Post-match discussion

Great match. Two equally minded teams cancelling each other out. Great attitude from our players today. We also had the biggest chances. Deserved win.

Dominated Spurs for the whole 2nd half. Spurs had a 20 minute spell in the 1st half where they were decent.

A well deserved win.

Excellent second half against the inform team of the moment. They didn't look like scoring at all.

Nice start of the week end.

Well they had a sitter at 0-0 right before we scored, so that’s obviously not true, but not all sitters go in. Valencia also could have scored a blinder, in big games we need some luck and finally got it! feck yeah

How good is a manager that can't see that Martial is our best offensive player and causes the opposition most problems ?
If we can't play Martial and Rashford together at home, then when can we ?
If a player that is as out of form as Mkhi gets into the team what does it mean for the others?
Kudos to our defensive line. Bailly, Smalling and Jones were strong and reliable out there. Valencia and Young worked their socks off.

There wasn't much quality in United's performance, but a lot of heart. Mkhi and Herrera have been awful these last few games. 3 at the back and 2 up top looks promising. Lukaku needs better service, one decent cross and Lukaku heads it beautifully only for the post to deny the goal, why aren't there more crosses? Overall good soulful performance.

How was Alli's chance the best of the game? Better than a one on one which ultimately won the game?

Good result. not so good philosophy. i will never be satisfied with playing 3 at the back at home... its only spurs, not bayern or real madrid.

We play 5 or six at the back, people say we park the bus. We play three at the back, same complaint.

It's not an obsession mate. I just find it frustrating that our attacking play has all the subtlety and coherence of an Adam Sandler movie.

We aspire to be one of the world's biggest clubs yet we rely on a Wimbledon-esque punt downfield to score a goal. The fact that City are playing amazing football just across town is an obvious counterpoint.

But if you want to think United's critics are just Guardiola fanboys, then fine.
Are you one of United's critics then?

Martial's English is pretty good now.

Agreed. He's done really well. Why does it take forever for English players to pick up another language??

Martial's one of our best players right now. He should be starting every game.

Everyone upped their game in the second half. The 7 minutes before Mkhitaryan was subbed off, his shot that Lloris spilled and the ball across the face of goal set the tone for the rest of the 2nd half and eventually the goal.

Solid performance. Fantastic result.

Not a performance that will live long in the memory but 3 points was crucial today against a top 6 opposition. Interplay between the forward players remains a massively frustrating part for me, we seems very careless in giving the ball away.

Save for the horror show against Hudd the defence remains largely solid and it’s not just the fact that we defend in numbers but also because the defenders have eradicated errors/lapses of concentration from their game. Onwards and upwards towards next game, 3 points was all that mattered.

Martial's English is good! Anyone watching the interviews?

Not bad for 3 years in the country, I spent 16 years in South Africa and never really got used to Afrikaans.
He needs a run of games where he plays the full 90 minutes.Stick Rashford on the right FFS and scare the shite out of the opposition.

Shreaves desperate for Martial to say "Yeah feck you Mourinho"
I was happy with Martial's answer. Seems fine with the situation, and that he knows he has to deserve the starts.

Defence was solid. Midfield pressed well.
Miki and Lingard could have done better, but we did very well against a good spurs side.

Excellent win, we will have performed mourinhos instructions to a tee out there so I'm buzzing with how we played personally.

Positives:

DDG - His distribution was absolutely exceptional, including in the build up to the goal.
Defence - Very sound, apart from that one Dickhead Alli chance.
Young - Wound Spurs up all game, did well offensively and at the back
Matic - Did well despite being outnumbered
Playing 3 at the back - looks natural for our defenders and having this solidity in a big game is a huge positive and gives us an extra option

Negatives:

Herrera - Gave the ball away far too much. Unnecessary theatrics and has regressed a lot since last year.
Mickey - See above.
Lingard - He reminds me of the common housefly, buzzes around being annoying but easily swatted away.

The difference today and the Anfield performance was huge, but the commentary is going to be banging on about negative football.

It wasn’t the best game and both teams were very well matched, yet United just shaded it for me and deserved the 3 points.

Herrera and Miki were bleedin annoying but it’s a win and we can all enjoy the weekend now!

We play 5 or six at the back, people say we park the bus. We play three at the back, same complaint.
Eh, it was 5 at the back today. Perhaps we were set up slightly less defensive than at Anfield, but the mentality was definitely safety first, and try to nick one.

Huge 3 points, I thought the tactics and intent was spot on, the thing that let us down for large portions of the game was the lack of quality in the attack, thankfully we managed to get the goal and other than the one chance Eriksen created for Dele I never felt we were in danger, the back 3 were excellent.

Fantastic game. Very disciplined and full of grit. Players had good concentration and soaked up Tottenham's pressing well.

Deserved win. Dreadful first half but we played well in the second and ended up outplaying Spurs. Very important three points.

That's a massive win for us! Who needs creativity when you can go the 'ol route one tactic.

Good win.
Bunch of idiots chanting the Lukaku chant during the post match interviews. :nono:

Good win.Gritty performance from us, much improved on last Saturday!
Kane missing cancelled out Pogba missing for us.
Would love to see us start Rashford , Martial & Lukaku.

I would love to see Martial, Lukaku and Rash all on together. Wish Mourinho would try it. Like today I didn't think Rash deserved to be substituted but Jose is doing one or the other at the moment... so we'll see.

Scrappy but deserved as we looked the better team. Cant wait for Pogba to come back. Mhiki disappointing again.

We won't get away with that all the time. We got a bit of fortune but a just reward for persevering in the 2nd half.

We are lacking a midfield runner now that Mkhi has retired

Pogba MOTM again today, although a much better second half.

Terrible and worrysome performance.

Huge result though, delighted with that. That was an absolute must win.

Very much so. I think as long as Mourinho keeps the players realising the best way to do it is for them to prove it on the pitch then that's good. Honestly, I think people like Ibra, Matic and stuff are God sends for Mourinho. Big big names, managed and like Mourinho - so if youngsters like Rashford/Martial get miffed they can tell them to calm down and prove it. Those guys are professionals and we need people like them leading the dressing room
