Television The Caf' Anime Thread

Don't know but I watched the first 2 episodes of FMA Brotherhood and couldn't get myself to complete it. Don't know why but the start of the story didn't grab me a bit.

I started Code Gease some days ago and it looks very good so far.

Am I alone in thinking that the One Piece manga is back to it's pre-timeskip goodness?

I'll wait for the next arc with my judgement. The speed at which it progresses is still glacial, but at least some proper shit is going down.

Yeah, the pacing is quite odd at the beginning and then they got backwards to the beginning and then it later on catches up to what was happening on the first episodes. I only kept on watching because I saw the first animation and thought it was going to get better and make sense eventually. So it really gets better but as it's a long series it takes time and it's kind of hard to get into a the very beginning.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought the same about the beginning. I may give it another try, though at a time when I have nothing else to watch.

FMA: Brotherhood's beginning is messy, but I didn't notice it as much since I'd watched the earlier FMA and it filled in the gaps.

I must say Vagabond is a sensational manga, definitely up there with Berserk, shame it'll probably never get an anime adaptation but imagine it would get butchered anyway so maybe it's for the best.

An ideal adaptation would have Toru Takemitsu revived from the dead to do the score and the guy who voices Jet Black/Kizaru/the Berserk narrator to voice Takuan Sōhō as I read all his lines in his voice.
If you liked vagabond and berserk you will probably like sword of the immortal too.

@Invictus Have you read Korean manhwa, Trump?
Nope, don't believe I have! Been meaning to get into manhwa - but have only read Trace, Killing Stalking, Blade of the Phantom Master, Noblesse and Tower of God, thus far.

Just finished code geass both seasons some days ago.

What an anime, one of the top 20 things I have seen in my life in general.

I think if you liked Code Geass you'll probably like Mirai Nikki (and Attack on Titan) if you haven't seen it/them already. All are engineered to entertain with themes/genres/plotlines thrown in to escalate.

Didn't see them, I plan to try Attack on Titan very soon, though.

It's hard to find something that keeps me engaged completely in its world and characters, animes like Code Grass and hunterxhunter did this brilliantly for me.

Right. Thought there was a chance you had, or perhaps was looking into reading it, given you recommended Tower Of God. For me, it was a case of once you go blKorean manhwa there was no going back. When you do dive back into it, you might want to give Trump, and Black Haze a shot.

I finally finished Naruto Shippuden, thought the first 100 episodes were kinda underwhelming, then it picked up a bit and was pretty decent for a while until the ending which was a complete clusterf*ck. Is this the common consensus about the show?

I reckon so. Kishimoto kept thinking bigger and getting more ambitious with the stakes, but incessant contrivances couldn't mask him failing to take care of the details.

Yep, pretty much. Everything following Five Kage Summit Arc seemed too cumbersome and disparate in terms of the pacing and scale. Especially with the Uchihas essrntially hijacking the manga, and Kaguya and all the generic FinalBoss characters in the end leaving a sour, anti-climatic taste in the mouth.

That said, Shippuden did have three of my favorite panels (and arcs) from the manga, on top of some iconic Shikamaru x Asuma scenes...

Don't think I've ever been as fascinated by a Naruto character as I was with Pain. Probably because he was so shrouded in mystery from Naruto I - with a lot of people theorizing that he was Yondaime in disguise given his resemblance with Yahiko's silhouette. Had the potential to be the absolute best antagonist in Naruto as the leader of Akatsuki with his murderous personality, the gates, the narrative of Nagato being the avatar of the Sage of Six Paths and the predecessor of Minato and Naruto as Jiraiya's disciple, and the menacing design of Rinnegan against the backdrop of a war torn Amegakure:

This was probably Naruto's peak as a character and as symbol. Was sooo pumped to see him go head-to-head against a seemingly all-conquering Pain after a Goku-esque entry.

Unfortunately, Kishimoto just had to ruin it with Naruto x Nagato talk-no-jutsu at the end, aside from the small matter of the resurrections.

Long-awaited genjustu slugfest between the emo vengeful underdog and the STD-infested fallen genius.

Fairly tactical and coherent, too - unlike the ones at the end where everyone by haxed beyond recongnition.

Haikyuu is super popular and raved about at the moment. Most people I know who have watched it love it. I couldn't finish season 1 myself but that isn't a disservice to the anime, I'm just like that with everything I watch these days.

Hajime no Ippo is the best anime I’ve seen

The movies are no substitute for the manga but iirc the third part nails it's source content.

Kuroko no Basket is awesome.

For football check out Hungry Heart Wild Striker -probably the most realistic football anime or if you like football coaching Giant Killing. Then there's Haikyu(Volleyball), Ping Pong and the already mentioned Kuroko No basket - though beware its nothing like Slam Dunk since it uses your typical shonen special power battles in basketball

If you didn't watch Hajime No Ippo then you didn't watch a sports anime before imo. A must seen for any sports anime fan.

Bah, I want to re-watch your lie in april, but i don't want to watch or skip the ending.:(
