Should Arsenal sack Wenger

This could be the game that saves Wengers job.

First competitive win against Jose. Definitely signs of progress.

I think the new contract will be announced soon.
If this happens Jose is a genius.

An own goal and a flukey header lucky to go in from off-target on the bar. I wouldn't call it progress against Mourinho setting up not to score.

Still think top 4 is gone for them. Compared to Liverpool, they would need to win both matches in-hand to catch up and they'd still be 1 point behind. They definitely aren't catching City anymore IMO. They also still need to win their next game in order to overtake Utd.

Only good thing about the day - Wenger in:drool:

Guardian:

Arsène Wenger has poured scorn on the work of directors of football in the modern game and made it plain that he would not be prepared to work with one at Arsenal.

“I don’t know what director of football means,” Wenger said. “It is somebody who stands in the road and directs play right and left? I don’t understand and I never did understand what it means.”

Wenger shut down a question about any restructuring. “No, no, no. Sorry, no. I’m not prepared to talk about that,” he said. “I’m the manager of Arsenal football club and as long as I’m manager of Arsenal football club I will decide what happens on the technical front. That’s it.”

This are not the words of a man that is going anywhere.

Nice.

Ozil and Sanchez will leave than.

Freaking Pep should of waited for the arsenal job

Not going to lie, I am cheering Arsenal run in the last few games.

Hope they get into the top 4 at the expense of Liverpool, and WengerIn confirmed.

They spent £87M last summer. Backing wasn't the problem. The problem was the shite they spent it on.

The smirking twonk is going to pull off the Harrods version of a relegation escape for the nth year running. 'Arsene knows', my bum.

EDIT: not literally.

I'd give him a high seat and go with someone like Eddie howe. If it does not work then give him the job again.

I don't think arsene is bad and in this day and age top 4 is a trophy due to finances; but I think he should consider if he has taken arsenal as far as he can and provide a back up if anything goes bad.

Sounds like a fantasy but he is undoubtedly their greatest ever manager and he should really thinking about leaving whilst people are still appreciative.

but I think he should consider if he has taken arsenal as far as he can

I think he reached that point many many years ago but he obviously still thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread, long may he continue.

Can't take Wenger's comments seriously even if some may feel he has a point. If Arsenal were better and safely in the top four, the amount of effort teams put in at this stage of the season wouldn't be significant.

I think his change of formation is extremely canny. Hides the weaknesses (Ozil's workrate, the shiteness of Xhaka & Coquelin) extremely well now this 3-4-2-1. Should he have taken this long to get there, I'm not sure. Probably not.

Should he have his team properly ready for the 1st game of the season & not losing 3-4 to Liverpool? Definitely. Looks like a schoolboy error now, that's for sure.

He has to go sooner or later, they may as well do it now. Of course, the modern Premier League doesn't work like that, the probable hope of getting 4th next year with a 'safe pair of hands' says they will get him to stay if they think they can get away with it.

His faults have got worse & more obvious through the last 6-7 years Still thinks they have the best team playing the purest form of football, his players have unlimited potential that he will unleash unless the Gods conspire against him, other teams have no right to try & compete or get decisions, terrible loser. He sent the fans the same & they might do for him. Win the Cup, he's probably OK, they can all bullshit on about next year (again).

Surely that could be levelled at Arsenal's weekend opponents Stoke as well? While you can never take any game for granted in the Premier League, these types of results are likely to happen against teams that have little of note to fight for at the back end of the season.

Or a team with a cup final to face ?

I hope this is true ie Usmanov and I hope Wenger fecks off as a result, that alone will be like winning the league for me. Sick of the sight of him, everything he does he fails at. Can't even fecking zip up his coat properly.

He clearly does not have the best interests of the club at heart otherwise he'd left by now.

kreonke will not accept it. Don't bother raising your hopes. The offer values Arsenal at just over 1.6bn. Stan will definitely feel Arsenal are more valuable than that.

He apparently already turned the offer down but its actually very generous. Kroenke's total investment into Arsenal has only been estimated to be 424M which means the 1BN more than doubles his investment, a great deal from investment. More worryingly for Kroenke in the short term is Arsenal shares have been fairly flat the last 3-4 years. But Kroenke has a thing about collecting sports clubs like some bizarre serial killer collecting trophies so sadly I doubt he will sell.

Interesting Tony Adams comments on coaching not being one of Wengers strong points. Although Adams is a useless coach so I can understand why Arsene didnt want him on his staff. Still interesting nonetheless, I always earmarked that as a positive for young players coming to arsenal.

This is a curious remark by Wenger. I wonder if he's referring to something upsetting behind the scenes rather than the obvious (the hostile enviroment due to fans' protests & general discontent)?:

Arsene Wenger said:
"I believe that since January we played in a very difficult environment for different reasons. Some you know about – and it is very difficult for the group of players to cope with that – and [there are] some other reasons we will talk about another day. But the psychological environment for the group of players was absolutely horrendous."

Christ, he's losing the plot. He's been underwhelming for years now but I don't remember a season from him where he's come out with such bollocks before. From saying Chelsea's title isn't as impressive because they don't dominate possession to claiming his technical department is at fault for them not making the top 4.

My respect for Wenger has diminished year on year for a variety of reasons, but mainly because of his detachment from the fans. Arsenal is his personal project, he feels, and even the club's deterioration won't stop him playing with his toy. Oh and then there's the whole refusing to endanger owners'/shareholders' profits by spending unless absolutely necessary thing; board and manager are hand-in-glove on this matter regardless of deceptive public statements.
