Jose is making a squad of warriors!

A lot has been said about Mourinho's treatment of his players but I don't see a lot wrong. He sees a lot more behind the scenes than us and he is the best one to judge.

If you're not pulling your weight (Shaw, Martial), he calls you on it. If you are not pushing yourself enough (Smalling, Jones), he calls you on it. Shaw and Martial have reacted positively which is great to see and tbh I hope Smalling and Jones do the same.

I can see Mourinho adding more players this summer that have a fighting mentality and we will see a very United team that will fight tooth and nail in every match which has similarities to Ferguson's last title winning squad. They were not the most technically gifted squad in the league but the fought and fought in every game which got us over the edge.

Thoughts?

LVG / Moyes sees a lot more behind the scenes than us and he is the best one to judge.

We have been far to soft since saf left . Rooney and carrick are probably the last of the serial winners left at the club and it looks like one or both will be leaving at the end of the season.

That really leaves me worried with our current mentality .
As I have said before in other threads it's no coincidence the same players keep getting injured and are no use to us .
Why can't Phil jones pick up a 24 hour bug or something instead of always being out for months .
Is this guy made of balsa wood or something .
Smalling is turning into the same as jones . I'm all for mourinho publicly outing these players and sorting out our mentality .
We needed more from martial and looking at Sunday's game then it's clearly worked as he worked his balls off .
The talent he has is ridiculous but can you really see him winning us a game away from home going off his form pre burnley ?
Martial this season as only looked decent when we have been on top and rarely appears when the going as got tough .
I do sympathise a little with Shaw as he has come back from a horrific injury but Shaw himself as admitted he's not been pulling up any trees .
Let Jose motivate us any way he sees fit and let's out and rid all the pussys once and for all .

This is what Jose demands, he demands 1000% commitment but he also likes big strong players who can and more importantly will run through walls for him. He doesn't deal with whingers and players who don't do it. Its either adapt, grow a pair and put team above all else or else he'll ship them out. He did it at Chelsea, Inter and Real so he'll do it with you guys. Its why for example he prefers a Fellaini to a half arsed Martial. Martial, Shaw etc.. will either step up or he'll ship them out. Next season or the season after you will be tall, strong, hardworking and very, very hard to stop.

Who would you have played in Fellainis place?
I'd have got rid of him last summer. I'd have kept Schneiderlin and/or Schweinsteiger who are much better footballers or brought in a new midfielder if I was so underwhelmed by all 3.

But then I clearly don't value warriors as much as I should.

Yeah Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger aren't known for their tough tackling...

You didn't answer the question.

Fellaini taking the warrior statement a bit too literally.

But your question was a bit loaded. In terms of the eleven tonight our midfield options were limited because (in the theme of the thread) our manager seems to be keen on the warrior qualities of Fellaini.

So what you're saying is, you would have played him too due to lack of options. Got it.

I'm not even sure how your failure to comprehend things got you there.
Perhaps if you answered the question it would enlighten me. But you won't do that will you, because toy know what the answer will be. The two midfielders we got rid of fit the profile you are bemoaning, yet you wanted to keep them, go figure.

Is it only me who thought we just got completely outplayed? csll me old fashioned but I hate that sort of football.

Really? I wouldn't even consider Fellaini as a proper midfielder in the way the other 2 are.

We were terrible to watch but it done the job. We got a Point and we didn't lose. Positives.... I guess.

Sorry I forgot you don't speak England good.
And he continues with the mindless insults, you're pretty poor at deflecting aren't you? Here's a quick tip: we can all still see the previous posts you've made, they're just a short scroll away!

Why is that funny? You can think we need to be tougher, without agreeing that public humiliation is the way to go about achieving it.

It's not humiliation when he criticises a grown man on hundreds of thousands of pounds a week when asked how he is performing. It's the truth and I'm sick of seeing Moyes and LVG come out and wrap our average performing players in cotton wool. It was pathetic and this has been a long time coming.

You're acting like these players are children. They're employed to do a job on outrageous amounts of money.

He will slowly throw the soft lads out and buy players like Bailey

We've had a bunch of pussies playing for us for a while now so I'm all for helping them man up.

I don't like to use the word "pussies", but that is exactly the word which I was using repeatedly last season.
Our players were nice guys who you could invite to your grand mothers' home for dinner and the evening would be calm, nice and quiet.
I wanted battlers...some dirty players who could do the nasty things and win games the ugly way, if required.
Last season Herrera got carried off the pitch by an opponent. I'd never seen that before in a football match. We were pussies, personified.
This season, I honestly don't see that sort of thing happening.

Wow, you are special. If you are able to scroll up I'm sure you could understand that I said I'd have kept Schneiderlin or Schweinsteiger ahead of Fellaini last summer. You immediately tried to deflect with some waffle about their 'tough tackling' being the same as Fellaini. Can you enlighten me with examples of when they made two stupid tackles in a minute and then headbutted someone?[/QUOTE]

Based on the responses in this thread, there seems to be this prevailing falsehood that by building a team of " warriors" we are becoming stoke 2.0 and not building a team of actual footballers when they couldn't be far from the truth. We brought in Baily, Zlatan, Pogba and Mhkhi--all players with great all around ability to contribute in the buildup of the attack, but without any ability to finish(yet) and that has reflected our overall team performance because we have created a lot more chances this season. We are nothing like Stoke. Nothing. But if we want to be winners, then must build a team culture who want to play hard every game in every moment of the game, even when we are down because such qualities can be the barrier from winners and losers. Look at Chelsea, who are set to win their 2nd title in three seasons. Look at Leicester City from last year.

I understand Moyes but, people are really going to make Van Gaal out like he was a soft touch? Read what the likes Romario, Lucio, Luca Toni, Mark Van Bommel, etc have to say about Van Gaal. He has had a long reputation as a madman. Just last season people here were wondering if his strictness was stifling the creativity of our players but, now we have an entire different narrative about what is wrong with the squad.

I would really like to see Smalling and Jones sold and replaced with two tougher defenders.

Maybe a 2 for 1 deal is possible.. get 1 quality defender who stays fit most of the season and lose 2 decent defenders who have never been fit for a full season.

A player like prime John Terry would be nice..

Did you know, that we lost a grand total of 4 (edit: actually 6) times in all competitions (not counting any second leg lost when the final outcome is a win). We may not be winning games, but we are definitely not losing them.

I don't know if "warriors" is the right word but I can see a great team spirit the like of which we haven't had since Sir Alex retired.

Good points, but I also remember him completely shielding various players in our team when they played badly. He protected Rooney so much, and I know he was 'doing the job I'm asking him to do' as LVG said, but lets face it, especially last season, Rooney was rubbish and LVG would pander to him, and even accommodate him in midfield to keep playing him. It was poor man management in the end as he got nothing out of it, Rooney didn't raise his game, he relaxed, knowing he will play every game. I love the idea of dropping him until he is deemed good enough to play again, I bet he's training harder than ever right now to try get back in the team.

Playing him in midfield did not "accommodate" him and people forget he was one of our better players during Van Gaal's first season even though he spent half of it in midfield in attempt to figure out how to play him Falcao and RVP at the same time. And he could have been tough on Rooney behind close doors. There was that famous shouting match between them on the sidelines one match.
