Isn't Lingard of moderate quality? Would you say he's exceptional?

But is he an exceptional footballer? How many teams would he slot into in the top half of the PL table?I would say he some exceptional qualities that allow him to achieve at a very high level? He's an exceptionally clever, persistent, and hard working player.

He's been good for us recently. And if he maintains this run for the remaining part of the season, maybe I will start trusting hiM more. But, given his track record so far, I'll still be doubtful about what to expect off him in a game where he's starting. That's just me though.

There is - Moderately good and moderately bad. Lingard for me is moderately good.Yes, because there is absolutely nothing in between mediocre and exceptional.
He gets 2 good games in and now he is "exceptional"....
So lets start making comparisons to De Bruyne, like we did when Micki was in form. You cant can you? ... the reality is that when Micki is in great form (rarity), there is a "chance" he can be compared to the great's, but Lingards best doesnt even have a chance in the comparison table.
Lingard doesn't have the talent.... he is a work horse and that is all he will ever be. Man Utd will never be a Premier League Champ while he gets the starting #10 spot... simple as that.
Now i do support the young kid because he is giving his all and is making things happen.... which is all we can ask of Lingard. But please stop the nonsense, your making yourselves and our club look bad with this exceptional talent crap!
Awful post. Uniteds form up until this point in the season is similar (or even better) to the most recent premier league champions, going back i think 4/5 years.
How you can say a workhorse is all he'll ever be, i find astonishing. You sit behind a computer and watch him from your armchair, maybe twice a week and come to that conclusion, whilst peers who have all worked with him on a day to day basis have all called him a talented individual. Truly astonishing.
You are making no sense... how is anything your saying a response to the fact that Lingard isn't a work horse? .... if he didn't have talent he wouldn't be in a professional club, no shit. But relying on him as ur starting #10 every game... you have no chance at winning the Premier League. Keep your armchair comments to urself, where it applies most.
FYI, United's form is at this level because of others like De Gea, Pogba, Martial and so on... not because of Lingard. I support the kid and I do like what he brings to the club, especially the last 2 games, but please get back to reality.
Man Utd needs, deserves, and should get a dominant #10 due to its history and obvious financial flexibility.

I read this on here quite a lot but surely not every United fan watches from an armchair?
For a start depending on their living room set up and TV position i'm sure a lot of people choose to sit in the middle or on either end of a sofa. No doubt some will be on ottomans/stools or even on the floor if they are young and/or come from big families and there's not enough seats. Then of course you'll have the lazy bastards who watch in bed, weirdo's who like to watch while standing up and probably the odd loon on a ceiling mounted swing, exercise ball or something else crazy. And all that's before we even get into dining chairs, office chairs, bean bags, benches etc.
I'm interested does a persons choice of furniture to sit on while watching United make their views on football more or less valid in your opinion?

Homegrown players so he’d be screwed there
Who would he replace from the first choice lineup at Arsenal, Spurs or Liverpool? As I don’t think he’d be first choice at any of those clubs.
I have been critical of Lingard in the past but I admit I was wrong and he is starting to prove his worth. However I agree with you here, he wouldnt start over Mane, Coutinho and Salah. He wouldnt start over Eriksen and Alli but would probably start for them depending on their formation and the same for Arsenal. Iwobi, and Welbeck all start for Arsenal half the time and Lingard is no worse than them 3.

I used to feel the same about these professional players' views, but if you look at it closely, they always raved about Rooney and his performances throughout his career at United. Even when our fans on caf were slating him. Since I am a big fan of Rooney, I used to side with the professionals and their views. But clearly the fans were seeing something that they didn't like with Rooney.Choice of funiture has no impact on the validation of someones football views.
However in this instance, sitting at home and watching united twice a week compared to former professional players of the highest level, does have an impact on the validation of someones views.
You cant make a statement like "He'll never be anything more than a workhorse" when you do this.
Get your point, and there will always be bias, but thats not a good example. Rooney is United and Englands all time top scorer and has won everything there is to win except a world cup, and ended up captaining both sides. Despite fans frustrations, he clearly was a good player.I used to feel the same about these professional players' views, but if you look at it closely, they always raved about Rooney and his performances throughout his career at United. And the team definitely seems to have improved since his departure, so maybe they did have a point?
Just saying that the professionals, especially ex-United players will always be biased no matter how hard they try.

Sorry mate you've lost me here what is he can't do if he wants to voice an opinion?
Scott Mctominay will united greatest ever midfielder.
Pogba will be seen as nothing more than a big langly target in the middle by the end of his united career.
England will absolutely destroy every team they play at next years world cup and go on to win the competition, and their next 5 international competitions.
All absolutely baseless "opinions" that unless you have a crystal ball, will never know how accurate until the time comes.
Jesse lingard will be nothing more than a workhorse, is that kind of statement. Unless he has a crystal ball somewhere, an "opinion" that strong has no validation whatsoever.

Find it hilarious how the tone has changed in the Lingard convo after 2 games.
