Jose: "There are those who want to be here at any cost and those who suffer with a little pain."

Do you agree with Jose criticizing players in public for not being willing/fit to play?

Mourinho always gets his players to play with injuries, its part of the winning, body on the line culture. If you have a squad of players with the right mentality its hard to beat, we haven't had a team for a long time like that.

How can it be Martial when he was put on the bench? He'd have been completely dropped if he wasn't willing to play. Has to be Shaw, which lines up with what was said pre-game as well.
Anyone who made the 18, I think it's safe to say, are his players. The rest, should have a long hard think about themselves.

So people would rather back an unproven fat left back who has achieved nothing of note in football over one of the greatest managers of all time? end of the day what Shaw's brother tweeted was shockingly disrespectful and for Jose to even use him in the next game was quite surprising for me. The fact that Shaw has apparently pulled out of a game, you can imagine Jose is well within his rights to be doubting this kid's mentality to play.

Way I see it is this, Bailly - awesome mentality, awesome player.. Pogba likewise, Zlatan for all the stick he is getting - probably the only reliable goalscorer we have right now at the age of 35.

Not happy about the Mkhi situation but bottom line is this squad of players has been underperforming for years and even during the latter years of Fergie's reign there was a drop in standards in the club. There has been a long term rot in the culture of the club and you can't resolve these type of things closed doors especially when these players are ratting to the media every week.

Let Jose do his thing and gut the squad. Even if he himself is gone in two years, we will still be better off with his revamp because end of the day the players he brought to Chelsea, Porto, Inter.. are the players who proved to be the spine behind great successes. He does buy alot of dross too but overall he usually leaves behind a great set of players with proper quality behind.

If he feels he hasn't got that squad here, trust him and let him fill up the squad with new faces.

Well we are living in modern times and as times change so do footballers and their attitudes. One of the very reasons Fergie lasted so long at our club was because he adapted to the changing times.

So throwing these 'modern footballers' under the bus publicly isn't exactly going to help in anyway when you have to work with them on a day to day basis. As I said this approach is only going to end one way, and that's with a sacking of the manager. If Jose doesn't adapt he will suffer the same fate.
I understand, but LVG went all passive and just took everything that was thrown at him. Even if he tried to do things differently in his own clumsy way, the players still disrespected him and refused to listen to his instructions. In that case, if you're going down, probably just best to go down doing things your own way.
Mind, I hope we don't hear more of this from Jose. I hope this is enough to give the players a kick up the backside.

Why was it surprising? Wasn't like Shaw told his brother to tweet all that.

According to the M.E.N it is Shaw and SMALLING he has called out, who said they were not fit to play. That they were not willing to play through the pain barrier.

Surprising because I thought Jose would snap and try and punish Luke.. he is quite vengeful like that.

With his comments he could also be praising Pogba for playing right after getting that ankle injury. :)

What these players who are going behind his back don't seem to have realised is that while they could bitch and moan to the press before with Mourinho it is different, he has friends in the media too.

Its not just the media either.

I think everyone feels 'if not Jose, then who?' Its not like when we had Van Gaal and people could see other alternatives. Mourinho has revived big clubs off the boil, he's the only manager besides Sir Alex to win back to back Premier Leagues. There seems to be a consensus that if he can't fix United nobody can, especially with Klopp and Pep as the competition. That means drip feeding anti Mourinho stories has less impact. Mou won the title two season ago, his recent record gives him more security and authority than his predecessors.

Also, after three years of failure, people have started to ask 'maybe its not all the manager's fault?' When we read stories claiming Mourinho's 'distant', or that he attacks players verbally, they think back to the Fergie years and say 'when we had a manager doing that we won things. Maybe its the players?' So when these stories turn up in the media they lack credibility.

I don't see what's wrong with Shaw asking to sit out the match if he had a niggle. It was a game against one of the worst sides in the league who we were ultimately able to sweep aside easily with a makeshift defence, and Shaw's not long back from a long-term injury which had him on the sidelines for a very, very long time.

I'd expect him to push through for a big game but if he'd played and worsened his injury today for no genuine reason at all then it'd have been full-on idiocy.

A player would know their body better than anyone else. Their decision should be respected if they say they are not in good condition to play.

Smalling should be begging to play again after the Chelsea game.

They just keep moaning to the press. I'd have gone ballistic as well.

