North Korea

Serious question: isn't it about time to take down this regime - either by "sniping" HIM or a full scale invasion?

Yes, I'm aware of the implications yada yada - but surley the world can't just sit on their ass and watch this?

Hasn't China declared that if North Korea is attacked first they will help defend the country? I think the reason people are sitting on their hands is because this has the genuine potential to spark World War 3 and to cause a horrific amount of causalities.

I'll admit I have never delved deep down in this subject - why would China defend NK?

I'll admit I have never delved deep down in this subject - why would China defend NK? Commie relations?

Past friendships and they don't want US interfering so close to their border. I'm not exactly familiar on the subject either but I think China said they won't defend North Korea if they strike first, only if the US attacks first.

So far the Redcafe defense committee STOP NUCLEAR WAR plan seems to be

1)Send in undercover Chinese martial artist back by American money to overthrow North Korean government - Operation B.L.I.N.D a.k.a Bruce Lee Is Not Dead.

2) Blow up North Korea

3)Find out the Chinese government views on North Korea

I was going to suggest sending Denis Rodman back too

FFS there had to be someone come along and make Trump look good!

After the initial shock after reading the news this morning my thoughts went along the same lines. We all think of Trump as we do... and yet we'll need to unite behind him against complete maniacs like this one :(

Some posters seem to not unserstand. There will never be 'fire and fury' , NK is a nuclear power now. The time to 'wipe them out ' was 70 years ago.

Surely Kim isn't stupid enough to actually attack the US in anyway whether it be indirect such as attacking Japan, South Korea or directly by attacking Guam. He would lose all the support he has from China. The thing that worries me is Russia, they've increased trade with North Korea despite the NK escalating tensions and building a nuclear arsenal. If the Chinese don't want US troops on their border then Russia must also been keen to avoid US troops on their border even if that border is nearly a whole continent away from Moscow.

It's all so confusing when you try to think where exactly Putin stands, if he's in bed with Trump then surely that bodes well for the US (at least in this case) but if he's increasing trade with North Korea and will permit them to continue their nuclear weapon tests along with China then what exactly are they trying to accomplish?

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...oosts-trade-north-korea-china-cuts/102389824/

If Kim is a rational person (big if) then he must be using this as a way to gain power so he can swing his dick at diplomatic meetings and have some leverage when the UN tries to impose sanctions on the US. Personally I believe Kim will let his people die in the hundreds of thousands if it means holding onto power.

Space colonisation can't come soon enough.

Hopefully
But I'm less sure that trump isn't stupid enough to attack nk
Best case scenario they obliterate Seoul and unleash chemical weapons and maybe even a nuke on tokyo.
Worst case scenario it escalates into ww3 with Russia and China squaring up to USA.

Best case scenario

Is that war is avoided altogether. Although as you say, with Trump in charge I am far less optimistic about the chances of that happening.

I also can't believe that more isn't being made of a nuke being set off 10km underneath the earths surface FFS!

That's not best case scenario at all!! :nervous:

10km... that must be one of the deepest holes in the world right... I think the deepest ever was 12km and the deepest mines about 4km

The only ref I have seen to 10km is that the test site was about 10km from China but obviously info is at best sketchy at the moment

Assassinate him and you have a fanatical army with it seems nuclear weapons and enough conventional weapons to flatten Seoul in about 30 minutes with nothing but revenge to do, and 25 million civilians who will help them every step of the way.

Most of the country is fanatical about supporting the regime, because they know no better and have been convinced that everyone else is the enemy. Kim is basically what Trump would be if he had complete information and media control and didn't have people like Mueller to watch him.

China could probably stage an invasion in a matter of a few weeks... for the USA to get the manpower and machinery and logistical support in place would be seversl months ... and I don't see Kim just sitting there letting them build that up.

If you give China enough incentive, they could pull a Tywin Lannister here. Ask the fat man to open the gates for them and then off everyone from the inside.

This is exactly what the world will do. When USSR stole the plans for the bomb, the US did nothing. When China developed it , the US did nothing. When India and Pakistan got it, the US did nothing. The solution again is injustifiable and worse than the problem itself. Btw, China has by far the biggest fault for allowing this to happen.

I think as long as China is assured that
1. They won't be left to deal (and pick up the bill) with the almost inevitable humanitarian crisis that follows a regime collapse
2. There will be no USA troops in nk (i.e. on China's boarder)
3. Once nk as it is has gone the USA will reduce troop numbers on the peninsula

They might play ball but they will (as every other country will) put their own interests first

Best case scenario is removing their nuclear capability surely?

Avoiding war is easy if everyone is happy for NK to continuously advance their weaponry, that however is not a solution its just the same lack of action that led us here.

That's do-able imo.

1. US, Korea and UN could promise foreign aid and relaxed trade pacts until NK can become a self sustaining state.
2. China gets to install a puppet leader of their liking instead of someone backed by South Korea and the US.
3. Gradual reduction of troops in the Korean peninsula depending on stability in NK.

I do think Kim is playing this pretty well. He jolted Japan with a flyover and followed it up with nuke tests, further testing their alliance with the US at a time when US itself lacks a stable president. Does Abe rely on Trump protecting the interests of Japan?

The news is saying it is a hydrogen bomb and NK say its usable on their missiles. Give it another year and he has an arsenal big enough to tell China to get stuffed.

When the fat man tells the world to remove all sanctions or he nukes SK are we going to remove them.

If North Korea's nuclear weapons now prevent the US from invading, then will they not also prevent China for the same reasons?
China might have provided a military solution at one time, I suggest that time's passed too.

I'll admit I have never delved deep down in this subject - why would China defend NK?

Simply because if NK is destroyed the US starts lining bases all over Asia - NK is the perfect buffer between the US and China so they leave them be.

IF NK was to attack first then China would go hell for leather on them, they will defend them otherwise though.

Game theory that out though and would he nuke sk... he could have said at any point he is going to vx gas Seoul if he wanted to go full on blackmail

I think such a direct threat is unlikely.. . Give your enemy a golden bridge to retreat over etc

I'd be more worried about him implying if sanctions were not lifted they might consider selling wmd technology to Isis etc...

Probably dressed up something along the lines of if the stupid imperial pig dogs don't allow our neighbours the glorious privilidge of trading with beautiful korea the glorious leader will consider forming a trading alliance with the other enemies of the imperial pig dogs around the world and sell them our superiors weapons so they can also use korean strength to keep the imperialists in check... etc etc

Perhaps we just send Denis Rodman over and pay him to ask Kim nicely to stop?

Yeah, that is his next move if the threat doesn't work.

He makes the threat for free now though so even if we don't remove the sanctions the threat has cost him nothing and then he goes visit Venezuela or which ever govt is in danger of losing control of its population and sells them the ultimate insurance. NK's people are never going to be free of him now.

That has to be the worst case scenario, surely? Just image what those feckers could do with it.

Not even NK would be stupid enough to trade nuclear technology with Isis/terrorists. Terrorist organisations don't have the infrastructure to build a bomb themselves and any sold nuclear material has a distinct signature that can be identified. Any country is responsible for its nuclear weapons. Isis or NK using such a bomb has the same outcome: the destruction of the original producer, which would be NK.
Maybe it's just time to accept that NK has nuclear weapons regardless of how bad that is. Any military intervention is a huge gamble that NK doesn't retaliate against Seoul. It's just not worth it taking that risk.
