Plus they need to get rid of dead weight, like Vermaelen, Turan, & other loanees plus Deloufeu (still not sure why they bought him back from Everton - maybe they thought someone was going to buy for more than what they paid a la Moratta/RM 2016?).
Again it's not about Herreras discipline it's about his winning ariel duels, his strength and possibly his ability to drop in between the cbs.
Put it this way Carrick would probably play just as much as Herrera in DM if we only signed a number 8.

Again I'll repeat, look at how few if any leaks are actually coming out of United. We just pulled one of the biggest transfers ever without a soul knowing. Then look at all the failed transfers that are linked to us by this clueless reporters.
Unless its an obvious United brief, I refuse to believe people that have consistently proven how little they know.
I wish people will stop suggesting Herrera as a DM. Yes he can play the role but it is so limiting for such a guy who is actually very good going forward. He was not a DM in Spain and has not primarily played as a DM for United. His best moments for us have been when he has been allowed to move box to box or man mark a dangerous opponent. In the former (and even latter like in the Chelsea game) he produced match winning assists. Jose has used him brilliantly so far. Herrera has been the guy defending for Pogba and attacking for Carrick while serving as a back up DM when needed. Tying him down permanently to a DM role will seriously limit him if you ask me. Also, when you observe Herrera carefully, you will notice that compared to the attacking side of his game, his defending is average. He is a very good tackler no doubt but defending is a whole lot more than tackling.
Where we have no choice, sure, I will play Herrera in a DM role and he will do a decent job. But if I can get a specialist DM, that will be my first option.
Ancelotti prefers Robben and Ribery and Costa seems to have had some attitude issues over his playing time.

People always slam Perisic with stats but seem to excuse Costa. 50 appearances for Bayern and only 8 goals. 141 appearances for Sharkhtar and only 29 goals.
How is he better than Perisic?
They slam Perisic for his age, but Costa is less than 2 years younger.
Minus dribbling, what does he have over Perisic who is as quick, two footed and more versatile upfront?
He is a good player no doubt but no one should admit this and then describe Perisic as average.

Dribbling is a big part of being a good winger, especially if you don't have a fullback that supports the attack, I think Costa's dribbling and his crossing is much better than Perisic's and those are vital parts of the game of a touchline type winger, neither are very good at linking up inside and goals are not the strongest suit of either.
Yeah, I have a friend who is a journalist who covers United (not big time, interviews the players occasionally, doesn't briefed or anything like that). He used to get info from a contact in the press office at United, but in the last year's gets very little. He asked about Morata a week before Lukaku was signed, they told him there was nothing in it, so either there was nothing in it or they are keeping a tight tight lid on things. So even if you get bits of information you still don't know if it true or not so your none the wiser.
We're probably more likely to get info from foreign journalists who has been given information but this could have been from club, player or agent with a different agendas.
But it's not like Perisic can't beat his man or men. He does it countless times especially with his pace. And his cross is pretty good. Sadly, his team mates at Inter miss far too many chances otherwise his assist stats would have shot up nicely.
I also think his goal scoring record last season was pretty good for a winger.
Neymar scored 13 in 30 in the league.
Costa scored 4 in 23
And Perisic scored 11 in 36
Even Hazard who had a much freer role attacking from wide, scored 16 in 36.
Perisic is not the average player people make him out to be. His last four seasons, playing in a poor Inter team, have shown that he is one of those late bloomers who can explode in a far better team.
Wouldn't take a bit of notice of the guy. Same person that a couple of years back trolled United fans and said he had huge United transfer news coming up in so and so time, hooked everybody in and come the time of the announcement he said he actually didn't and instead was just promoting a charity and was doing it to get attention from what I remember.
It would be unbelievably stupid and almost suicidal to play the first handful of games with only Cesc & Kante as our real CM players. Especially as we have very tough matches against Everton and Spurs right at the start. Matić must either be kept or we need to sign another CM in addition to Bakayoko.
A midfield 2 of Cesc & Kante will get dominated against the better sides.
He's only been two seasons at Inter, I've watched him a number of times for Wolfsburg, Inter and Croatia and personally I think he's a run of the mill winger, but I get you like him and that's cool and I recognize he's being bought for different reasons than I would buy a winger, I just think Costa is a much better player and much better to watch, but that is done now.

It's only a few official sources that might say "news in a few mins", and do follow it up literally 5mins later that are different.
I think you're in for a tricky start to the season to say the least. Costa going, Hazard out, the Lukaku mess meaning you need to go for the likes of Morata who could well take time to settle, this centre mid business.

I haven't seen much of either player to have a solid opinion, but it strikes me as a kind of Nani vs Kanchelskis in terms of attacking playing style. One who is tricky pleasing on the eye but let down by an inconsistant end product, the other a fast direct runner bit one dimensional. Would that be about right?

No, I'd honestly say that both are more in the mold of Valencia but Costa has a trick in him, neither of them are close to Nani's flair when he was on his game IMO.
