Chelsea 2016/17 - Very Content

Rather them than Pool, City or Arse.

We could have got Conte, instead we had to go for the shiniest toy as always and went for that snake oil salesman Moyerinho.

While it's too early to say that Conte would have been the better choice, I do agree with your point that as a football club we have a complete lack of imagination these days. The only two names you really heard as possible successors to LVG were mourinho and Giggs (ex players choice). The latter was the "United Way" choice and the former the "instant success" choice. Considering someone like Conte who was neither was just something you'd never really hear about. I wish we were a bit more creative sometimes, and not just on the pitch.

We could have God himself in charge and nothing would change.

As long as the putrid shit is allowed to fester in the background then the club will suffer on the pitch.

I like Conte. He seems an enjoyable man to play under despite his reputation of a detailed, regimental style of coach.

Chelsea are looking great right now. Fair play to conte on getting good peformances and results so quickly.

I've conceded our chances of the title, so Chelsea winning it is the probably the option I can deal with best. I've always been indifferent to their club, even despite the way they became a top club.

It's impressive he spotted the cause of their problems and fixed them so quickly. I thought they were shit at the start of the season (despite the wins), and got exposed by Arsenal and Liverpool. But he changed it around, and implemented his changes immediately.

Plus he did it with a Chelsea squad, which is full of some of the biggest wankers in the entire league. Could've gone south pretty quickly, after the Arsenal game.

I like Conte, really good to see such passion shown on the sidelines. I do think Chelsea will get found out at some point though and fall well short of the title. I think they will likely finish fourth behind City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Think we need to be investigated for matchfixing, last 5 results have been 2-0, 3-0, 4-0, 5-0.

Damn. I would kill to score even half as many goals.
In comparison, we scored 1 goal during the entire month of October. :annoyed:

I know that people are impressed by Conte, but had he joined us, in all likelihood, we'd still be struggling.
I am not sure what is wrong with MUFC (are we cursed?), but Jose is the biggest hitter who was available in the Summer and as Paul Scholes stated: Jose may (and probably will need to) change most of current starting XI, to get us winning.
Smiling, swapping shirts and clapping after getting absolutely spanked by CFC is really all the proof that is needed. Unfortunately, Very few of our current squad are worthy of winning the title.

I would prefer that we work with the current playing staff, to give them a final chance, but if things continue like this (primadonnas who don't feel like making any effort in some games, because it is beneath them), I hope Jose is absolutely ruthless.

You missed Southampton which you won 2-0, so it would 2, 3, 4, 2, 5.

That just makes it more impressive though. You've gained the maximal 15 points (including results against tough teams Champions Leicester, and ourselves), scoring 16 goals without reply. That is seriously impressive.

Agreed...and it will probably really piss Jose off...which can only be a good thing!

What makes United and Leicester "tough" this season ?

After all the talk from day 1 by the media when van Gaal took over about 3 at the back not working in England, Conte seems to be doing all right with it.

That's just my opinion. Leicester have had their fair share of smashings this season, but I think that's more so a credit to the way teams have set up against them this season. Leicester are still a very potent counter-attacking team if you don't nullify their threat.

As for us, well every team that has gotten any kind of result against this season has had to work their socks off, and produce performances far beyond what you'd expect they're capable of. Exception is probably Chelsea where we just genuinely fecked up.

Have to admit I was skeptical of Conte, thought he would be the worst of the ''top 5'' club managers but he's starting to get an average enough Chelsea team playing with real venom.

Gotta love his passion when his team scores, the greasy cnut.

the difference being Conte has 4 in midfield with 2 hard working WB's and 3 upfront that have the outside 2 rotating all the time rather than LvG rigid 352

Agree strongly with this post, especially the part in bold.

Dude didn't you get the memo? If managers of other teams celebrate excessively it's cringe worthy. Didn't you learn anything from the Klopp disaster?

