The Great Escape from relegation 2017: Tigers vs Swans

So much for those initial complaints about British/European managers when Phelan got booted.

It could get interesting with that last relegation place, Swansea could certainly win a couple and if one of the others go through a bad patch or gets a critical player injured then the Swans might just survive.

I don't think Bilic is enjoying this season though thankfully for them they can score goals.

I'm torn between wanting Hull to hiccup to help Swansea, or to keep up their brilliant form under Silva to stick it to Merson and his ignorant views.

Best case scenario is Hull and Swansea staying up, and Merson being fired

Last night win for us was epic, normally we fold when it comes to teams in and around us but so far Silva has done a superb job. We have Watford and Sunderland at home win those and grab a few on the road starting with City...
Know what? I think you're capable of doing City, especially with Niasse in good knock. Go Tigers! :boring:

Ideally Palace and West Ham will get properly dragged into the battle for survival. I'd rather see Swansea and Hull with promising managers getting the best out of their relatively inexpensive squads than the shite that Palace especially put out most weeks with plenty of £15-30m signings throughout the squad.
Agreed. The Premier League needs better teams, not ones expensively assembled. That, and watching West Ham play Championship at the Olympic stadium.. priceless

That video of Merson et al going off on Silva when he first came in, have been hopping he keeps them up ever since.

He's done some job.

I want Hull to survive just to put Merson and Phil Thompson back in their box.

@Cascarino beat me to it!

Merson seems to be a pro-Brexit guy. Not commenting on whether that political decision was right or not, but these people have become louder since.

I hope he gets to explain how sacking a British manager could work so well, then gets replaced by an immigrant who correctly predicts all ten scorelines and then goes all-out South Park shouting, "They tuk arr jobs!"

If we were looking for a new manager Silva would be on top of my wishlist. He's really impressed me and I think he's gonna be one of the greats.

The state of it but its hard to admit that in PL domestic players are carried by fgns and managers suck donkey balls.

The bit at the end when Stelling asks them to name the British managers is gold.

Boy, it's worse than I remembered. They're talking as if Premier League is a different sport. National pride is one thing, but to even think that managers at Napoli, Sevilla or Dortmund would jump at the opportunity to manage Hull?

I'll take a leaf out of Merse's book and yet safely claim I can talk more sense. The guy's fun but that's about it.

Can it go down to the wire like this? Would be nice (for the league, that is) if the entire bottom half were looking over their shoulder come judgment day.

Sunderland and Middlesbrough are already doomed, I feel.

I really hope that Hull stay up, but I have ties to Swansea as a club.

I thought Palace might have been safe after their win at Stamford Bridge and taking the lead against Southampton, but they have an incredibly difficult run-in on paper.

Knowing more or less Marco Silva from Sporting and Estoril it is nice to see he is being respected, but he still has an massive task to keep Hull lets not forget that away from home they only took 1 point, and that was at ... better not say nothing :D

They need at least more 8 points and the next 2 are at City and Stoke, at least they should take 1 maybe 2 points, it is risky for them to wait for the 3 points at home, it is good to remember they lost 2 points at home against Burnley, but still an good job, after all they sold Snodgrass and Livermore, and the majority of the new players are on loan, Niasse was the most hated one at Everton, Rannochia at Inter and Markovic at Liverpool, only for that he made good 6 months.

Wow! Unbelievable! Best drama ever
Could be quite similar this year, esp if Hull and Palace both go on a run. West Ham, Burnley, Bournemouth and even Stoke might get sucked into it.

Yup. The 'relative' difficulty of fixtures is similar for Hull and Palace, the latter having better players. Things will get interesting if both start winning. Palace might end deciding top four as well!

Still feel Boro are not done though. They have a match in hand and nice goal difference. The final fixtures against Chelsea, Saints and 'Pool might not be so bad if these three have achieved their objectives by then.

The key thing to determine 'easy' fixtures now is to realize what the opponent is playing for, which is why the three fixtures after City (Stoke away, Watford home, Southampton away) are vital for Hull. After that, there's Sunderland, who might be confirmed relegated by then, making that fixture slightly easier as well.

Nice run here and we're set for a virtual play-off between Palace and Hull on GW 37. Lip-smacking stuff

Very poor from Swansea. Had a chance to get out of relegation zone with Hull playing City. Ended up losing to West Ham. Still time to recover, but defeats like that crush resistance.

Boro still can't score. 0:0 with Burnley. At home. Holy feck guys..

