member and help me to the realms of manhood
I imagine it's much more straightforward than that. Juve, at the time, agreed with Raiola that he'd be entitled to 20% of the fee on sale. What the fee demanded for Pogba would be doesn't appear to have been specified. That's the key. I presume they're now saying that they'll pay that fee, but only if United pay them a sum of approx. €120m + the agent's fee. Or United can pay his fee/negotiate a different fee with him, I doubt they care, really. It's all the same. Basically they want to make a clear €120m regardless of how/by whom Raiola is paid. If United agree to pay the €145m or whatever it is then I'd imagine Juve will happily write a cheque.

Why don't we give raiola a seat on the board in place of £20mil ?? He's got some good players in his stable

And a massive kick in his balls the scumbag

It's time for Pogba to act. If he wants the move, it's about time he submits a transfer requests and starts throwing a tantrum.

"looking nervous" "looking frustrated", are you journalists or body language experts? Maybe he was annoyed you were stalking him

If Raiola is frustrated that's good. Clearly wants his money and will do anything to get it so he will try to force the deal.

switch targets? if Woodward doesn't pull this off it will haunt him for the rest of his career, he will never live it down from a PR p.o.v

Not only is the narrative that United want Pogba, it's that Mourinho is desperate to get him and United doing everything possible to make it the happen.
No the narrative is that we have 3 targets and we need to get 1 of them.

After those tweets I'm starting to think we aren't gonna get him. Haven't felt that way before.
