Fabinho

Better than Carrick and Scholes when we won the CL? None of them are.

Better than Scholes not, better than Carrick in his current state yes

Point being how can somebody take their nose up to players like Naingolan, Khedira or Matuidui when we barely had midfielders of the same class as that. If Fabinho belongs in that category, sign him up because that means he is good enough for us. We are not going to end up getting the likes of Kroos or Verratti despite what people may want.

I would take Herrera, peak Fletcher and peak Carrick over those 3.

Herrera, no overrated
Fletcher massively overrated
Peak Carrick is in the same category and peak Carrick was 5 years ago

Point being Fabinho is more than good enough for Manchester United

You take everything too seriously mate. :)

I am thinking about what's good for the team. I don't want people to think that an 18 year old guy will be able to lead our attacking line-up and then those same people will start moaning if he can't handle that pressure. :)

I thought he's taller that Bakayoko, but last night I seen them in block-wall together and they were pretty much the same height but that dude Bakayoko was twice as wide.

So Wiki and that other transfer site says Fabinho is 188 cm whilst Bakayoko is 184. Who's bullshitting?

Tho Fabinho is a hunchback, that probably takes some cm's off.

Well, when you put it that way, it does sound worrying.

It compares Mbappe with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo at 18. You may want to throw in Rashford in there to see how he compares.

I like the bit about how Fergie did everything he could to buy Ronaldo as the most expensive teenager because he saw a glimpse of what he could become. What a buy he turned out to be!

Mr. Wenger of course, missed the chance. He was probably counting the shillings.

Well yeah, but not better than Carrick ten years ago, which is what you said.

What do people think about William Carvalho as an alternative? He's reportedly available for under £30m this summer.

Nope. There's a reason no other big club has taken him, he's been whored out to every club in Europe and not many fancy him. Hasn't really progressed since 3 years ago and TBH he's not that great, just a big presence.

Okay mate, you know football better than me. :)

I've not really seen much of him so I can't really compare. But from what I've seen, Carvalho appears to be technically superior with a better passing range, while also having ability to run forward with the ball. However, I'm not too sure about his defensive abilities.

Dont know specifically about Fabinho, i only saw him few times.
But the "hype" is based in the opinion of French members like JPRouve who really watch him in France and people following Monaco since some players were linked.

But there's an annoying tendency here: a LOT of people sound like those fans from non-footballer countries who can't really understand football and tend to take absurd definitive conclusions game by game about players.

HYPERBOLE: " my dream was United signing MSN, but after their poor display against Juventus, i dont think Messi-Suarez-Neymar are good enough".

I think the ultimate example of the KNOW-NOTHING-SPECIALIST is when you see some here TRASHING POGBA comparing him with INFERIOR MIDFIELDERS from Real and Barca.
(You should go to Real Madrid and Barca forum and watch what they say the majority of time about those players you guys think are better than Pogba).

He won't be in his prime for those 4 years, and you seriously think Real Madrid will pay that much?
In 2021? If he becomes what we all seem to think he will become, of course

For those criticizing Fabinho, this is his is first season playing in midfield. He is traditionally a RB, and at 23, is not surprising that there are still weaknesses in his game. The value in Fabinho is in his potential.

What I personally like about Fabinho is that he seems to have a high football iq making him very adaptable to tactics and positional changes. I expect him to really bloom under Mourinho who is probably the best at organizing a team defensively.

Danilo Pereira and N'Zonzi are the best two alternatives to Fabinho, in my view. All three are tall, strong, protect the space in front of the defence very well and have good close-control/press-resistance. Admittedly, none offer the passing range of Carrick.

and I can give you a longer list of players that never lived up to their teenage hype.

Most relevant is that none of those players were sold at the astronomical price that is being rumored for Mbappe.

I'm sure I don't know football more than you do.

Just in a light mood really. Your points make sense a lot.

The link is interesting and relevant to our chat so I thought you may want to read it. Wasn't trying to justify my position with it.

I think N'Zonzi would be perfect for us. Danilo Pereira is a bit limited with the ball at his feet imo and would cost a lot more than he's worth. Perhaps a cheaper option would be in someone like Guilavogui, though I'm not sure how well he's performing this season.

Considering we've won titles with cleverly and Anderson bossing the midfield he sure is.

So is this guy a fullback or defensive mid?
He was a rightback up until this season, and was good enough in that role that some on here wanted him bought in as our new rightback.

This season he was moved into a defensive midfielder role, and the hype about him as continued to increase.

I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen him (or the rest of Monaco players we are linked to) play, so I'm going purely on what I've read others say.

Thanks - will have to check YouTube

I'd be interested to hear which countries you think are "non-footballer"?

Kroos would be my muppet midfield signing this summer. I've always thought he was a United kind of player who would handle the pressure of expectation.
Him and Herrera as midfield duo, with Pogba up?

Or overestimated?
Only if you come here expecting to read logical discussions. But if you come here with the hope of reading something that'll make you chuckle and shake your head in disbelief, believe me you'll never be disappointed. ;);)

I was for signing N'Zonzi from Stoke and I also think Pereira would be a good buy so with you on these options @Infra-red

Think the guy works for SER.

Anyway says City are close to signing Fabinho.

That would be shit. He's a cracking player. :(

Yeah that sucks, was hoping he would be the player we sign.

I guess he's the perfect player for Pep's fullback/DM hybrid so it's not surprising.

You never know though things can change quickly, we might try to rival who knows.

Think the guy works for SER. Could be wrong though.

He doesnt have a verified account and doesnt say SER on his account anywhere. I also am skeptical about a spanish journo knwing something about atransfer of a brazillian player from france to England.
