North Korea

Yeah definitely. I hope they're prepared to help in that way afterwards if it happened.
I assume they'd use that as an excuse to control whoever gets put in power for a good while anyway, to avoid another dictator just doing the same thing.

That's the thing. It's seems like more of a point to be made than anything. I imagine a few massive airstrikes would be as destructive (without the long term problems).
The problem in a conflict with NK is the fact they know they will lose even if US wasn't there so the idea is to cause the most destruction in Seoul and they have a lot of mobile artillery in the city's range(most old and probably would fail after a few shots and the SK and US air force would destroy them - but a lot people would died) plus thousands of special forces not to fight the military but to kill anything in front of them, that's the only reason none of the US presidents pulled the plug and wipe that regime. Now with Trump is just provocation to see if Kim makes a mistake and at same time to try to involve China in the process, is a gamble and if something goes wrong a lot of people in SK will die.

somebodys gonna have to explain that one to me because I dont see how 90% of americans die when the power goes out

90% is obviously over the top, but the figure would likely be a lot higher than people would expect. Nearly 81% of Americans live in urban areas, and if those areas suddenly don't have any power, then a whole domino chain of very destructive things happen very quickly. Petrol pumps don't work, traffic lights don't work, telephones/internet obviously dont work meaning the transport grid basically comes to a screeching halt. Trains and planes are obviously also fecked. No transport grid means no food distribution, and very few people have any kind of food stored for emergencies. All those people living with no lighting and running out of basics (water network may also be closed down by a lack of power) and panic starts to set in very quickly. Crime rockets making it even harder to re-establish basic order, and without TV/radio/internet/telephone you don't have many ways to let people know what is actually going on, and to update them with what they should be doing. Unless power is restored relatively quickly its highly likely that you have a lot of dead people, many more desperate people, disease starting to spread etc etc.

We largely just don't live in a way that allows us to manage with a lack of power any more. That goes double for city dwellers. This is without even considering things like our complete lack of ability without power to deal with emergencies such as fire etc.

Apparently they broke the rules by shooting across the border at him.

Not only did they shoot across the border, one of their soldiers briefly crossed into South Korea during the chase.

No state, let alone the US is in any position to tell Kim that he can't have nukes to defend himself.

Anything more is pure conjecture based on the assumption that he's a madman. Yes he throws his threats out all the time but it's tit for tat year in, year out.

Any talks should be without pre-conditions because why should the US be policing North Korea?

All typed fully in the knowledge that the regime is monstrous and damaging to world society but also safe in the knowledge that we can't do anything about it.
