Wayne Rooney has left the England squad and returned to Manchester United.

The striker sat out this morning’s session at Tottenham Hotspur’s training ground as a precaution due to a minor knee injury.

However, with Gareth Southgate already set to rest his captain for the visit of Spain to Wembley Stadium tomorrow night, Rooney has been allowed to return to his club for further assessment.

Left-back Ryan Bertrand, who also missed today’s session, will remain with the Three Lions squad and stays in contention for the fixture against Julen Lopetegui’s side.

Wonder if he hurt that knee falling over :wenger:

pretty sure he's faking the injury so he doesnt get embarrassed by herrera and co, to start against Arsenal.. hopefully he doesn't as it means he would pretty much ruin our chacnes to win the game..

That makes little sense especially given he isnt even a starter for England anymore.

he started games ahead of Mickytaryan and other much better players for the last couple of games, he will find a way to force himself onto the pitch with his name on the back, we know that he will not start all games this season but there will be games in which he starts because you can't unfortunately ignore him

Talking about England.

Ah, just some nonsense! It's not a broken toe, it's a minor knee injury, just take some injections and man up to represent your country as the captain against the best team in the world at home in the grandest stadium of all; the Wembley. Come show these underweight, underpaid Spanish amigos how to spray passes, and tell them how bad their wine is too !

Moyes would have congratulated him for going the extra mile and taking up extra curricular activities with the greatest defender ever (Phil Jagielka).

This is where Rio went wrong.

Crap. That's good news for you if he's out for the Arsenal game... plus Arsenal don't have Bellerin, and Sanchez might not be 100%.

If you're gonna beat them...nows the time

I'm surprised by the number of people in here who are gullible enough to believe in everything the Sun prints. I guess it's the same reason that Trump won the election. If you have an agenda, you'll believe anything to support it no matter how tenuous.

I thought Wayne was protected by the press?
