I just can't believe that any top flight team would pick Jordan fecking Henderson as their club captain - Let alone Liverpool. What is the thinking behind that decision? He makes funny faces and can't play football properly so he makes the other players feel better about their poor abilities? Oh, and don't get me started on Moreno's and Firminho's haircuts

To be fair, I watched the game and Burnley played very well, they were very organised and defended well, limiting Liverpool to shots from distance. The most interesting part was how Milner made it look like they missed Moreno, and it took far too long for Klopp to react. They obviously missed the directness of Mane too, but it seemed as though Klopp made some pretty poor choices with his selection today.
Burnley were great, it won't be the first defence that Andre Gray torments this season. He is like a stronger Vardy with a bit less work rate.

It's a common opinion outside of Liverpool supporters. I find it incredible myself. His lack of consistency for one is a reason he's an odd choice. Then again, maybe we shouldn't throw stones regarding captains.
They kind of needed a true leader to take it after their last captain outstayed his welcome.
Can't believe there was criticism for hoping they beat Arsenal. It's obvious that they are a midtable team now
Firmino is incredibly overrated on here.
He's just another player who's very inconsistent. You can't bank on him at all. Their squad is littered with players like that.

I don't even think he's that good to begin with. With Coutinho, you can say the guy is very good and very inconsistent.
I had a gander at RAWK and their United thread consists of posts yesterday saying we're not good enough at the back ect and comparing their squad situation to us. They're such a bunch of delusional cnuts. When it's staring them in the face, they still think they're on our level. It's incredible. Enjoy your loss you fecktards.

I find it a bit bizarre that Origi hasn't been started in either of the first 2 games. Granted they romped over Arsenal and it wasn't necessarily Sturridge's fault they lost, but he adds a dimension with his size that none of their other creative players bring to the table.
This is also a perfect example of why playing 2 of Wijnaldum/Can/Henderson as your 2 deeper midfielders is asinine. Neither has the discipline to sit deep when in possession because they don't possess the passing range to add to the attack from that far out and in Henderson's case, anywhere at all. Not spending on a real CB, LB and DM in this window is not a good idea for them.

Origi is a donkey who Liverpool fans have convinced themselves is the second coming.
He is? People who followed the Bundesliga closely were laughing their asses off at the sum Liverpool payed for him and used him as a prime example of EPL clubs overpaying for mediocre players. Now mediocre would be probably too harsh of an assessment. For me Firmino is a decent top league player who could be either a key player for a midtable club or a solid squad option for a top club. He should never be expected to be someone who becomes instrumental for an attack of a team with the ambition to qualify for the CL in a top league.

I don't think he's some amazing talent, but if a team is sitting that deep he at least gives them a more direct option to attack through the air. They're not Barcelona that can pass through teams sitting that deep with brilliant, incisive passing.
That's another thing. I don't believe any of their attacking players are very incisive or creative passers be it Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana, etc.
As a whole Liverpool simply lacks the tools to break open well organized deep defende lines. Their LB options are a joke (seriously Klopp, get a new LB...), which results in them hurting when it comes to wide play. Most of all they need a creative midfielder who can actually bring in some surpise moments in their build up play. They are extremely predictable in this department and thus easy to defend. A good set piece taker could also not hurt.
Don´t you have to be rated highly to be overrated? I honestly don´t see many people who rate him as more as what he actually offers.
They do the same thing every summer, spreading the transfer kitty around on 6 or 7 really average players.

Is that tactical genius Klopp's answer to teams who play deep? give the ball to Coutinho and hope he scores from 25 yards? brilliant strategy you cnutwaffle

I found Klopp's tactics odd today. He was up against 10 men camped in their half so naturally they were going to crowd the middle of the pitch and force them out wide. And the guys who had to create from those wide positions were James Milner and Clyne. It's hardly as if Liverpool have magnificent players in central areas to be able to put so much faith in them.
I like Firmino, I think he's a good team player, intelligent & links well. I prefer him to the much more gifted Coutinho over the course of a season. The balance of both of them AND Lallana is not for me unless you have 2 very solid runners/DM behind them. Henderson is the runner, he's not a DM on todays performance. They missed Emre Can a hell of a lot today.

I have no idea why I even bother letting myself get excited at the start of the season any more. We're stuck in this endless loop where we can't get Champions League football because we can't attract the players needed to compete with the sides above us, and we can't attract the players needed because we don't have Champions League football. It's been like that since Benitez left apart from one very good season where we were fortunate to have Suarez as he was reaching his prime.
I don't think Liverpool have a divine right to succeed but considering the money we spend every season I think we deserve a bit better than what we've been getting. Why have we gone into the season without signing a left back (a massive problem area for us) and a holding midfielder which we've needed since Mascherano left in 2010? If it's down to Klopp then I'm baffled as I can't believe he genuinely thinks Henderson can play defensive midfield all season. The starting line up today seemed arrogant, like he thought we could simply play our attacking players and that would be enough. If I had any criticism of him it's that he hasn't prepared us well to deal with sides that sit in and defend in numbers. Maybe he's underestimating them but that's no excuse. We won't progress if we can't pick up points in games we're expected to do so.

We game raise against superior sides than have no answer against the teams we're expected to beat. Today wasn't really any different to our defeats against Swansea, Watford, West Ham, Southampton, Palace etc from last season.We could go and beat Spurs, Leicester and Chelsea in the next three games but still find a way to drop points to Swansea and Hull afterwards. Spurs and Chelsea found ways to pick up the three points when they were up against it today and that's the difference between sides that can finish in the top four, and this Liverpool side.
On a positive note my expectations are pretty low now so I probably won't be too disappointed every time we drop points in games like today. We'll end up 6th or 7th.

Apparently he's always shite in away games. So Klopp played him away against Burnley.
Although think he got an assist against Arsenal didn't he for Lallana's goal? Bit unremarkable aside from that but then again, he hardly pulled up trees at Newcastle so not sure what we should expect.
Regardless of that, him and Henderson are a ridiculous pairing for playing a team sitting deep like Burnley.
Benteke could have been useful today. They've bought some average players (Wijnaldum, Klavan) who they conveniently overrate as the missing piece and what not.

No wonder they concede so many. Like I said, while Klopp's tactics make his attackers look good, they also make his defenders look like idiots. What kind of protection is Henderson and Wijnaldum? No wonder Clyne seemed confused making that pass.

I don't think it can be down to anyone else other than Klopp today. As I said to you in the other thread, playing such an attacking midfield without a holding player is a massive gamble, especially away from home.
Is there talk of any other signings, especially with the sale of Benteke?
Tbf, you were shopping in exactly the same market the season you had champions league football.
