Premier League weekend fixtures 11/12/13 August

Bwahahaha. I celebrated like a madman when that went in.

Get fecked. Get absolutely fecked Liverpool.

Because that's not a rule. The direction of the ball doesn't matter.

Are you kidding me dude? The ball was played backwards, you cannot have an offside by physical definition! The ball comes to the goalscorer due to Matip's deflection, which has got nothing to do with an offside. The ball is clearly played backwards, hence offside does not apply.

Daft game. I think Liverpool played well for about 90 seconds. All 3 strikers scoring is the only real positive - and not losing I guess.

Its great to watch, but the standard of the top teams in the league is terrible. Ill be shocked if any of our sides get past the 1/4 finals in the champions league.

Liverpool will have the same problems as they always do. They won't struggle to score but will let in a shedload.

What is the rule then? And how come a player can't be offised during a back-pass?
Can't be offside from a ball deliberately played by the defending team. The rule is, a player has to have two players between him and the goal line when a ball is played to be onside. Of the player is behind the ball when it is player they're also onside. Direction of the pass doesn't matter.

Unless the rule has changed, passing the ball backwards cannot be offside from what I understood
No I'm not because I know the rules. If Player X is ahead of all defenders and the ball and player Y passes the ball backwards so Player X runs back to get it he's still offside because he was ahead of the ball when it was played. Direction of the pass does not matter. It is not a rule, it's not in the rules. Just the position of the players relative to the ball.

Women used to be mocked for not understanding the offside rule. I now know how they felt. As do a fair few officials. How did it turn into such a mess?

None of the top teams have played yet.

So a ball that is played backwards, and then knocked forward by the keeper makes a player offside?

I have no idea what you're trying to describe. But if you're referring to the last goal, I thought it was offside due to the shot that the watford player took that made Mignolet flap at it. At the point the shot was taken, Britos was offside, so when it rebounded of Mignolet and landed at Britos, it should have been offside. It was minimal and very quick so not surprised the linesman missed it tbh

The ball was played backwards by the attacking team though, so I say it does matter

Suggest you check the rules again then. You cannot be offside of the ball doesn't travel forward. So a perfectly square pass to a man who is in front of the ball would still not be offside.

Come on Burnley and Brighton later today! This premier league season has been crazy so far. Can't think of a more crazy start of the Premier league in terms of the first 2 games.

It should just be if anyone is ahead of the defence when the ball is put in they are offside. Make it basic. No interfering with play. It is too open to interpretation.

It wasn't a shot though. It was going away from the goal, but Mignolet decided in his own little world to put a hand out and hit it towards his goal. No way it was offside imo

The rules do not.

Go on then, show me the rule that says direction of a pass matters? It doesn't. Position of the ball relative to a players position matters. A ball can be played backwards and a player can be offside.

I thought it was toward goal. Oh well, in that case, god knows. The main thing is Watford got their goal, Klopp will be mad and RAWK will meltdown a little bit more.

Weird that old wolf eyes decides to start with Batshit instead of Morata.

£70m Morata on bench . I am glad Conte selects his players of performance rather than price tag because Morata has been proper shite in pre season. Other than that, I am suprised at the ladk of depth in the Chelsea squad. Seems like many academy players in the squad for Chelsea.

Bloody hell. Jamie fecking redknapp. Shut up. Does he want a fight or something? Christ

Didnt it land in Britos' path because of Minge? He was behind the keeper, ie, not interfering in that phase of play. The ball gets to him after a the keepers save.

edit:: I didnt even spot the deflection off the liverpool player before it got to the keeper. Definitely not offside.
