Does anybody else think Smalling & Jones get too much stick?

Jose will keep telling them they are doing a great job as he knows he needs them for next wednesday
but one of them will be leaving in summer i hope it's both if we can get one english replacement

They have both regressed big time, Jose's teams are built around strong defence and in most games this season we have lost or lost goals Smalling has played - Jones is made of glass, then again so was Evans and he seems to be doing great at West Brom so does Jose persists with him?

I remember once we had Rafael, Evans, Smalling and Jones as our defenders who never seems to be fit and usually almost always out at the same time. Two already been sold but miraculously they seem to be able to stay fit for their new clubs.

To me, Smalling and Jones should also be sold to stop our yearly defensive crisis problem once and for all.

Our yearly defensive injury crisis already cost us dearly which we lost some league title and Top 4 position with 1 or two points difference. The margin was very small.

For club as big as Man Utd, enough is enough. No matter how good they are they can't be trusted and we have to address the problem to ensure next season we have proper squad to challenge for the league and CL.

Will be Blind and Smalling, spooky

I'll go for Smalling and Blind too. Jones is likely to give a penalty away and both Smalling and Blind have built their partnership from last season.

However I must say both of them need to leave in order for us to move. But if we can't buy a new centre back then I reckon sell Jones first and keep Smalling since he had some good seasons with us while Jones has been meh and spent most of his time with our medical staffs.

I think the final will be Smalling/Blind also, but any combination of Smalling/Jones/Blind/Darmian wouldn't surprise me either.

As far as offseason movement, I would say the opposite because Smalling seemingly hasn't adapted to what Jose wants while Jones has done better and might be considered more salvageable. I think Jose will dispense of both because in the end Smalling can't pass and Jones is made of glass.

In terms of raw ability, I'd say Jones is our best defender, probably only after Bailly, he's very talented. Problem is he can't stay fit, which is why I see him being moved on. Smalling as a back-up option is still a decent player.

He is still too reactive and reliant on pace to get him out of trouble for my liking, but Jose may think that he can iron that and some of his fitness issues out. I think Smalling is on a far shorter leash because his passing is way below par for the needs of a top club and his age means that we need to sell now for a better price, and Jose definitely cares about sale prices of his castoffs.

If anything, they have been getting away with too much because they are English. I hope we get rid of Jones, he just can't be relied upon, too injury-prone and we can free up his wages to get a better player.

Smalling is really getting a beating around here, even more so than Jones. Am I the only who think he's not that bad?

And just a season ago people here were calling Smalling one of the best defenders in the league and wanted Rojo sold.

Always kind of liked Jones. Injuries have runied his development otherwise I think he would have been a class defender but there's still time for him.

Smalling however is quite an average centre half and United can do so much better.

I'am very annoyed by the fact we have to count on both of them for the most important game of our season. Don't rate them at all and that is even if they are fit, both are simply clueless when on a football pitch.

Foolish people. I always said Rojo was a much better player than Smalling. It's obvious when watching both of them play.

Too much stick?

Any other major club they would have been hounded off and shipped to somewhere.

In here we got a thread saying they're the best england have to offer, a nice contract, a no pressure get well and get into form taking as many months and game as you like.

If any we're not ruthless enough when it comes to economy class passengers along the years. Normally these passengers offers something in the form of being an adequate backup, but even that is too much to ask with their non stop being injured