Well, they just probably follow the great example that is being him since the City game, where he started moaning about his players at the first sign of non-success.
You have to give Mou one thing though, he knows how to set up a narrative, and have folks eating it up as gospel:lol:

No he does not because the fans can do one. As a fan, I gave him my trust and he can do his job peacefully behind closed door without turning the club into a telenovela.
If the fans don't understand and start to turn then it makes the job harder, it also allows the players to hide behind the negativity.
Again he tried to keep the Mikhi situation in house but that only made it worse, where was the trust from the fanbase there?
if the players weren't working the media then fair enough but United players being reportedly shocked at this and that over the most basic demands is a cancer to our club. He has to fight fire with fire.

Some people on this forum are an absolute joke. Never happy. Always finding something to complain about even after a solid 3 points.

There's obviously something that has been rotting our club ever since fergie left and it's becoming more and more apparent that it's a portion of our squad. So fair play to Mourinho for saying what he said. It needs to be done because what he has been trying behind closed doors hasn't been working. We need to get behind Jose at all costs and support him until he gets it right because just like he has at it every other club he's managed, he will get it right! I'm personally done with some of these overpaid pussies we have as players and I trust Jose to get rid of the poison and get us back to where he belong. It's been 4 months and some of you are already throwing in the towel. Take a look at yourself, who are we turning into?

It really is staggering.

What went worse concerning Miki? The strongly worded posts on the caf or twitter?

And the medias invent stories, they don't need the players and very often don't even contact the players to write the stories you read.

Isn't the irony that you just won, picked up 3 points, and your manager went out and complained about his players?

Get in Jose, too many players more interested in paychecks than playing

This is going to end up really bad. Its like having commitment issues after a big break up. After SAF left we are going to find it tough giving control to some one person. Its easy to say sell the players and get new ones. But I doubt its that simple. Plus will Mou be here for years? I just hope its not David.

Smalling should be begging to play again after the Chelsea game.
The problem was he probably had an injury in that game and made the effort to play and he and the club got trashed, so… Maybe he thought he wasn't to be sacrificed again.

Criticising our players in public after a win is both pointless and stupid. Especially when the supposed suspect is a 21 year old coming off of a leg break that has previously struggled to adapt to living away from the South Coast.

Question the latter all you like, but there are other, better ways of dealing with these situations.

I'm admittedly struggling to believe this emerging narrative that our players lack the right mentality or culture at the club, and that it's something that's been pervading since Fergie left.

Our squad has changed massively since that time: the only players who are really still around are DDG, Rooney, Carrick, Young, Valencia, Smalling and Jones. Valencia's improved under Mourinho, and Carrick's still a class act even if he's getting older. Rooney's the only one who sticks out there as having been someone to constantly complain about.

I do think there are some mentality problems in there, but they're being overplayed and overstated...the primary reason we've been a bit shit since 2013 has been down to poor management and an inability to put a consistent side together. Mourinho's shown some improvement, I think, and will continue to do so but I think we're speculating about a lot that's probably exaggerated.

That's a click bait if I ever saw one. The photo shows the academy of at least four years ago. All the lads wearing Nike and it looks like Wilson there wearing the white polo.

And really who is behind the site? Who do they have connected at the club? This week was the first I have ever heard of them and everything I have seen from them so far is Mourinho propaganda.

Good! The players have met their match. The manager finally moans as much as them, see how they like that!

So when Klopp calls out Sturridge for not playing through pain he's a genius but now Mourinho does the same thing and people complain in droves? Get a grip.

We've not even lost today. Why is he deflecting attention from the result?

Exactly

Who said that Klopp was a genius for doing things like that?

Jose is really going for the jugular isnt he?! High risk strategy this, publicly criticising players every week.

Well not surprised by this. I think it's been quite obvious that whilst there's talent in this squad, the moment they face a bit of adversity in the past few years they have turned into cowards. To succeed at this level you have to be willing to get over the challenges that you face every week not duck out the moment things get tough.

I also don't think it's a bad thing he's given them a dig in the public about it. They need to face up to it.

Shaw's position in the side isn't guaranteed. He should be wanting to play as much as possible to establish himself. He needs to play through the pain barrier. I presume he was declared fit by the doctors. It shouldn't matter whether the game is City or Swansea.

Not setting the record straight allows the stories to linger and grow.
When Jose kept it in house, Miki became a mental midget who was used as a sweetener for Pogba and Ibra and is being frozen out of Old Trafford instead of not adapting immediately to what Jose needs and needing to up his level to United standards.
The leaks at our club is ridiculous, the email nonsesne with LVG still hurts my head.

So when Klopp calls out Sturridge for not playing through pain he's a genius but now Mourinho does the same thing and people complain in droves? Get a grip.

Klopp got asked about Sturridge and how he was recovering. It's completely different from calling out someone unprovoked.

Circumstances were really different and there's much more context to what klopp said.
