Manchester United are now officially the most successful club in England

Club World Cup means you get to wear that silly little badge on your shirts for a year = major

Bleacher Report's Twitter doesn't count Intercontinental Cup as it is a two team competition.
Who gives a feck. Back in the Intercontinental days, it was either Europe vs South America in a single final or two legs. In the new days it's a match vs some random club from around the world, then Europe vs South America in a single final. It's the same thing

Intercontinental or no Intercontinental we still have more than Liverpool :)

Really, Liverpool's 2001 UEFA Cup shouldn't really count...

Old UEFA Cup - second best teams in each country.
2001 UEFA Cup - 4th-7th best teams in each country.

Anyone who doesn't count the Cup Winners Cup must be about 12. It was as one of the three principle UEFA trophies for decades. If the Cup Winners Cup doesn't count you may as well discount UEFA Cups/Europa Leagues.

Don't think anyone is debating the Cup Winners Cup! They should bring that back!

I'm confused how the World Club Cup WOULDN'T be counted as a major trophy???

Well if we include the FIFA World Cup then we will also need to include the Super Cup and the Charity Shield.

No? Those cups are only one match. The FIFA Club World Cup is at least two matches. It counts.

The Intercontinental Cup used to be two matches too. We lost the Intercontinental Cup in 1968 over two legs

Probably best to keep things tidier and just count league, 2 English cups, then the original 3 European cups/ensuing versions isn't it?

Once you start adding cups that are 1 or 2 games after winning the European cup, it becomes a bit awkward, as those didn't always exist, so isn't technically a fair challenge.

Don't know mate. A trophy for which you need to google the rival team just to make sure such team even exists makes it a bit hard to take seriously. I doubt many fans can name the team we beat in the 2008 final. Feels a bit small time to put it in the same bracket with other major trophies.

Almost as small time as the stars on City's shirts.

LDU Quito. It counts.

It will be 42 end of the season hopefully so this bickering can stop. Anyway for the record its 41

Will Liverpools PR machine get desperate again and start talking about Leagues won during the two world wars?

:D

Little did they know

Why is this thread still open?

44 years, countless amounts of SLY money, referees in their back pocket and Souness helped Manure to overtake us.

We will overtake them, we have King Kenny, we have FSG.

Records are meant to be broken. I know we wish it wasn't those lot, but they have done. Move on, next game, next season.

If the debate is about what's a major and minor competition relating to European trophies, why not just tally up only the "proper treble" competitions - League, FA Cup, UCL? It would be 35 v 30 to United in that case.

Or even just the League and UCL, competitions that every team tries to win no matter what the conditions...18 v 18 there.

No point, most of the winners of the FA Cup would be in the Champions League anyway.
But let the teams that qualify for both, play in both!

Cup Winners Cup would start in September and finish around December (single leg ties).

Champions League would run like normal except cut down the group stage or something

The Club world cup is probably one of the hardest trophies to win. You have to win the f'ng Champs league to even get into the tournament. Its not a one off game , its an actual tournament. should be counted and put us at 42

The Club World Cup is a major tournament in my view but it's probably devalued by always being played in Japan and by the inclusion of two other below par teams, also it seems a really "distant" competition as not many will get to watch it.. But to win it is the culmination of a two and a half year project - first season a team has to get into the CL, second season it has to win it and finally defeat, usually, the best South American team.

I wonder what RM, BM, Juventus and Barcelona consider this trophy to be ?

What, Pochettino's older brother?

Until we can over take their 5 champions leagues they will always use that to throw back at us. Once we are level and go ahead they will literally have nothing left.

It's annoying as we should have had 1 more in the late 90's and 1 more in the late 00's, as well as 1 in the late 1950's that was tragically taken away. We have underachieved in Europe really. When you saw Chelsea and Liverpool completely fluke it whilst finishing 5th/6th in the Premier League it was very irritating. We have to build an all conquering domestic team before we manage it. Hopefully Jose can guide us to 1. Thinking way ahead though after winning what is only the League Cup.

Counting the Club World Cup, but not the Intercontinental Cup is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. They are the same thing!!!

They are not the same thing. There's more than one game to play in the club World Cup. The super cup is a one-day event.

If you want the super cup counted, then you can as well add the community shield to your math which would then put United miles ahead of Liverpool.
