Top 4 race 2016/17

Sure, until you remember that today's match was the one you were most likely to win.

 True. Still, you're potentially playing something like 16 games in the time we're playing 9. I'm expecting United to drop as many easy points as we do.

If we win our two games in hand on Liverpool we should be 2 point ahead of them and 2 behind City assuming they win their game in hand.

We are their game in hand. If we win our two games in hand we will be 2 ahead of Liverpool and 1 ahead of City.

We're 5th

You're not though. I say your 4th two points ahead of us. I assume you'll win the two in hand.

I hate it when people have different games played. You have no idea what the table actually looks like.

Edit: oh wait. City is one of your games in hand

Isn't this 'game in hand' the Manchester Derby? ;)

1 game in hand is against City though for us I'm sure so we would go above both if we win the 2 in hand.

More important than finally getting out of 6th place is that 4th place is now in our own hands. Liverpool's run-in isn't too bad, so I think it would help our cause if Arsenal beat City in the next round of fixtures.

For Liverpool it was imperative City didn't open a four point gap tonight. Lose or draw that game in hand against Utd means they can't afford to slip up against Chelsea, Arsenal and whomever else they have in the top six.

By keeping City close to us means they won't be giving that Utd game in hand up like pussy cats. :)

Edit: also importantly that point gained puts Arsenal in trouble as they need to win both games in hand with more than a 4 goal difference to overtake us. One of those games in hand? You guessed it, Utd. Did I mention City soon too? ;)

This is the way I see it unfortunately, I think United will just miss out because we'll drop more points this season in a congested programme of fixtures.

It was around this time or league position capitulated through tiredness. Mourinho, @cyberman, @Kraftwerker might be living all the cup fixtures but there's always a pound of flesh to concede. : popcorn gif:

battle for 4th is getting very interesting. would become much more interesting if we are able to do in two weeks what we haven't done since 1999. Of that however I have little hope.

I love the cup fixtures too, being in the hunt for silverware is nothing to be sniffed at. However there's no doubt the extra games have taken a toll on our squad and, even though on paper the top four is in our hands, we're definitely going to need you to drop a considerable amount of points in the run-in.

I do not think that Utd will make top 4. We have the least favourable run in, and EL games which are as important and hard as games against top 5-6 teams in the Premier League. I can see us dropping lots of points in the next 2 months but winning the EL.

This is going to the wire, the key is from now on we should not be dropping easy points specially at home, if we manage to win the next 2 with City play Arsenal and Pool play Everton then we have a real good chance to be in top four.

I'll definitely take that.

That's why Mourinho was so happy today. It's all in our hands, we desperately need points and winning an away game without arguably the most important players shows we can do this. Young, Fellaini, Lindgard will all play plenty of important games this season, it's crucial they could step up when it counts. I think a scenario of winning EL and taking 2-3rd place in Premier League is doable.

Ive never seen a poster immediately log on and tell us how your draws are soooo important and United need to worry about x and y.
Every draw, it's admirable in a way.
You should have won that today, the fact your goals have dried up should be a major concern for you since your defence is as bad as it's always been.
A week's rest and you're still not doninating sides with your match fitness..

Goals drying up is a concern, genius. Thus a draw was fantastic. For you and for us. Both defences were very good today I thought. Stones and Otamendi for them and Klavan and Matip for us had a good test each.

In our own hands now.
Yep. And considering how amazing Liverpool have apparently been and how shite we had apparently been, it's not too bad.

Still not arsed though. Pool and Arsenal fans might get excited about finishing 4th but I don't - it's first or nothing in my book.

But I was brought up on Fergie - not Houllier and Roy Evans. Standards are different

I wouldn't say any defender came out with any credit today tbh. How many chances do both sides need to score?
If that ended 3-3 people wouldn't have said it was an unfair scoreline, that finishing is up there with us v Burnley or West Ham.

I have no idea what this primary school level post is all about or why you've tagged me, but assume it's you trying to put a brave face on another failed Liverpool season.

Yep, it's terrible being in the hunt for a European trophy. Next season I just want us to forfeit all our European games so we can focus on getting European football for season 2018/19.

Same with Burnley who have an excellent home record:

9 wins (Liverpool, Watford, Everton, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Southampton, Leicester City)
2 draws (Hull City, Chelsea)
3 defeats (Swansea, Arsenal, Man City)

Last time they lost a game at home was November.
I think our away form should be able to get something there from them as they wont be sitting back at home like they were at OT.

Chelsea Tottenham united city . That's my prediction and a strong guy feeling.

We need more points around us dropped. We're not beating City or Southampton away.
Southampton will be towards the end of the season when they're basically on the beach while City have shown nothing to be scared of.
I'm more worried about Everton at home than City away, we struggle v deep laying sides more than a City side who can't defend.
If they set up like today with Toure v Mkhi then we should create enough going forward.

What happens IF Leicester win the champions league this season, can they qualify for next seasons CL ?

Yes. CL winner gains entry to next season's Champions League.

If Leicester were to somehow win and United won the Europa League, then the 4th placed team in the league would not qualify.

5 teams maximum from a league are allowed in the Champions League.

We don't struggle if we add the right balance a d play mkh . Also we create so many chances but poor finishing costs us.

City are pretty shite, I'd say we could definitely beat them if we bring our A game to the Etihad. Especially with Yaya Toure lumbering about in their midfield and Clichy going up against Martial.

If we don't win either of those matches, there is no fourth place for us.

Of course. The champion of UCL gets qualified automatically, and is a first seed.

Yes. If Leicester win the CL and we win the EL then the team in 4th will not get CL next season. If only one of Leicester and Utd wins their competition then it will be top 4 + the winning team(assuming Utd don't finish in the top 4).
