Another day and no real news.
see if Sky Sports are right about him being in Manchester tomorrow.

From registration, and the season is defined for the purpose of clarifying 'complete'.
Yes, it seems like they'll count 9/10 as a full season, along with 10/11 and 11/12 which will make him homegrown. I'm surprised, didn't think he'd get it, Jones didn't get it IIRC, and he was short by much less.
2009/10 does not constitute a complete season, as he wasn't registered until October. This is why he doesn't qualify. We signed him in July 2009, so the 2009/10 season is 1.
The 10/11 season would be 2.
He left after the 2011/12 season, so that would be 3 seasons.
He was born in 1993 so he turned 21 in 2014.
Scroll up it has been posted.
When was the last time we had such a player? Maybe Keane in his early days? Before that, Robson?I must say I'm getting rather excited at the thought of having such a positive, driving force in midfield again. It's been too long.
No he won't!!!!Got it. Okay. Why 3 years? Again my point is its an arbitary rule as all rules are. This particular rule is hardly true to the real 'spirit' of home-grown players now is it.
As will be proven very clearly when we re-sign Paul Pogba. Think about it.
We will have a player on our books that we originally poached from Le Harve and bought back from Juve for £100m. And he will be defined as 'home-grown'. Football's governing bodies never fail to amaze me.

Yes, I don't mean nationally, but he was like a month short of counting as homegrown at Man Utd.This can't be right - Phil Jones was developed in the Football League, first with Blackburn and then United and so there is no way he did not count as an English home-grown player for PL purposes. It doesn't have to be with the current club.

Yup, by 3 months. Thanks to Le Havre bitching about us stealing their prospectyeah I just found that bit and was about to edit my post. So he falls just short.
I'm talking about homegrown at club, not country. Jones is homegrown in England, but a month short of homegrown at Man Utd.the 3 season thing does not have to be with the same club, it can be with multiple clubs as long as the are part of the FA or FA of Wales.
My boss won't have a leg to stand on, given this precedent.

Only in European competition, really.Maybe I missed something but does that even matter?

I think he's more physical than 'all action'. Relies on his phsyique rather than dynamism.
At the risk of going slightly off topic...
Why does it matter if he's homegrown or not? Could we have a lack of homegrown players for the CL or something?
What does that mean? Semantics to me.
When asked to think of "dynamic" players I'd think of the likes of Vieira and Keane in their prime, players able to cover a lot of ground and get you on the front foot. Physicality is part of that.
No-one told you?
Not sure what you are really arguing here, the rule is what it is. Pogba falls short of being Home Grown by bit over a month. Nationality does not play a part in a player being home grown, because it would violate the law. We got Pogba when he was 16, so there is no issue with him being Home Grown had he spent enough time here because he would have developed with us.
The rule is intended to get clubs to use players developed within the two FA's. Now they don't have to be developed from the time they were 8 years old.
It is as arbitrary as any rule is, so what, not sure why that is an issue with you except you seem to want to argue everything in this thread today.
Nail on the head. I see two very different players there. I'd always prefer a Keane type player to a Vieria one. And as I said ages ago Pogba reminds me of Viera.
Will Pogba get a new haircut if he signs with us ?
Maybay he can color it part red with a devil shaven in it![]()
Has there been anything new at all? All this silence is killing me.
Why cant he be built like Vierra but play like Keane?
Not arguing anything. Just saying I think the spirit of the idea of home-grown players is diluted by the rule. That's all.
Can we keep all this homegrown chat to either a different thread, or wait to at least something is official.

In our squad of 25 players for the Premier League, only 17 are allowed to be not homegrown, so it would have been useful to have Pogba be homegrown as well.I guess only because people take pride in the number of homegrown players in the team, not that we are at the risk of having too few homegrown players in the squad anytime soon.
But like Mr.Mujac (?) said above, the definition of homegrown player is quite artificial so I do find the debate a bit uninteresting to be honest.

Guys can I ask a really dumb question here. Seeing as we can't talk aobut
So what ARE we allowed to talk about in the Paul Pogba thread in the transfer forum? Serious question. I'm really beginning to wonder. Is this thread literally just to discuss the transfer when it happens? When news breaks? And nothing else. If it is I will take my leave.
The question of whether a target counts as homegrown is probably the most on-topic this thread has been in days. It's the transfer forum, so surely we should talk about any news relating to the transfer - this homegrown stuff is irrelevant as he isn't a Utd player yet.
When he is fine.
Agree. People seem to also forget how quick he is with the ball at his feet, for a midfielder. He thrives in counter-attacks and that's where people will see the best of him, imo.Vieira was hardly just a physical brute alone. Guy was a fantastic footballer, much like Keane. Pogba seems incredibly dynamic to me; incredibly physical, yes, but also someone who can be key to attacks with plenty of assists and some long-range goals.
He's Muslim, I doubt he'll have any satanic symbolism
Lol
