Politics at Westminster | BREAKING: UKIP

Here we go. Another campaign where everything is Europe's fault  now with added Corbynness

You have to admire the Tories. When the negotiations turn into a disaster, the voters won't know who to blame. This is essentially a vote for hard brexit.

Don't know why "Pound tumbling" came up on my news feed.

It tumbled a little when the news first broke. It created some uncertainty in the market, as no one knew for sure what the statement would be about and there was some worry it was something bad.

Its rebounded now.

Lots of people at our work are eating that there's questions about her health. Are those rumours from just the uncertain hour after the statement was announced?

"More gruel?"
"Yes please, sir."

It will be a massive Tory majority as everything is still pretty steady and they will fool everyone into think the future will be hunky dory. Also Labour is run by a wet blanket.

Yep. Was just speculation as no one knew for sure what the statement was about.

The fecking gall of these people to call for an election after shitting the bed so thoroughly on negotiations.
This isn't that, she's putting down the cards for the Tories to stay in power for a long time.

Everyone keeps saying there is no way negotiations will be done in 2 years. By winning the GE now, she'll have 5 years to negotiate brexit, negotiate the free trade agreement, and deal with the fallout.

If you have a pro-EU stance... we're fecked basically.

Her logic is basically that she can't negotiate under a parliamentary system and she wants unquestionable authority. That's scary

Labour have to hit back hard now and give people something they can get behind or we're all fecked. Work with the SNP, work with the Lib Dems.

Lib Dems I guess?

Yep looks that way. To be honest where I live in Cheltenham I can see the Tories losing their seat to them. We were Lib Dem for a while before the last election and it's a two horse race between them. They'll almost certainly get my vote.

It absolutely was. I can't believe that the PM of this country standing in front of number 10 reading out a love letter to authoritarianism is where we are now. :(

Will be a Tory comfortable victory.

Labour and Lib Dems are both now showing themselves in a strong position right now. Which is shame because I quite like being in Europe, not being ignorant of others issues, the NHS, having schools actually have some funding.. Yeah.. i'll miss that.

The elections weren't due until 2020 anyways so the Brexit timeline probably has little to do with this. It seems like she is capitalizing when the labor is in turmoil and squeezing home the advantage for the Tories. There is however the lovely albeit minute chance this could blow up in her face like it did for Cameron with the referendum.

I can see the logic in this from goverment and Tory Party perspectives (secure a specific mandate for Brexit, kick Labour in the bollocks) but it makes May look like even more a u-turning bellend who you can't trust to tell you the time. I never thought I'd say this but she's looking more of a chancer than Cameron was.

The good news is that Corbyn is gone by June 9th. Whatever happens next it is clear the Labour Party need a new leader.

But everyone keeps saying that negotiating Brexit in 2 years is impossible, especially with the EU demanding that things are done in order and not all at once. If we spend a year agreeing on the divorce fee, that doesn't leave much time at all for everything else.