Eden Hazard is an outrageously good footballer. That is why Chelsea are better than us.
They haven't conceded a goal in five games! He is amazing but certainly not the only reason they're better. they actually look like a really good team. He's just the standout.

This is a very good point. LVG was slaughtered for using that formation while everyone is currently waxing lyrical about Conte. Although Conte's team seem to pass with more purpose & are much more direct I think the difference between the two systems are ultimately the level of players.

Exactly. At times we also didn't have 2 fit CBs let alone 3! We can keep blaming manager after manager for our performances but fact is we have a lot of average and unreliable players in our squad.

Yeah that's fair comment. But teams can go through spells like that easy enough, we did under LVG! But look at Hazards first goal, it wasn't even a chance. Double marked and he just scores for fun.

Formation used doesn't matter all that much in the end. Like to an extent it does, but the biggest thing that managers work on is the playing style. Plenty of managers like Pep have said the same. It doesn't matter what formation they use on the pitch, it's the overall play style which is what matters. Playing 4-3-3 can be used for possession and high pressing, it can also be used to counter attack and sit deep. Same with 3 at the back formations. Can be used to hoof it forward, to play a possession and safe style like what LvG did and then like what Conte does. The level of players of course matters, but that's not what held us back under LvG when we had plenty of top players still. It's on the managers to get them to perform as well as they can, as Conte has started to do at Chelsea. Half their team looked average last season. Marcos Alonso and David Luiz are hardly anything better then "just good" on their day, but they work for his system.

And how did he look last year?

I'm hoping Manchester's improvement is simply an influx of new players.

Kante + Pedro + David Ruiz = success.

Ibra + Pogba + Bailly = middle of the table.

Sad day.

To be fair, Van Gaal was very good, most of the time vs top half sides He was fecking shyte vs bottom half sides and lower league opposition. It was the system, wait for the space, don't force the space. Works very well against teams that attack but it's complete and utter useless against teams that sit back. Mourinho was to blame for last seasons failure and has to take some of the blame for this season.
Players need to step up though.

It won't last.
Who is beating them, right now? I think if they played Lpool and Arsenal again, they wouldnt lose both.

After they twatted utd 4-0, everyone said ah saints will be the big test, they beat them 2-0. Then it was oooo Everton will be the one, 5-0

Theyre looking seriously good

We'll probably drop points away to the smaller clubs. Its imperative at this point we carry this momentum before it burns out.

They're absolutely mesmerising! They have a manager that knows what he is doing.

Are they now the best side Koeman ever managed against or does he only say that about his best friend in football?

They've 3 of some of the best players in the league in Hazard, Costa and Kante. When they all turn up, Chelsea are an excellent team. That difference between us and Chelsea is mindset and motivation in my opinion. The players believe in themselves, they believe in the manager and they believe in their system and that's why results have started to look up. The attacking players are playing well and are supported by the team who are playing well defensively because they are highly motivated.

Conte has done an excellent job by converting potentially a good team to an actual good team- all they needed was the motivation. Individually players like Cahill, Alonso, Moses and Luiz might not ON PAPER look like great players but collectively they are playing very well right now because their manager flicked that switch on.

I'm just really interested to see how they fare against City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham later on in the season. Realistically I would much rather they go on and smash the league than City, Liverpool or Arsenal as I don't believe we will be in the title race.

We've Ibra, Mata, Pogba, Martial and Mkhi who've the potential to be very good and up there with the best in the league too. They don't look motivated right now. If they start getting their heads right we'll start to pick up, I am sure of it. The likes of Ibra, Rashford, Mkhi, Blind, Shaw are all good players on their day. We need to make sure we get them on their day, we need to make sure they're motivated. Mourinho must go flick the same switch for our players- whether that entails changing formations, dropping players, selling Rooney, doing xyz I do not care it simply must be done. All of this is a huge IF though, I don't think it can be done in less than a season but who knows?
