Hating Lingard

I'm a neutral but really don't understand the dislike the kid gets.

O.k he's not a future Balon D'or winner but he's local and always gives his all for the shirt. He also has a big game mentality which the two cup final goals indicate.

To me he's no worse a player than Park Ji Sung was, overrated due to the company he had. Put Park in the 2013-16 teams and see how influential he'd be. He was useless for QPR.

It was his third start in the Premier League this season. Lingard's also played from the beginning twice in League Cup and Champions League games.

So in fairness to the lad he's done really really when starting - versus Watford and Arsenal, in the League Cup etc. Very unfair criticism of him IMO.

Surely he deserves to start in the no.10 position now? He's had one bad game which was Huddersfield, but it wasnt really a bad game because players further back let him down.

He's been good in almost every game he's been called up.

Lingard is a natural 10, you can see by his movement on and off the ball how good he can be if given the chance at 10. Some might of heard this before, when Giggs was doing his A licence prep he had to focus on only one player for his coaching and feedback. He got Lingard, at one point he had to stop Lingard and ask him to do something wrong so he could correct him. Giggs felt like he was going to go on and do massive things within football. I think it’s his off pitch antics that get him a negative reaction to some fans.
He’s in the starting 11 before Mata and Miki and justified in my opinion.

Based on current form I'd agree. I kind of miss the dabs though.

He's making that position his own. His quick one-touch passing and give and go's are tasty. One gripe I've always had with Mkhi is his insistence to hold onto the ball for too long. Lingard releases it when it needs to be released. His passes are quick and swift.

His movement off the ball is nothing short of World Class and the best in the team too. He was phenomenal in the Arsenal game and if it wasn't for Pogba and De Gea, he'd be getting much more plaudits.

Good one..
He just receives unfair levels of criticism
He’s a talented player who takes one for the team

Totally agree. Hell of a goal of a squad player for someone who isn't really good enough even for that role.

Allegedly ;)

Interesting to see his performance against City (assuming he starts). If I recall correctly he was fazed by the derby at OT last year and got subbed at half time along with Mhki.
I would imagine Lingard will want to prove a point and on current form he'll hopefully bag a goal

Park was a very good player during his peak years with an excellent knack for important goals and assists.

Easily one of the most frustrating things about discussing football is when people genuinely believe a good performance means that previous poor performances couldn't have happened. If Lukaku scores 3 against City on Sunday everyone who didn't think he played a 'worldie' vs Watford is presumably a United-hating feckcumber.

Lingard has had two very good games under his belt. It's a positive and everyone hopes he can continue. It doesn't mean that criticism of him to this point hasn't been valid.
2 out of 3 starts this season. And plenty more than 2 over previous 2 season.

Rooney was in the no.10 spot in that game, Lingard was out wide. Lingard at no.10 is a solid player, but he is mediocre out wide.

ahhhhhhhhh ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

He is a miles better footballer then everyone on here. Yet here we all are sitting in judgement and giving him a digging or not depending on your opinion of him. And its just seems to have got worse in the last few years with all of these baller heads who think that FM or FIFA is football. He is a baller, he aint no baller, like WTF? We had Fletch Park P Nev Butt Fellaini all have had great games for us and been MOTM and scored important goals. Well maybe not Butt and P Nev but the rest have and so has Lingard.

He works hard scores goals seems to have a laugh which keeps spirits up. Only Lukaku Rashford and Martial has scored more than him so far this season. Yea he's not Zidane but not many are. He'll do fine and get us goals too

I have defended him, just for the record.

Why would anyone compare him to us supporters? The comparison is with other teams' players in same position.
That 's what supporters do.

Making fun of people who think fm or fifa is football, and yet your name is a pisstake of a rival team's manager. I guess your kind of supporters are better?

Been very impressive lately. He's an intelligent player and he steps up in the big ones perhaps because he's afforded more space than the others but whatever it is he is on form and deserves to start until his form drops.

Nicky Butt and Phil Neville both had some excellent games for us.

