Meh, before the game I would have took a draw at Anfield.

Can't complain regarding Jose's tactics, people need calm down we are not going to win or perform well every game.

This is the second game after the international break that we have drawn (2-2 Stoke). Let's blame it on that eh?

Why is everyone so surprised, a solid draw away to our most fierce rivals after a gruelling international break. I’ll take the draw and continue our unbeaten start to the season. Can’t win them all!

Agreed. The silly buggers are out in force it seems today

LVG-like display.
Although that was the whole point of Mourinho's game plan.
Don't like his approach to big games like this, but at the end of the day, if we win the league, there's nothing to complain.
Still boring though..
BS.

LVG had balls and was having many go against bigger sides and his record against them was generally very good.

Mourinho set up his team ultra negatively and give them that negative mindset to not even attempt playing football but just defend and clear balls.

The team couldn't even play on the counter because the ultra negativity of the tactics were just too much.

Boring match, but important point.

Some people actually think Lukaku did that on purpose?
Lovren was the one who actually tackled, Lukaku just lost his balance.
If that's a ban, then feck this sport, i'll stop watching it.

I usually don't expect more than this when it comes top four particularly Jose in charge.

Jose is a coward. Why does Ashley young even start games. Disgrace.

Jose Huge Coward, we have got the better team and went out to defend, no intention to attack. He could just as well have given Lukaku the day off. The guy had no support and no service. We made Liverpool look good and just threw away 2 points for nothing. Mou grow a pair.

A point away at Anfield is a good result. Yet, cue the kneejerk reactions demanding Mourinho be suspended from the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand by his neck. How about we appreciate the fact that we're undefeated with 6 wins and 2 draws and positioned in an auspicious position at the pinnacle of the table.

after all these years, DDG's english is still pretty poor (or is he just pretended so he doesn't have to say anything). I am compared his english to Peter the Great's and maybe Danes learn english at school more than spaniards do

Terrible performance. If Mourinho takes this cowardly road show to the other big teams we'll not be winning the title this season.

Well played by our defence but overall dispiriting for the supporters after a great footballing start to the season.

This is so typical of Jose in big games. I wish he had more confidence in the players to just have them attack and play football rather than just have them lumping the ball up in the vague direction of Lukaku.

Thought we played well 1st half - might even have edged it.

We were truly terrible 2nd half, mind.

Decent point therefore.

it's funny that i was watching a bbc documentary on bobby charlton and once again it brought home what this club is suppose to be about with entertaining attacking football but you watch the absolute rubbish we saw today and again it highlights this club has really forgotten about those values since fergie left.

man city will win the league this season, it's all well and good mourinho pulling this rubbish when he was at chelsea during seasons when other potential title challengers were off the boil but it ain't going to work this season

Really really happy with that. Don't know what you guys expected us to come out and do but that went exactly to plan for Mourinho.

I get what you are saying but if we are to compete ar the highest level we must buy or have players who cause problems to our opponents. He is square pegs to hole sort of player, we have to look beyond him.
And I absolutely what you're saying but changing Young isn't an emergency. Mkhitaryan for instance is a major concern, just as Herrera is.

I don't ever remember Jose shitting the bed against other big teams when he was manager of Chelsea. They used to outplay us constantly at OT.

Pfft.

Fine result. Poor performance from midfield forward.

Second to everything and looked like the international break hurt us more than Liverpool.

Liverpool a lot of huffing and puffing, but didn’t create a meaningful chance despite desperately needing the win.

Spot on. First game back and away from OT, had this been played two weeks ago, I think the result is much different. Probably not the setup, but much better from a United perspective.

Absolutely rubbish from Jose. Why does he he show so much respect to good teams is beyond me. This was a winnable game. Liverpool without Mane and playing with a mediocre defence. Definitely winnable. It's ok to play like that if we have a neymar or a hazard who can collect the ball and score a goal on their own, not otherwise. Simply unacceptable.

They weren't good enough to score a single goal against us, so how were they good enough to deserve to win?

