Juventus - Real Madrid (CL Final)

Ronaldo will carry any team along with him and be the difference maker of that team with Messi same can't be said.
So where was CR7 when Lyon were knocking Madrid out in the Round of 16? or when Dortmnud white washed Madrid in the semis?

Having Modrić, one of the best midfielders if not the best in the world right now, would certainly help, yeah.

Modric and Ronaldo had faced each other in the Euro so while both are important I think Ronaldo contributions are more valuable (in his current form where he can't stop scoring).

Both had a bad game in Euros.

But he had Di Maria and Ozil.

Only the 1986 Argentina and 86/87 Napoli could be said to have been carried to success by a lone player (Maradona)
Football and Philosophies have evolved since than due to being result buisness and a very strong financial source.

Football has become tougher.

Dotes and antidotes have been found by cyruffs lvgs Bryan robsons fergies lippis and mourinho s an peps to nullify the effects of best players in a more cohesive team game.
Its actually more difficult to nullify such players in the modern game.

Defenders had much more liberty back then and were able to get away with some really terrible stuff.

No it's easier with better Philosophies and principles.

Yeah, I'm sure. Ronaldo didn't even have to beat a man, or control the ball to score today. Nobody marking him, nobody making him control the ball or even blocking his shot. Dose principles huh?

Shows why he is considered the best because he's so quick and aware to find pockets of free spaces and make devestating runs in them to receive a pass.

Ronaldo is largely in effective in a game against barcelona because of their Philosophy.

Philosphies and principles are of little use when the rules and officiating are stacked against defending.

Football governing bodies have taken considerable pains to ensure that attacking players are more protected now than ever before. An example is Herrera being sent off cos the ref though the entire team was fouling Hazard too often. Another is Ujfalusi being banned for 2 games for a hard tackle on Messi. Also attacking player risk only a yellow card for diving while defenders can potentially be sent off if the ref falls for it.

Little use? It's of greater use now more than ever. The space and time for an attacking player is lesser and leaser. Philosophies which don't give the ball to opposition players automatically reduces the impact they can have in a game because of the time on the ball is reduced via safe back and side passing . The defensive organization is way better , high press and gegenpress reduces players anf teams abilities with the ball with lesser space and time. Even top players under by high pressure loose the ball quickly if he goes too direct and may end up as a scale goat for conceeding a goal. Teams play out from the back to keep extra possession and be dominant at it which forces the players. To get tired and be vunrable in positioning. Bus parking and wingers contribute Defensively to deny man advantage and space.

The game has evolved a lot more since than.

So Juventus play defensively throughout the CL and get to the final. Then they decide they should attack in the final? Allegri had a shocker. Real Madrid are so lethal counter attacking and are lethal with wing play.

Juventus didn't look at all threatening offensively and I've heard lots of Juve fans claim Dybala to be better than Messi the past few days. Maybe Juventus should have tried a 1 match loan for MSN for this final :D.

Let's hope someone gives some serious competition to Real next season as they seem unbeatable in these types of games currently. Barca seem like the only team that can beat them so if they fix their midfield and get a new RB and GK they'd be set.
Dybala didn't have such an amazing season overall, tbh. He only scored those famous goals against Barca.

Real Madrid leads 3:1 and Ramos still manages to be a diving cnut, that was terrible, feck Real Madrid and feck Ramos.

Had 3-1 Ronaldo first goal scorer at 50/1 with a tenner.. 89th minute... useless pricks!

Think Juventus played a very open game. They were much more compat against Barcelona. Think they were far too open in this match. Just had to put a person on Ronaldo and had to be less adventurous. Juve don't have any real attacking threat apart from Dybala. They are a countering team and yesterday they tried to play a bit like Real.

Still, it is very difficult to defend against this Real team. I am glad we don't have to face them.

This tactic worked in the first half, then they run out of fuel.

The 2nd half was brutal, something wrong clearly happened at half time with communication between the manager and the players. They were willing to limit Real for 20 minutes and go for the kill at the very end but out of steam and were blown away. No shame, though. Again, congrats to Real and see you next year or later, I think our six years cycle ended yesterday, so enter rebuilding is going to be the way.

Should have said that people from certain countries speak a very good english.
That makes more sense but I wouldn't really include Germany on that list. I spent a number of years in Germany when I was younger and rarely found anyone fluent in English. In my experience Norway, Denmark and Holland all have a very large percentage of English speakers; Holland especially.

That's for sure.

I dont think its this. Madrid have too many variations of attacking compared to Barcelona. But even then, Barcelona missed some good chances too. Monaco aswell missed a few chances in the semi.

I feared that Madrid would score a couple because this Juventus defence was overrated for me. Its a bit like when a small team goes to a big team and get battered for 90 minutes but escapes with a clean sheet. You hear commentators saying how it was such a great defensive performance when in reality it was bad finishing.

Of course it is. Comparing Juventus and Madrid defense or comparing say Bonucci and Ramos is like comparing apples and oranges. The systems are completely different. The one Juventus uses will hide CB's weaknesses due to the lack of space in the middle that it creates, while the one Madrid uses will emphasize them.

One would need to put those Juventus CB's in this Madrid team to see just how good they are. I'm sure we'd only find out that Ramos is a better defender and a more influential figure on the pitch, simply a better footballer then any one of them.

Right, Cristiano - you've done all you can for Madrid. Now come home, please!
