I randomly decided to rewatch Hunter X Hunter a while ago, last time around I had stopped watching it just at the beginning of the Chimera Ant arc (I had one look at all the new characters in the intro, knew it was gonna be very long, so didn't fancy it in the end). But yeah, this time around I plowed through it and I must say it was complete pants. It betrayed everything that made what came before so good, terrible pacing, just a big pointless nothing arc. Also, the design of the ant king must be one of the worst OAT.
What are good 'fun' animes to watch? Something like One PUnch Man or HunterxHunter (apart fro Chimaera arc)?

Though considering that One Punch Man and Hunter x Hunter are shōnen or shōnen parodies, maybe we have varying definitions of fun?

Gin tama is the gold standard for shōnen parodies. For straight up shōnen, there are tonnes of options - basically every other popular anime is shōnen: One Piece, Rurouni Kenshin (not fun per se but close to the zenith of the shōnen genre), Hajime no Ippo, Dragon Ball (chibi Goku), Yu Yu Hakusho (hack-slash), History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Fullmetal Alchemist, Shingeki no Kyojin, Boku no Hero Academia, Code Geass, Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Naruto and Bleach (the good parts), Wolf's Rain, Eureka Seven, D.Gray-Man, Trigun.
From what I remember about this, I always felt there was an extra gear needed that it never really kicked into. There was a very throwaway character introduced into the protagonist troupe and the show got gradually less interesting with a messy conclusion, for me.
Last night, I watched (one episode each) Beserk and Claymore for the first time. Usually from the first episode, I'm blown away, but I didn't get that from Beserk. Even so, can't wait to watch more based on preconceived thoughts.
The first episode of Berserk is kinda unrelated to the rest of the series and kinda forgettable, watch the second one, it's the one who got me hooked and also introduces the two great leitmotifs of the series.

I like Claymore, too - especially the first 12-ish episodes - or however many there are before Witch's Maw. Has the same problem as Berserk in that the anime directors started taking liberties with the source material, and the show ended on a contrived note.
Probably one the better (and more stark) shoujo anime out there, all things considered.

I liked the first episode. A mate of mine recommended it 7 years ago on grounds I'd enjoy it given our mutual interest in Bleach. Took me a while, but better late than never. In that case, it would fit right in! On a serious note, that's bitterly disappointing.
What are the other shoujo anime you've liked to some degree? Or if you prefer, that you've watched. I can guess one that you've watched.
Really liked Claymore also. Can recommend it.

Apart from that, I'd probably recommend Hotarubi no Mori e, Akatsuki no Yona, Jigoku Shoujo, The Rose of Versailles, Cardcaptor and Tsubasa Chronicle and Haruhi Suzumiya (watched all three years ago - might not suit more mature tastes), Tasogare Otome x Amnesia - if you could categorize them all as shoujo. And borderline shoujo/josei like Vision of Escaflowne, Blood+, Fushigi Yugi, Kill La Kill, Black Lagoon, Nodame Cantabile, Clannad, Toradora. As you can see, I haven't watched a ton from the genre considering these are more mecha, action with prominent female characters, or straight up romance/slice of life. @Vidyoyo had recommended Utena in this thread, but I haven't started that in earnest.

Heard a lot of people like vampire knight & sailor moon, but it's not a genre i tend to watch a lot of, unless some of the animes I've watched do fall into the category but I don't know.
Haven't seen the others but the romantic undertones in Akatsuki no Yona are terrible. Ignore that and the rest is okay.
Tonari no Kaibutsu kun. Drunken netflix binge watching ftw.
Also never seen it but Orange was a highly regarded recent shoujo anime.

Haven’t watched an anime in ages. Last one was probably Koe no Katachi or In this Corner of the World.
Maybe you should watch History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi if Gin tama is too much. It's fairly light-hearted, fun - if a tad bit juvenile, kinda action-packed with a diverse cast, and only 50 episodes long (excluding OVA).

Seven Deadly Sins is decent. Nearing the end and though it has nothing of critical value, the story moves at decent pace and fight sequences are pretty good.

You've gotten some decent recommendations, give Konosuba a chance too, kind of a parody anime but quite funny and chill.
