He should help us going forward. He's probably not going to help us control midfield. I could be wrong though. It's not me spending the money on him. If we're relying on Schneiderlin picking passes for us and controlling midfield then I predict we'll be disappointed.

This is why I keep preaching we lack a midfielder who can dictate tempo.

Carrick is getting up in age and can't be relied on consistently. We don't have midfielders of that ilk at all.

If preseason was any indication of anything Van Gaal would have had a top 3 finish each of the last 2 years.

Pogba should help us control MF simply because he is a better midfielder than all our midfielders currently. He should help in ball retention as well as increasing the tempo of our play from midfield instead of that pondering wide balls from Rooney every frickin time.

Well thank god Pogba is coming home. Worried about our DM though.

It has nothing to do with being 2-1 down, it is just a horrible performance from the team. Misplacing passes, not putting pressure on the opponent, not defending properly, seems like we aren't even trying to play a decent game.

People have every right to be pissed for such a performance. We will have to step up massively with the season starting in two weeks.

The team looks like they are not fit, not sharp, no idea how to play together, fecking shambles of a preparation.
People are already saying rubbish like "Mourinho is past his sell by date" for Christ sake!

It's a pre season friendly! We panic if we are playing like this in November, not now :wenger:

Think I will swerve the match day threads, too many ridiculous statements.

Why did we Sign Mkhitaryan to do what Juan Mata does on the RM/RW. Another top player out of position. Rooney is not a no.10 never has been. Biggest myth ever.

Nobody is claiming he is a #10

We don't look sharp at all, the season is fast approaching and we look terrible.

Sign a proper right winger and move Mkhi to the middle. Carrick also have to play because neither Herrera or Scheiderlin are capable of passing the ball forward.

It's not all about signing new players.

Signing new players won't solve our lack of preparation, if anything it'd put us further behind. We need to arrange some extra friendlies.

We aren't prepared well. We look so off the pace! There is very little understanding between the players.

Some miss LVG, calling team shit, already saying Maureen out.. Fantastic stuff lads, keep it up.
I think(at least I hope) most of it is written with white text or tongue-in-cheek. Would be absolutely daft to base anything on two and a half pre season games.

Because Mkhitaryan has looked lethal for Dortmund on the right. It is pre season. Chill out.

back four
carrick schneid
rash mkhi martial
zlatan

Protection from the mf and pace on both wings.

Need a lot more intensity and risk in trying to win the ball back

Thing is, we have the midfield capable of this, it's the biggest strength of Schneiderlin and Herrera but there is always an out ball because of the lack of mobility in Ibrahimovic and Rooney.

Not sure why people keep bringing up LVGs pre-season results. It's not about the results, it's how we're playing. And from what I've seen we've looked lethargic, I expected better considering the season is only 2 weeks away.

Fellaini coming on this thread is going to explode:lol:

Thats the thing, we looked great under LVG in preseason and look how it panned out.

This forum :D:D
Seriously, we always had bad pre seasons under SAF, we had very good pre seasons with LVG.

SAF earned the right to have poor pre-seasons.
Everybody knew that when it counted, SAF would raise our performance level to be competitive in "real" matches.
But this is Jose's first few games for us and he needs to win games to boost his own confidence as well as the players'.

I refuse to believe that losing games has no negative impact.

You are aware Mickhi played more at RW than as a AM for Dortmund?
He drifted around a lot as was the way of Dortmund's front 4. With us, we have no player capable of attacking from the right so when he does drift, which is what he does, our right isn't going to be very useful. If we had a cohesive attacking unit with players comfortable playing across the pitch he'd be fine there, but we don't. It'd be best to play him as the #10 and use an actual right winger who's going to attack the right there. Or use a #10 like a Griezmann, Pastore, maybe a Pogba or Rashford if tried there, who are comfortable to move out to the wings on occasion to accommodate Mkhi's drifting inside.

What we can see from this game is the same problem we had for the past 3 seasons. Rooney turns our attack into shit. Unless Rooney isn't removed, the problem won't go away.

Well hopefully this will be reverse psychology. A terrible preseason leading to a title winning season?
Pre-season results are irrelevant. But, when we look so unfit and slow...basically looking like we have a lot of work to do - it can be worrying for the start of the season. Cant be doing with crap starts.

The Schneiderlin-Herrera combo in the midfield can only produce something when the instructions are to press and steal balls near the halfway line area. You can't just sit back, absorb pressure and then ask of them to play the ball out of the back. None of them can do that.
Seconded. I would prefer for Mourinho to opt in for a pressing game, however, as he most definetly won't then he needs replace those two. Otherwise we will struggle a lot I fear.

Sounds like the exact same thing that Chelsea fans were saying last preseason.

Thought Schneiders was supposed to be the chosen one??

I think people are hitting the panic button a bit prematurely. There will be more changes in the line-up before the window closes. I've always been amazed by how people were happy with the mediocrity we've been carrying for the last few years.

I realise people are bashing Rooney.
I'm not a fan and I want him sold.
But the fact that we are 1 goal down is not Rooney's fault.

And the excuse, "we are not match fit", is wearing thin.
First Dortmund (who got beat recently by MCFC) and now Galatasary.

Anyway, the game is not over and we need a win to boost confidence.
I highly doubt that losing pre-season games is part of our plan.

Most of these players have barely played 90 mins of football this season. How is not match fit not a valid excuse....

Yes yes yes, it is all LVG's fault that the team under Jose NOW playing shitty football. I knew it.

Pastore? Thats a name I havent heard of for a long time. Rashford can play on the right, true.