I think they deserved to win because a) they clearly put in a better performance than us, b) they were the only side who actually looked like they were trying to win the game in the second half and c) despite what @Mr H says in his post their goal looked inevitable if the game had continued in the pattern of the second half.

The "they weren't good enough to score a single goal against us, so they didn't deserve to win" logic would mean that every team that ever lost deserved to lose and every team that ever won deserved to win. That's not how outcomes and performances relate to each other.

Lol at some of the fans in the match day thread

"I hope we lose this match"

Hopefully the mods start editing some user tags after that shitstorm.

For those saying "it's a good point, away to Liverpool"... no it's not, this isn't a good Liverpool side, we could have got all the points. City will go for the win in these games.

Agreed.

The mitigating factor for me is we have Pogba and now Fellaini out. I'm glad we are still neck and neck up there despite our midfield clearly being an emergency one. At full strength I would be mightily disappointed. As it stands, I'm disappointed we didn't even try but not with the result.

Ugly, ugly performance but a classic Mourinho point away from home. Defended well but the quality on the ball was woeful and never gave us a chance of getting more than we did.

And I absolutely what you're saying but changing Young isn't an emergency. Mkhitaryan for instance is a major concern, just as Herrera is.
Don't even want to talk about mkhi today. People will look at lukaku and complain but for me mkhi is a disgrace.

Why? Its generally how we've done it over the past 20 years.
City wont let up. We cant just beat say 11-12 of the 14 teams outside the top 6 and hope to win the league. Its a different era now. Noone plays us and feel beat before they get on the pitch anymore

I get it that Mourinho needs to prove that we can sit deep and defend. But we are so pathetic at it though, we allowed them too many chances and a half-decent team would have scored. We were lucky to come out with a point.

Again, it seems like our team's still poor at transitioning from defence to attack against teams like Liverpool that aim to cut out the options quickly. It's as if our players are really concerned about leaving gaps open and aren't yet trusting themselves and their teammates to commit to a counterattack. Mkhitaryan was quite guilty of this today and was one of the reasons we looked poor in our transitions. Young played too deep and rarely came out on the counter as well.

Other than that, our full backs today were the worst players on the pitch. They were frequently out of position, poor in the 1-on-1's, and struggled to pass the ball out from the back. Valencia and Darmian both didn't work well with their wingers at all, and both always looked to hoof it forward aimlessly in the hope that Lukaku could somehow barge his way to the ball.

Speaking of Lukaku, he showed, once again, that he's quite poor when isolated. He really struggles to hold the ball up in isolation and really struggles to keep control of the football when under pressure. Watching him today made me realise why I wanted Morata over him: whilst Morata isn't as big and strong as Lukaku, at least he can keep himself balanced under pressure and maintain control of the ball. Oh well, here's hoping that Lukaku can improve that side of his game, but I don't really see that happening.

Some people will attack our midfield for not taking control of the match, but what I saw was a midfield that struggled to find options. Liverpool kept pressing us hard, and the other players didn't look to make themselves available for passing options, instead preferring to stay back in order to not get caught out. Too often did we see Matic get caught out as he couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to. Too often did we Herrera attempt to play a quick pass to our static attacking players.

I guess this will be the pattern in our big games. The players need to have more trust in others and not worry so much about the gaps that can open up at the back. On top of that, we need full backs that don't look timid in their game.

I just hope Mourinho doesn't come out and say hello tried to win like he said about the game last season.

Though I'm expecting him to say that shamelessly

People dont moan about one point at Anfield, so dont spin shit and real issue some having regarding today`s game.

If Mata was picked in the centre with Herrera and matic we would have been a lot better.

It's a disgrace to keep trusting mkh now.

Throw in 1billion, Mourinho will probably still park bus away from Anfield. Will he ever change, that's the question.
Yeh. I don't know if because of the tactic/system our players looked so bad, or we just need better players.

A point away is grand. But the performance was awful. We couldn't string passes together. We never went at their defence, which has conceded the third most goals this year. No ambition.

I agree that a point is better than no points and going to Anfield is always tough, but it's so disappointing watching us play like that.
