Michael Owen said something during the Liverpool game that seems to be ringing true.

He mentioned how we could park the bus against most teams, but also added that the challenge was when we faced similar tactics ourselves. We really struggle to break down teams and I don't think it's merely down to bad luck.

I think it will cost us a lot of points especially away from home where we create far less chances.

We didn't struggle to break them down. We let ourselves down with poor finishing today

I don't think that's the last we've seen of that this season.
What we needed was someone who is like Gary Lineker, a goal poacher who just gets on the end of anything in the box, not someone who might grab the odd spectacular goal. We need someone who just stays in the box ready to pounce.

We didn't fail to break Burnley down. Our finishing was awful. Same with Stoke and Hull. We could have had 5 or 6 today.

A perfect storm, as the saying goes. Those bashing Jose, How many shots on target? Mourinho can't control that. He sent out a team and a formation that should have won, and if the opponent doesn't have a defensive masterclass of a game then we bury them. Instead of slagging off United, give fair play to Burnley. Plenty of games like this happened under SAF. It happens. Ref was awful as well.

If we were to go out and play burnley tomorrow we would beat them 4-0. Pure bad luck we didnt score today.

A bloody frustrating result, obviously. However, LVGs first 10 were also a disaster and we went on and played really quite well in the remaining games.

I see plenty of positives, I think we play some exciting football and when we get the finishing sorted then we'll see more Leicesters and less Stoke/Burnleys.

Chin up, man up, keep fighting.

We do tend to end up having lots of fanciful hits from afar. Maybe not in this game or Stoke, but the Europa league games and some of our league games, we really struggle to Create proper chances.

I think our finishing is terrible too though. So on days when we do get chances,we have that to contend with.

Arghhh. I wish people would stop saying that it happened under saf. It was the same last season before lvg became hated

Yes it did, but more often that not it happened when we were top or at least challenging. It was a massive shock when it happened

When it happens when you are languishing in mid table with 1 win in 7 or whatever it is and no goals for 3 league games, it makes it a lot worse....for me anyway

Lots of speculative hits but plenty of good chances as well. Bad finishing today but just really, really bad luck as well. Anytime you have near 3 xG and don't find the net, the football gods are not with you.

Ridiculous game. Very similar to the Stoke game but even worse in terms of how much we dominated without being able to score. It's certainly not like LVG last season when he was drawing 0-0, we're creating shitloads.

If Zlatan in particular was actually finishing chances at the minute like you'd expect him to, we would've won, but then we can't just rely on one player to score a goal either.

Wasn't a fan of the subs, kept us fairly solid defensively but we had literally no width at all and Rooney and Fellaini just slowed us down.

Than we certainly won't miss this many chances, because we don't get them. It's not allowed to play with 12.

No teams have chances galore like today or Stoke every game.
Difference from last few years is we seem able to play our way through teams more frequent, so that's a positive to build on.

I agree.

But I don't think it's purely down to luck.

Don't want to hound him but Zlatan has been missing so many guilt edged opportunities

Rashford is not effective on the wing but he is a very good finisher. Zlatan is not finishing well at the moment but he is too skillful/ creative on the ball to drop. I wonder if we could not play Zlatan as a number 10 and rashford up front or try some form of interchanging during the game. Maybe the two of them along with Martial as a front three and let them interchange freely. Its only a matter of time for Martial to regain his form/ confidence.

That's exactly what I said.
In the build up play, Zlatan is absolutely World class. I can't say much about his finishing, though.
So if we play Zlatan as a creative attacker, feeding the ball to Rashford, this could work.

That could work. Juan cutting in the provide the ammo. We need pace in that No.9 position. Ibra does some good work, but his finishing has been woeful, let him get on with that good work and see if Rashford or Martial when he is fit can score. As long as it's not Wayne.

It's simple really , 0-0 against a recently promoted team with the team that started the game ( not to mention how much it cost) is unacceptable.

I don't even know what to say or what to analyze anymore. Seems like we've rotten luck and I hate saying that because it's exactly what Liverpool have been saying for years.

Ugh.

It's really hard to forgive lvg for getting rid of him

Would be easily the most natural goal scorer in our squad

Agreed. I feel that missed penalty was the last straw. Puts a ton of pressure on a young lad and he misses it. Meanwhile, Rooney does feck all the entire season and he's hailed as one of the greatest player's he's ever managed.

I don't know what we have to do to win.
