David Moyes | West Ham in talks with him for managerial job

Apologies, that's not what I meant. I meant new as in 'not played for Moyes' before.

I knew what you meant mate, but it ties into the idea Moyes isn't too knowledgeable when it comes to scouting and just sticks to what he knows.

When he took over United he knew he couldn't just sign Everton players (though he tried for 2 and got 1), so he did the next best thing which was give the club a list of targets consisting of established players well known to him who played in the PL for a long time.

I wouldn't have minded his plan of going for big targets at first but he had no plan B, dithered about all summer with no back up targets. Then the club had to try to sign 4-5-6 players in the last few days of the window. And all we ended up with was Fellaini for millions more than we could have signed him for just weeks before.

I know how he feels. When I go a few years to far in FM it's filled with regens and you just can't trust them. You go with what you know.

It's unfortunate for Sunderland that what he knows are players who are uninspiring and most of them winding down their careers. I think it shows Moyes' lack of interest and passion for the game, he doesn't seem to have added anything to his management. His knowledge on the transfer market consists of what he had, just looks out of touch and disinterested.

I think you are right, doesn't seem like he watches much football beyond the Premier League if he watches much football at all.

I think it's simply because Sunderland has not a lot of money (players are leaving them for better pay) so they can't buy players tempting them with wages. It's also not London or something to be tempted by the location. Then the only remaining option is buy players who will come for the manager. Which is probably what's been happening.

Imagine how bad a player must be to want to move to another club just to play for David Moyes.

1967 > 1968 was it ?

Perhaps I'm wrong - maybe it was different year or maybe it wasn't Charlie Hurley....

I just remember going to the match as a youngish teenager and struggling to hold back the tears as we filed out of OT after the match.

Think you're memory's playing up pal. Can remember the 63/64 Cup. We drew 3-3 at OT with King Charlie scoring an own goal. We were 3-1 up with about 2 minutes to play and Charlton and Besty scored to take it back to Roker where we 2's apiece after extra time. Big Nick Sharkey scored a couple and Charlton scored with the last kick of the game then we went to Huddersfield and you tonked us 5 or 6-1 and Law got 3 or 4.

Can't stay off the ale. Allegedly. Then there was an incident a year and a half ago where he hit a cyclist while drink driving and left the scene (only to smash into a petrol station afterward).

Don't think he has been injured much as of late, but he doesn't have the legs to play in Koeman's midfield.
Reading on GOT, that's the same reputation he seems to have.

Seems to love the hard drinks.

Saved his job for another few games I guess?
Next 3 in league are Palace away, Southampton home and Everton away. A good point yesterday but I think he needs at least 4 points from next 3. In fact, Palace away is massive game and he will have to show some balls, ambition and have players believe they can win. It is the cliched 6 pointer.

He needs to make it difficult for Palace ;)

The dudes over at the "RTG" forums are happy to defend David Moyes but blame their chairman Ellis for everything that's happened.

There's definitely a large element of truth - it sounds like their investment over the years has been poor, especially considering their good fanbase.

But Moyes latest words "we have to build a good team spirit because we don't have the players we would like." Jesus fecking Christ. Imagine if you're a Sunderland player reading that. Doesn't matter if it's true - saying "we" implies that the players somehow agree that they're shit, admittedly that's my take on it. Nobody that BELIEVES they're garbage can become anything other than a loser.

They're absolutely nailed on to get relegated. Terrible squad, terrible manager and terrible chairman.

Was almost identical on here with Woodward getting the blame for Moyes (and to an extent) Van Gaal's idiocy.

ANDY....

Probably you're right. I've already reached the stage where I often can't remember what I had for dinner last night, but there you go...

My recollection is a match at OT and Sunderland ( or someone else entirely ) playing in a light blue shirt with dark shorts ( did you ever do that ? ) and a last minute goal against us. And why Charlie Hurley ? Oh well....

So I suppose apologies if for the past 30-odd years I've had this mistaken dislike for your guys - but doesn't stop me disliking your current manager enormously, and for good reason the way he screwed it up at our club.

Personally I think that Gibson is a good player IF fit. Good passing range, tank of a shot in him. Sunderland are crying out for goals from midfield so might work out well. IF fit

We're all wrong about some things in football, gb. This insistence on Gibson being a good player is yours.

He is such an ididot. As if something would have been different.

He started before pre season at United with all the money he could dream of and only brought in Fellaini 1 hour before deadline day for 4m more than his release clause a month ago. Absolute joke he is.

Maybe if he surrounds himself with enough ex United players he can convince himself he's still managing at Old Trafford.

Would be poetic if he can last til the game at Goodison only to get smashed and then sacked the day after like last time.

Great result for him, the players must be very grateful to him for getting this result for them; right in time for Sunderland's regular Lazarus revival? We're never getting rid of them

Was reading this article about him taking Sunderland to train in NYC thinking that he sounds slightly more likable than normal, then he ruins it in the last paragraph by outing himself as a Trump sympathiser...

All that remained was for Moyes to issue an open invitation to the new US president. “If Donald Trump wants to come and see the boys, he’s very welcome,” he said. “Maybe we’ll go to Trump Tower, see if we can get anywhere near it.”

Oh, Dave.

Oh, Dave.

What an absolute turd of a man he is.

Id love to see him go to Celtic, just to see can he actually win something.

Rodgers come back next year to a midtable team and Moyes runs up to Celtic and leave Sunderland in the championship.....where Im sure he will mention his time in the Champions League proves he is more than good enough for Celtic.

Also, a shame Januzaj is wasted there for a year. Would rather he spend six months at United training and then go on loan for the rest of the season to a team with more skill than Sunderland

Sounds like he's trying to make it difficult for Trump Tower to get a result.
