FFSI can't bring myself to dislike the guy. He says so many arrogant things, but I can't help but feel like he's just a bit of an idiot who words things badly and says stupid things from time to time (admittedly it is quite often these days).

Hmm... So, essentially you're saying he's only quite good enough to help a mid-table club punch slightly below their weight and stay mid-table? Let's not forget all the awful transfer flops he endured at Everton and the years spent yo-yoing. He's grossly overhyped for what he did there (my opinion, so don't flame).

If they go down, I don't see him staying. He's got an over-inflated ego and a sense of entitlement and self-importance beyond anything. Also, the fans truly hate him now. The stadium sounded toxic and I can't see him retain the backing of the Board unless they miraculously start turning in exceptional performances (not going to happen). He's got a poor transfer record, so I don't see why the club should even trust him with funds. If they want to be back, the best way would be to get in a new man and start afresh (you have to wonder why they haven't done that mid-season given it's worked the past few seasons for them).
This. I can't get myself to feel sorry for him because each time he opens his mouth, there isn't even a modicum of realism, humility or contrition. It's all defeatist guff, appeals to higher powers (football gods???) and deflection. Sorry, doesn't cut muster. He's sh*te and I'm actually quite glad each time he loses. I've even reached a point now that I look forward to his spouting nonsense so that it justifies my contempt of him.
Sunderland have almost admitted that they havent got any funds available, which is probably why they havent sacked him yet.
I think he will stick with them in the championship and bring them up. You're right his ego will probably want to get out and manage a UCL side but i also think he knows he needs to salvage his image and prove hes a good manager... Which he can only really do by stabilising Sunderland as a PL club. Basically he needs to stick with a club long enough to do an Everton, which i think he accepts
I don't think he has it in him to get them back up again next season. Even Benitez is struggling, and he's actually a decent manager, Moyes is shite.

Woodward didn't hire him. It was done under Gill but it was pretty much Fergies decision

It's amazing that, in a career that has included turning Fergie's 2013 title winners into easybeats and, even by the atrociouly low standards at the Stadium of Light, stinking out Sunderland, it is only after that slap remark that he is now attracting some real criticism of his management style in the media (like Louise Taylor's piece on Sunday). He'll be gone before Christmas with Sunderland down near the bottom of the Championship. It will of course be someone else's fault.

Moyes always tries to imply he inherited a club in decline fro youth system all the way to first team. Time has proved him very wrong and teh one young player he had a stiffy over in Januzaj has been struggling greatly at bottom of the table club.

"Relief" is exactly the right word - I was certain he'd be in the job for years to come just to prove some point about "The United Way", so when the news suddenly came-out so strongly from all those sources indicating there was a briefing going on
