Look at Van Gaal. He had achieved a lot, actually, one of his greatest achievements was taking an average Dutch side to 3rd place in WCs just before he began work with us full time. He had experience winning things and had managed top players.
We spent 250m on players and were no closer to winning the PL even then.
LVG's CV is quite impressive but after a careful look you'll start noticing some issues. For example LVG last won the CL in 1995 and that despite spending most of his career with Bayern and Barcelona. The last time he won anything of note was in 2009-2010. That's around 6 years ago. He also got sacked by both Barcelona and Bayern after messing up badly there. How can a manager fail making it to CL qualification with Bayern? I mean Bayern is the German's answer to Scotland's Celtic.
Sure he was impressive with Holland national team ie an old man's job. It was pretty evident that at club level he was past his date.
