Liverpool would give a right nut to bring through an academy player half as talented as Rashford. Who was your last one of note? Gerrard?

Yeah, Martial has done nothing to put himself amongst the brightest young players in the world either.

You have an issue with Martial and Rashford? You cite Januzaj who has attitude issues and then you use Welbeck who has never been unanimously accepted as top class. With Anderson his hype was before he came to United. You want me to start on the Babels, El Zhars and Le Tellecs etc etc etc?

I find it funny that a fanbase consisting of people that were quick to hail Divock Origami as a second coming of christ after his microscopic golden spell a little while back claims that we are overreacting in calling Rashford a WC prospect. Every sane person on Earth calls Rashford a WC prospect, this naturally excludes most Liverpool and City supporters.

If a 18 year old Rashford isn't a WC prospect then I would like you to list me ten 18 year olds who is brighter prospects. There needs to be atleast 10 ahead of Rashford aged the same to exclude him from the WC talent bracket. I am waiting in excitement, the other Liverpool guy did a Houdini and disappeared when I asked him to do the same.

What a load of tripe - just because someone can or cannot name at least 10 others has no impact or affect on whether Rashford is or isn't.

He is a real talent, if Liverpool were bringing players like him through I would be delighted - but he is chuffin 18 years old, to say he is one of the world's best at that age is ludicrous, just as it would be to make similar claims about others.

If he isn't one of the worlds best at that age, then what is the problem naming some 18 year olds better than him? Never mind 18 year olds, do a list of 10 including 20 year olds that are bigger talents and has had more of an impact.

Considering that Rashford no way in hell is a WC talent, this should be a piece of piss for you to do.

And of course you have to use age brackets when listing talent. Comparing a 22-23 year old talent to a 18 year old is hardly fair. Mind you, you won't be able to list 10 18-22 year olds better or with more of an impact than him either.

Why stop at 10, why not go for 20 or 30. What about the top 10 things ever to come out of Norway....I am struggling a bit after A Ha to be honest.

I don't get the abuse johnny boy is getting, for not considering Rashford, "one of the best young players in the world".
You don't have to be 18, in oder to be a young player, in fact to be considered one of the best young players, you should have been around for a little, to prove that you won't fade away, e.g. Januzaj.
There are some players like Saul, Weigl, Sane, Sterling, Renato Sanches, Dembele or your very own Martial, that most non United fans would probably rank ahead of Rashford, who came relatively out of nowhere last season, right now.
You have every right to be excited about Rashford, even to consider him one of the brightest prospects in the world and if he keeps up his form for the whole season, many neutrals will join this opinion. But right now it is by no means outrageous to reserve judgement until a later date.
 
It's a bizarre thing to be thumping your chest over though. A year after Sterling was named best young player in Europe, he was getting ridiculed for his performances. Januzaj was arguably a bigger talent than Rashford as well and he's pissed it up the wall. Whereas Scholes took ages to realise his talent fully.

There are so many variables at play - It's not really clear at all how good he can actually become. He's not a Rooney or Gerrard who were inevitably going to become world class. Not to say he won't become a world class player. But shouting "my two bird's in the bush are the world's best bird's in a bush" is a bit puerile really.

Sometimes it is just better to admit that you let the ABU get hold of you and clouded your judgement. Your hole just keeps getting deeper and deeper, your total inabillity to name even a few youth talents in the same bracket really is telling.

It really isn't just us United supporters though, is it? Pretty much any commentator and neutral will agree, in fact everyone that watch football bar City supporters where he is Gashford, and Liverpool supporters where everything coming out of Manchester is shit agrees.

Matip has settled in really well here as a Schalke fan what did you think of him and was you sorry he left?
He looks to have pace, commands the back line well and is good in the air - is that fair?

Agreed you never know with young players.

Even Eden Hazard may well end up wasting his talent and he looked a sure-fire bpitw a few years ago.

Thats a fair assessment, he can be a real weapon at corners and set pieces too, with his heading ability. He is defensivly strong most of the time, but prone to the occasional stupid error and his build up play is not top notch, but decent. I also think he can still improve in both regards. I was sad to see him leave, especially on a free transfer, but still I am happy that he is settling well at Liverpool. He has been at Schalke for such a long time and has always given 100% for the club.

Yeah I've seen him threaten a couple of times from corners so far and we're normally pretty toothless from set pieces. You're also right about the occasional error as he was at fault for Costa's goal last week, going to ground for no reason which allowed Matic to get beyond him.

I like the look of him so far though. He seems to be very composed and has developed a decent understanding with Clyne on that side of the defence. I'm looking forward to seeing him up against Ibrahimovic in a few weeks.

Surely you're a great or exceptional talent

If you're a world class talent you're Messi.

You could also say " so and so has the potential to be world class!" But that indicates he's isn't right now :)

Apart from Rashford, when was the last time United brought through a real talent ? Quite a while ago wasn't it ?

Yes. Talents like Rashford doesn't rear their head up very often.

Depends what you mean by brought through. Iwantanacho at City is considered a City talent, but the truth is he came to them at an advanced age. Going by that logic we brought up Ronaldo, Rooney and Pogba as well.

I wouldn't classify Lingard as a real talent, usefull squad player is more like it.

When was the last time Liverpool brought up one? I can't seem to recall anyone after Gerrard.

We have brought through players, they just haven't been as good as Gerrard. Shelvey is the only one that comes to mind at the moment, played consistently in the premier league for Swansea, and is now at Newcastle I think in the Championship. Not a bad career he's had.

Ibe is another one, playing at Bournemouth currently... oh, and how could I forget. Sterling.

Yeah but we are talking about real talents here. If we include players that has gone on to have decent PL and Championship careers then we have produced them like a conveyor. Entire teams has been based on our castaways.

Neither club has produced much talent over the past 10-15 years, so players like Rashford are very rare nowdays. Since the class of 92 we've had the likes of Fowler, Owen, Gerrard, & Carragher come through, but sadly, nothing since then. You'll do well if your young lad gets to the level of Fowler & Owen.

It's not really comparable. United have produced multiple players who have featured in title winning first elevens and squads.

The club has always had academy players featuring in the match-day squad, an unbroken tradition going back decades. That continues to be the case.

Even for the ones who don't reach the highest level, the club is a conveyor belt for producing PL players (and many go on to win top level trophies elsewhere). The game's changed since the early 90s though and United (and no club) will likely ever bring through a multi-talented bunch again, due to the stricter rules on academies.

That's stretching it a bit, you bought him in 2009 and he featured just a small number of times in the first team. It's only been the past couple of seasons at Juve where he has realised that potential.
His early clubs and Juventus have just as much claim as you do.

You also released him and had to pay £89m to buy him back which makes the claims even more dubious.