Nicky Butt doesnt get anywhere near the respect he deserves... Phil Neville at least has the name recognition.. Butt was great for us.

So is Djimi Traoré, Gabriel Obertan or Dong Fangzhuo. That in itself is not much of a point, to be honest.

Nicky Butt was the best of those players you named, by some distance.

Its always funny when a lesser talented player outplays a big money signing by sheer graft and consistently doing the little things well. Ashley Young did that first with di Maria and then with Luke Shaw, now Lingard doing the same with Mkhitaryan.

I too love when big money signings flop.

ESPN wrote a great article on Jesse a couple of months ago. Should be read by everyone that "hates" Lingard. To me the key is "attitude". Lingard is no Messi (though the nick suits Messe Lingard right now) and knows it. He plays within his limitations, but the one thing he can never be blamed for is not trying. He gives it his all and now, we're finally seeing his intelligence. He's normally pushed wide because "he's pacy" and because we have the luxury options of Mata and Mkhi - plus of course, last season we normally played 4-3-3.

This season, unless a person is really blinkered, you'd have to admit that Jesse has been better than Rashford. By my recollection, we've just looked better with Lingard at 10 and one of Martial / Rashford partnering Lukaku than with both Rashford and Martial playing at the expense of Jesse. Maybe it's time to admit that he brings that something extra that the others don't. I'm not for a moment saying Lingard has more talent than any of the others - but talent is not everything - and I feel he just suits the team's needs better right now. Could we do better than him? Sure, he's not among the best (or most consistent) in the world, but I'd argue that on current form, he totally deserves to start instead of Rashford, Mkhi or Mata...

Pleased for Lingard. Hope these levels continue. I've always been quite impressed with his movement, if he consistently adds end product he is very useful.

Jesse rarely plays badly when he palys at No 10, even LvG consistently played him in that position. It a waste to play him wide

Given its probably considered to be his natural position from his youth days it's hardly surprising. I don't think he has the qualities to make himself a wide man. He benefits much more from clever runs between the lines and creating space centrally, it's certainly where he looks more assured. In my opinion at least.

Wrong take away there champ. No one likes big money signings flopping but at the same time no one likes entitled pricks holding their place ahead of hungrier players just because their market value said so.

You said it's "funny", it bloody well isn't funny whatsoever. I find some of the analogies used to praise some of our players on here pretty bizarre; just as bizarre as having to bash one player to praise another. Lingard has been excellent the past two games but there's nothing comical about Mkhitaryan's comical form.

Its about as funny as reality hitting someone hard in the face. Mkhitaryan was running around with a camera following him everywhere filming documentaries thinking he had somehow arrived at the world stage with a transfer to a big club. Well, 5 games later his manager publicly called him a coward and told him where to go. There's a certain humor in that.

Jesse has gone up massively in my estimations. I can see why people don't like him, lots of attention seeking behaviour on social media while putting in some below par performances throughout the season gets on people's nerves. Kind of like Tom Cleverly and branding his TC23 or whatever it was, following Ronaldo's CR7.

Anyway, turns out Jesse's quite good when you play him in the right position. 3 goals in 2 games is a good return and his movement and link-up play are great in and around the box.

Ok we see humour differently, I guess. I would rather Mkhitaryan had of been the player most of us thought he was going to be and not this version of him that we currently have.

I think it'd be easier for some people to accept him if he was on 60k rather than 100k.

Park was finished by the time he moved to QPR.

He is on 75K as per Ducker, much more reliable than sensationalists Sky.

Right now, he’s our best option at RM.

Really? I think Lingard is very poor out wide.

He's a far better player at #10. His biggest strength is his movement and getting into the right positions.

Definitely. He's not a winger at all and is far better playing more centrally where he can occupy little pockets of space and get himself into dangerous positions. He doesn't have the skill set of a winger whatsoever and is often infuriating out wide.

Nah he really isn't, if he's shunted out wide again he will go back to being largely anonymous. He's much more suited to playing centrally.

Sadly our best option right now at RW is probably Young which says it all really about our wide options. A top class right winger should be top of the shopping list in June.
