Top 4 race 2016/17

Predict the wheels will come for Spurs, they gave it everything in the FA cup game and still it didn't work out for them. I can see United and Arsenal getting a few points off them now.

It's going to be a great run in! Win against City in the week and the confidence and momentum will be there, Liverpool will be shitting it.

It would be fun for a bit, but truth is you want as many PL teams to qualify as possible: 1) coefficients, 2) keeping them also busy with groups, Chelsea wouldn't be so out of reach with two games a week and imagine how much farther Liverpool would be with all the extra injuries and tiredness that comes with playing more than 2-3 times a month.
they will be just as busy... if not more busy in the EL.

They are still finishing second though.

It has been changed now so that five teams from one country can participate if such a scenario arises.

I believe the only way for a team to miss out by finishing fourth now would be if a team wins the Champions League and finishes fifth or lower and a team from the same country wins the Europa League and also finishes fifth or lower.

eg:

1st Chelsea
2nd Spurs
3rd Liverpool
4th Man City
5th Man Utd (Won Europa League)
6th Arsenal (Won Champions League  )

City would then miss out.
Leicester would've been the better example. :P

I still think the race for the top will go to the wire.

Think Palace after their win at Anfield may just take their foot off the gas and allow Spurs just that more time to allow their quality players to perform.

Utd still have a good chance to make top 4.

it's turning out to be an interesting season.

13 points out of 18 would see us sat on 76 points, and in all probability just about inside the top four. So that's four wins, a draw and a loss, if my bad maths is correct.

Our points per game would just about see us through, but it's such a rotten fixture list. I know every side can say the same sort of thing, but if just two of those (12!) silly draws were turned into wins then we'd be in a fantastic position, even with our upcoming fixtures.

I disagree
Arsenal are too far off the pace to get top 4
They'll end up in 6th place
Lol, they are not. United and City played one game extra over Arsenal. IF they continue to battle and win games, they are not out of it.

Thursdays are an arse, but the level of CL rivals is more demanding. It may be a case of potato potatoe but CL also pretty much guarantees they have games after the Winter break (CL or EL).

Its much easier to play Tuesday Saturday Wednesday Sunday than Sunday Thursday Sunday Thursday. Plus EL has more games and has more teams further away from England. Its way more gruelling IMO

Can't see Liverpool winning out the rest of their matches. As winnable as those matches are, they just don't strike me as having the squad right now to handle it without a hiccup. So we will need more than 76 points assuming they go 3-1-1 rest of way. Can we do 4-2-0 or 5-1-1 with our schedule? Hopefully Spurs have completely fallen apart in the next few weeks and will play the second string.

I have no hope for that Spurs game unless they decide to go to a full meltdown as last season which I find it hard to happen 2 seasons in a row. They'll probably be still fighting for second place and I can't find a way for us to defeat them on their home so here's a predictable loss.

Other matches are very winnable away from next derby. Arsenal is very beatable if you played them the right way, and the other 3 matches against South, Swansea and Palace MUST be a win really.

So let's see what will happen in City game, we can go for either 6-0-1 or 5-1-1 with some concentration at this period.

I forgot they have 2 games in hand also. So they'll be following the same league schedule as us, i.e. our match is now the 3rd to last for both teams.

Barring 2 games of dropped points in the next 3, you are correct, they'll probably still be fighting for the title when we play given their GD. It's not impossible to see them slipping though - next 3 are Palace away, home to Arsenal, and West Ham away.

Liverpool I think will drop 5 points off their remaining 4 games. That puts them on 73 points. That would leave us needing 11 points off 6 games. 3 wins, 2 draws and a loss. I think given the games on paper that's still a tall order. If we beat City I think we'll do it though I'd actually take a draw there and fancy we could get something off Arsenal or Spurs.

City have fairly straight forward games even if we beat them they will still make it. Arsenal I think are coming 6th.

Well I didn't notice that. Chelsea should win all his next games up till the week when we play Spurs so if Spurs fall in anyone of his next 3 games it'll probably over for them. If Palace keeps on their recent form that game can be tricky but they should defeat West ham easily and in fact, they're favourite to defeat Arsenal unless Wenger unleashes the beast inside him to save his new contract. :D

Hard to predict their situation when we play them but I'm sure they'll fight their heart either for the title or the second place and that makes me pessimistic about this match.

They've Man Utd at home and Spurs and Stoke away...no chance

Arsenal are done for. Keeping the Cup Final respectable, smuggling out Fawlty's new contract is the way forward for them.

City will do it. Utd's games are still pretty horrible even if this weekend went as well as possible and we beat Chelsea last week, I understand the optimism but...

Watford is key for Liverpool - they'll get 7 from the other 3 at least.

While City and United play each other...

United also got Spurs away, Arsenal away, Relegation fighters Swansea and Southampton...so that's like saying United have NO chance either...

City can actually win all their remaining games after United, but this is City. They can make things hard for themselves.

And Liverpool definitely haven't clinched top 4 yet. Anything can happen.

All I'm saying is Arsenal's late winning run is overdue. They just got 2 wins in a row now, which they failed to get since Jan.

Liverpool need to win 4/4 games can they?
Its getting interesting, if we beat swansea, pressure on pool. Think unless we drop points to swansea this goes to last game of the season.

We need other teams to drop points. City are one point behind us, & United two points, both each with a game to play.

12 points would almost certainly be enough, but I think 10 would do it...

Either way, it's the first time it's been out of our hands for ages.

If Jose sets us up against Spurs and Arsenal the same way he did against City, we can forget 4th. We're going to need to win at least one of those games.

Jose' record against Arsene has me very confident about that one.

I think he'll fancy our chances to beat Arsenal

I will settle for 13 of 15 points and hoping that will be enough.

Don't think we will make it but at least 13 we probably need.

I think they will drop points in one game, possibly two.

I think we will drop points in two games. Maybe two draws or maybe a draw and a loss.

It's absolutely up for grabs now.

Put Swansea away on Sunday, and for the first time in seeming memory for this season Liverpool are outside the top 4 and under big pressure to get back in.

We've shown that we don't find it particularly easy at home this season, but after tonight's absolute slog, we should at least have the ball, and be the dominant team. It's only been the games on one hand this season where we haven't.

I still can't see us getting the job done since we didn't win tonight. I can't see us realistically get anything more than 4 points from Spurs/Arsenal away. Probably less.

Aside from that, it would be typical of us to drop points against one of the "easier" matches. Southampton away, for instance.

So we need Liverpool or City to drop points. Probably in more than one match.

More likely Swansea this Sunday. Can easily see that being another 1-1.

Agree with you that we'll get 4 points from Spurs and Arsenal, and probably lose points against Southampton as well. Liverpool will drop points in one of their games, but it still won't be enough.

All eyes on the Europa trophy from hereon and out!
