Manchester City 17/18 discussion | "If you're here for the Champions clap your hands" (#6505)

Not really. I just found it odd that it would get an airing against a team that's been getting routinely turned over this season - if it was against someone like Liverpool or Chelsea then fair enough. Anyway, it was interesting that WBA adopted it after they got a goal back and put a bit of pressure on.

Ermm no they didn't. That was the United fans taking the piss again.

It got an airing to have a laugh at you lot, which we did and will continue to.

City are favorites for the Champions League at the bookies now - https://www.oddschecker.com/football/champions-league/winner

I certainly wouldn't bet on anyone beating them.

I personally find it refreshing to see a PL team that looks capable of breaking the Real-Barca stranglehold of the last near-decade.

To be fair the bookies odds are more a reflection of the fact we drew Basel than anything else. If we beat them and the likes of Bayern, PSG, Barcelona progress too, I really don't think we'll still be favourites.

I personally feel that as the CL gets real, we'll see (yet again) that citeh are far from invincible.

2/3 seasons ago they were faves for the CL
, pundits were again calling them the best team on Earth, and when it matter in Europe, they failed. Same will happen again.

Except this time I'll enjoy it even more.

Nope, we never have been until now.

Martial has proven nothing this season in comparison wih Sterling who has been putting in some stellar performances.

The crying over a bit of banter on here is hilarious, especially by those who spout the "not real rivals", "bitter" (oh the irony) etc... Ffs suck it up, this forum is going full RawK/Bluemoon for the last while where everything is seen as such an insult.

To be fair to the mods on here, they are way, way more lenient than either of those shitholes you just mentioned.

If you had United in citeh's position right now, and you had RAWK or Blue Moon full of loud mouth, bragging United fans, they'd get banned immediately.

This forum is swarming with bitters who then go back to blue Moon and refer to us as 'ragcafe' etc.

If the mods tightened up and kicked them/you out, there would be way, way less city talk. Not saying they should, or shouldn't, but that's why it is like it is.

The mods on here are great but one can clearly see the bannings have went through the roof recently (at no fault of the mods) but with posters just melting down for no reason imho.
Just scroll back through the last 10 pages and see the no. of names with banned underneath. This thread in particular has become an us vs them on everything instead of talking about actual Man City and football. Honestly there are some great posts in here too but they are getting lost in the mess.

At the end of the day, I agree on BM and Rawk but the bannings have increased here and with good reason here even though the mods are much fairer. Its a pity to see what started out as a decent thread with people discussing City and a bit of banter turn into a full on meltdown is all. It was a great thread for debating and arguing valid points and it's lost, as mostly is the entire front page. We need to "make Redcafe great again", you have to agree that this thread and most the City ones have descended into a farce.

Its not less City talk mate, its less spiteful bullshit Im hoping to see. What this forum needs is everyone to chill, it's getting stupidly out of hand and in fairness if this forum want's to stay as an open shop then everyone needs to relax, maybe the mods should close all City threads temporarily especially the wumming ones on both sides.

Maybe if some city fans actually stood up to the WUMs it would start to calm the 'us vs them' feeling (on here at least).

Like I said earlier, most United fans dislike the Glazers, most United fans criticize Fergie's spending in his final years - but the city fans on here have nothing bad to say about their owners practices... which basically means you're talking to either an utter idiot, or a WUM.

Of course our owners human rights record is there for all to see and certainly nothing to be proud of.
In my defence of the owners, they have done nothing but good for City. Are they good people? Are they feck, but are they the only bad people in football? Nope. As a club City owe them a lot, and as a fan I'm greatful but that doesn't mean I'm deluded into thinking they are amazing people. I know exactly what they are.

This might sound harsh but I never hated AC Milan because Berlusconi, Juventus had Gadaffi etc.. it might sound ignorant and even selfish but I don't really care about our owners, nor Qatar, nor wherever, I knows its selfish but being honest unless something affects me personally I go "well it'd be nice if they were better people but shit happens."

What winds city fans up (not the wums but the ones like myself and Jasr etc..) is not anyone questioning our owners morality but those who flat out lie about us cheating and are wumming themselves when its clear for example Uefa have went through our books with a fine tooth comb and the Premier League also has its own FFP.

Coming from one of the biggest WUMs on here (you that is), that’s an utterly pathetic post even by your own low standards, especially when it’s been pointed out directly to you in the other thread that a lot of United’s sponsorship money comes from pretty much the same source as City’s owner yet somehow you haven’t got the balls to respond to it.

As for the Glazers, what right-minded football fan wouldn’t criticise them if they’d taken over their football club and whacked a shit load of unnecessary debt onto it?

Sorry mate, I'm done looking at your posts. You're on ignore.

I take it you don't understand the manc sense of humour.

Not from Warrington by any chance?

