Premier League weekend fixtures 11/12/13 August

For all of the stick that Jose gets for the style of football his teams play, not many in the media seem to criticise Benitez. His sides are always negative, workmanlike and functional. He's obsessed with the 4-2-3-1, have never seen him try anything different.

His teams are dire on the eye. Liverpool fans won't have it though.

Eriksen is a lovely player, but not sure where he will fit in out team given that we are looking more for wide players.

There is something about Aili that I cannot stand too. Never really liked him despite his goals.

We'd love him if he was ours, a proper little mixer of a player

Under Poch, Spurs are something of a boa constrictor. 60 minutes of being muscled and pressed and squeezed to death, and then once you are too tired to fight back well - just swallowed whole.

From first watching that looked like an unbelievably good move, but the reply shows it flicked off Alli by mistake (the 2nd time) and Eriksen ran into it so it just bobbled off his shin. Decent though.

Because it is a myth Mourinho was more defensive than Benitez, actually when he was at Valencia and Liverpool their teams had a lot of things in common.

They don't even play the same position as Pogba who is more of an 8 in a midfield 2.
Nah, I think it's a fair comparison. Alli massively outperformed Pogba last season. Pogba needs to buck his ideas up and work on his game as at the moment I have to agree with @WhoDaGOAT, I'd rather have Alli.

I disagree. They are both the creative sparks for their team and are often the most advanced of the midfield.

Eriksen in the Pogba role for us would be a much better fit. He's a better playmaker and his final ball is more consistent.

Completely different player though. Feel that Aili is scoring more due to the system and style that Spurs play. Put him in our team and he won't be standing out much I feel.

Yep. Certainly impressive but also a bit boring and mechanical.

Just me or do all these teams look completely ordinary?

The Premier League's been becoming increasingly ordinary for years. Guardiola's the only one trying to buck that trend with crazy setups and insane firepower.

Atsu has looked capable of causing problems at times...otherwise...not alot from Newcastle.

Spurs really have built themselves a properly good side here. Fair fecks to them

Ali is a second striker basically.

Like comparing Griezmann and Iniesta .

I said I'd prefer Eriksen over Pogba. He mentions Eriksen and then Alli in his post.

But I was referring to Eriksen.

But will they win anything? this is surely the season they need to win some silverware, as I can't see them hanging on to their stars for another summer if not.

Good performance. Unfussed, muscular - no drama, no stress. Very happy with that, given what some of the other contenders looked like this weekend.

Or Newcastle got a red card and it changed the whole game?