Sets Palace up nicely for Arsenal at home. Get us out of sixth, will you Big Sam?

Hull did well today, I think they'll stay up looking at the fixtures they have coming up

Big Sam's at it again. Palace still have four home games after this (three very winnable) even if their away fixtures are probably the toughest of any team in the league. I actually wouldn't be too surprised if they reach the 40 points mark a week on Sunday at Anfield.

Swansea are in deep trouble and probably need 4 points from their next two games just to give themselves a chance.

Stoke are in dire form but their next four games are against the teams around them (Hull, Swansea, West Ham and Bournemouth). If there is going to be drama it'll probably be based on the results of those games.

Spot on mate. Swansea were very disappointing. They're fizzling out at a very bad time I'm afraid.

Big thank you to Big Sam. We're quite lucky that our game with Palace is on GW 38.

Over to Stoke now.

Ten-men-for-sixty-minutes Hull beat Watford and Swansea beat Stoke. Boro have started conceding as well now, losing 4:0 to Bournemouth. Pressure back on Palace, who play Liverpool and Spurs.

Go Tigers!

Posted this in Today's fixture thread:
Back from the KCOM, incredible result considering the circumstances. Bobby Maddley had an brilliant game last week at OT but gave us nowt today though the red card seemed to galvanise us. Markovic has been really good recently (feels dirty liking a dipper), Clucas' goal was brilliant and killed a very poor Watford side off.

Just have to match Swansea's results but a win against Sunderland on the 6th May at home might just keep us up.

This is getting ridiculous from Big Sam now. After Chelsea and Arsenal, Palace have beaten Liverpool too! Benteke with a double against his and our beloved Scousers

Eagles are definitely pulling it off, except they're doing it so soon it doesn't feel like a great escape. Thanks to them though, top four is in our sights again. On the other side, Burnley are nervously looking over their shoulder. Their next game? Against Palace.

16) Burnley 36 from 34
17) Hull 33 from 34
18) Swans 31 from 34

Big thank you to Big Sam! Thankfully(?) our match with Palace is on GW 38

Pressure back on Palace
I thought I made it clear some time ago, 'Super Sam Bionic Man' is on the case so no worries for Palace.

Seriously though, Allardyce has a habit of not only keeping clubs up but also throwing a spanner in the works of title chasing teams.
Palace up to 12th (with a game in hand over most the clubs around them) and Spurs at home midweek (I'd be a worried Spurs fan).

Swansea have given themselves a chance but need to follow it up with a result in one of the next two fixtures, United (A) and Everton (H).

You said it bro! The man should be named the "Winston Churchill of football." I used to call Harry Redknapp that but Allardyce deserves it even more.

Surely they won't beat Spurs though, will they?

I don't think they'll play a full strength team against Spurs, probably save key players for the game against Burnley.

So after beating Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, Palace lose to... Burnley. Meanwhile Swansea and Boro draw with the Manchester clubs. Nothing makes sense anymore, does it?

Big congratulations to Moyes and Sunderland. Thoroughly deserved. As a reward, they get to choose who goes down with them (Hull vs Sunderland and Sunderland vs Swansea). Good luck!

16) Palace 38 from 35 games
17) Hull 34 from 35
18) Swans 32 from 35

Upcoming fixtures:
Palace - Man City (A), Hull (H), Man Utd (H)
Hull - Sunderland (H), Palace (A), Spurs (H)
Swansea - Everton (H), Sunderland (A), West Brom (H)

My predictions:
Palace - 0,1,1 - (38 +2 = 40)
Hull - 3,1,0 - (34 + 4 = 38)
Swansea - 0,3,1 - (32 + 4 = 36)

Clement to go down.

Lot depends on Sunderland and the Palace vs Hull game. Palace did themselves no favours by losing the Burnley game and need to take the Hull game like a play-off.

Sunderland will play without pressure, which could lead to better performances. In any case, I agree that Swansea are the most likely to go down.

Hope it's CP who feck off but if it's gotta be one of Swans or Tigers, I'd rather have Tigers up.

Come on Hull, if they stay up Silva should get manager of the season award.

I'd definitely prefer Hull to stay up, at the expense of Swansea. Not only due to Swansea becoming somewhat of a thorn in our side in recent years, but the combination of Hull & Marco Silva could prove a very intriguing one, given the chance. They're almost like a throwback at the moment; A side of misfits thrown together through free transfers and loans, yet it seems to be working for them.