You like to use that word giddy a lot don't you? Funny seeing a poster who lives thousands of miles away from Old Trafford desperately trying to be a part of the crowd when spouting off about such things as small time, and empty seats, yet doesn't attend any matches himself. Regarding the latter, what makes you think you deserve to take part in that particular joke when in all probability you've attended less matches at Old Trafford than I have?
He has the right to say whatever he wants whether he lives at Old Trafford or thousands of miles away.

Anyone watch the build up to Everton vs Swansea? Terry and Carragher were talking about City and their threat from goal kicks (Ederson). Terry said the tactic of defending deep is better than the press Pochettino tried to deploy.

Yes you're right, I think that he got every player he needed however whereas we were dithering on the price (Perisic). Basically, he has every type of player and a replacement available to suit his playing style and the blank cheque is a catalyst to that.

If he were held back financially to some degree, would we see the same domination?

I just need to post something because I cannot believe the crazy things I read about City and Pep Guardiola. I understand the hate, but don't understand the terrible bias in here. I have been following Pep since he started. Incredible coach and has given me great moments by watching his teams play. He is a perfectionist and wants perfection in his teams. At Barca he had a great team and the team kept getting better and better by tweaking the system once it is implemented, and then started to integrate youth players and even other players that do not seem good but had some skills that would fit his style. People in the caf talks about how would guardiola do with players like Lingard, mhky and Mata, what a crazy thought!! I can tell you that players like the Dos Santos brothers, the alcantara brothers, Jeffren, Muniesa, Montoya, Fontas, Assulin, Bojan, Gudjonsen, Adriano, Keita, Maxwell, Bartra, Vazquez, Tello were key players in the rotations and adapt to his system very well. I remember him giving an interview about Cuenca!! saying he was ugly, but understand the tactics so well and that's why he used him so much. In his time at Bayern, he once played a game with with bernat, Lahm, Martinez and alaba at the back, basically no true defenders, winning 4-0. The only bad thing I can say about him is what everyone knows, that he is so obsessed about perfection and i think sometimes he gets bored winning so much, and that eventually the club where he is doesn't challenge him enough and leaves.

That makes sense to be fair. It’s harder for Ederson to find a team-mate when the opponent is defending deep. Those tactics will be ideal to deploy for some teams but I’m not sure it would’ve worked for Spurs as Pochettino’s natural game is to press and have a go. I think their problem on Saturday was that some of their players didn’t play to their potential. On another day they might have and it would’ve been a closer game.

Take it easy.

So I read an article about how Pep wants to build a Fergie like dinasty at City. He obviously wont stay at City for 26 years but maybe he intends to sign a new contract and build somehting there, dominance and whatnot.
Anyway what do y'all think, will he leave after 3, 4 years just like in Barcelona and Bayern or will want to stay beyond that.

Since he is man who wants to change clubs it seems I dont see him that long at City but you never know.

There was talk of a 10 year stay but I really can’t see it. I think it may be 4 or possibly 5 at tops so a 1-2 year extension.

I think it depends what will he achieve. If he'll be really successful he might say fe.k it, I've done everything here, I'm seeking a new challenge.
In any case it would be nice if he went not achieving everything but we'll see. :)

3 years max for Pep IMO. He seems to lose motivation rather quickly.

Jamie Jackson in the Guardian? Just a filler piece with absolutely no substance. Clearly, every club would like their manager to stay for twenty success-filled years.

Most media speculation is crap, its just to get clicks and generates agitations.
United would have a squad of a few hundred if all the transfer gossip over a season was true for example.

Many city fans were aware of Pep stories about him joining City (there were many clear signposted markers to anyone without an agenda), but the press speculation was generally the opposite.

It would be nice to have him longterm, but his past form of managerial length and the Girona connection, don’t seem to point that way. But it’s the future, and City tend to do an awful lot of backroom stuff without too many leaks, so .. maybe

Great. We have a FCBarca junior here.

He‘ll stay as long as his methods work, I guess. With all the power he has at City and all the money at his disposal, with a young team with a bright future, I don’t see why he should leave so soon. I still think he would have extended at Bayern if he had had more power.

3, 4 years isn't so soon by his standards.

Yeah, I know. But considering the status his team is in, I’d call it soon. The project doesn’t seem like it’s finished soon.

You'll get used to being called cheats by your crosstown rivals. We've had it for 25 years

Yeah, there is that weird feeling that if he wins a load of trophies over the next couple of seasons then he might leave but I do think a lot depends on how happy he is in his working environment. I don’t think he enjoyed the boardroom structure at either Barca or Bayern, whereas at City he appears to be free to concentrate on the footballing side of things.

I've read this thread from the start over the last couple of days. It's amazing how it's changed over the last few months. It now seems to be in complete chaos. Lot's of new City posters on the wind up & M18CTID throwing insults & generally not getting it. I read this forum for a long time as a guest & thought it was refreshing that it wasn't as partisan as many others. The trouble is,that when you bring different supporters together you will always get some bad eggs trying to spoil the party.

I see namco is back
