Manchester City 17/18 discussion | "If you're here for the Champions clap your hands" (#6505)

Simply put, Guardiola's team is doing what all of his teams did. The problem is there's no one good enough to keep up in the PL right now

This is also a huge part of the problem. Man City in the last few years massively underperformed, it’s our fault for not recognising just how dangerous they could be once it clicked.

Indeed.

It’s like the 4x woodwork, the 80% possession, the (un)fortunate substitution swapping a defender for an attacker, and the number of shots - counted for nothing tonight, but hey let’s talk only about the last 5-10 mins.
Not enough praise for City I reckon?

Don't let the myopia confuse you, think globally. It's not just on the Caf, everyone is talking about & watching City
Myopia? Feck off. Please provide global viewship numbers then. Otherwise you just come across as a WUM.

Like Spurs. Who were lucky not to concede 6-7 goals.
Spurs defended awfully, most the goals were their own faults.

In the 2nd half at 1-0 they were more than in the game, if they took their chances it could have been so different.

It sucks watching them.

I really don't think their squad is THAT good. I think Pep's done an outstanding job after failing last season.

Hopefully this raises the level of the Prem in general and forces us to improve even more.

If you're going to quote numbers then don't be myopic since I didn't make a claim about City being the most watched in England
No, you implied that because of City's style, people are tuning in in droves. I posted numbers that didn't fit your narrative and you rant about myopia and confusion rather than countering with factual evidence.

Journalist: "Are Man City favourites to win the Champions League?"

Pep Guardiola: “Who does Messi play for?”

Reporter: “Barcelona.”

Guardiola: “So they’re the favourites.”

Limiting the scope of your response to a smaller sample is the very definition of taking the myopic route, think globally

If Barcelona and City meet each other it will be one confusing game for you.

Did @didsburydan get banned because he was proven to be an Abu Dhabi employed propaganda machine?
I suspect several people on this board are.

So this thread is still in meltdown anyway...

Happy christmas to everyone whose posted in here, even those spouting pure and utter lies (you've made it fun) and those who just dislike City or those who love our great club. Also Namco (I know you still read, out there may Santa bring you the Pep Guardiola shaped dartboard you dream of), happy christmas to you my friend and may all your new accounts stay unbanned.
So more than 90% people praising city is a meltdown now.
When you get a 90% bonus, do you file a discrimination claim against your employer?

I'm not sure if you're being deliberately obtuse or you just enjoy wumming (which is very sad) but the viewership numbers i provided are from the US and UK, hardly limited to the "CAF" as you initially implied. If you have additional numbers you can share then please do. But you probably don't because your initial claim was an unsubstantiated opinion, as I initially suspected.

US & UK make up less than 5% of the global population, myopia

Yet those 2 markets make up more than 20% of global viewing figures for the Premier League.

When you add Asia, of which Manchester United take up a massive and disproportional market share, that's another 33%.

You spout this myopia nonsense but provide no facts or references to back up your arguments. You are truly nothing more than a WUM.

You better watch out, he'll again use that word myopia on you.

He won't get a chance. He's going on ignore. Don't know how the mods have allowed his snide, shit, wummish posting to go on for so long, usually in Mourinho-related threads.

I say this as someone who actually enjoys reading the Liverpool and city threads (mostly) because there are many knowledgeable non-wum oppos on both.

Don't know really. He has been on a wum for a long time now.

Confirmed: City signing Messi in January

Once teams realise getting in Citys face is the right thing to do we will see better results.
A tactic that clearly worked for Bournemouth, Stoke, Tottenham, Napoli, West Brom and Feyenoord, who all "had a go" or "got in our face" and were all swept aside.

Interesting tweet from a respectable guy on Twitter

"Okay. I know they were tbh. FFP are just letters to them. I have more friends at MCFC than LFC, what they are doing is monumental, no one will get near them for years to come. Sports science, lifestyle management, development etc. Beyond PL. will take 10 years to catch up!"

Lol yes you're good enough that you'll win "most" of those matches, but I've watched plenty of City games this year and the teams that sit back and try to defend a lead always lose. Letting you have the ball easily around the box is suicide, with Silva/De Bruyne and your forwards movement you will break down any defense. The best way to defend against you is keep the ball away. Easier said than done though I'm sure.

Only the teams that have actually carried a bit of a threat going the other way have had half a chance. As mentioned above, Tottenham were more than matching you for 60 minutes or so, but their defending fell apart and gifted you some horrible goals. Even we did the same, only when we actually got some balls and tried pressing you back did we start creating chances.

And it'll still be hollow.

They are very very good but I bloody hate them.
This, except I'm not giving them the notion of being good, they're incredibly lucky. I've not felt like this about a team since Chelsea during Mourinho's first stint and Arsenal back in the early 2000's. Before this they just slightly annoyed me with their existence. So I'm actually grateful that Pep has rekindled a seething hatred because it will make it so much sweeter when they fail.

Nobody will ever catch up unless they also plough billions over billions in to every aspect of the club. I don’t think people truly realise just how large the financial disparity actually is.

To be fair, we've been hearing this ever since the City 'project' started in 2008. We're still yet to see any actual products of that despite every journalist in the world talking about everyone else being miles behind, including our 'Stone Age/obsolete' youth academies.

Maybe we should do the crazy thing and stop spenning money unless its on our academy. It was academy player that brought us back vs Burnley and Rashford is hot prospect too.

Doesn't matter how much you spend on a building and the equipment inside it if you don't let the youth players believe they actually have a chance of making at the club by actually playing players who've come through the academy on a regular basis. Spending billions on our academy won't give us better youth prospects, good coaching will though.

We only need 13 wins to win the league now. 12 if we don't lose the derby. That's mental this side of new year.

I do enjoy watching Peps teams for entertainment,he's the new special one.

Now you see I don't get this.

Much like his Barcelona team, because they're so utterly relentless, metronomic and robotic it's almost too perfect. Football is much better imperfect because there's variation. There's never variation in Pep's teams, they always play the same way, produce the same football and get the same result.

Similarly because this happens, there is never a contest which means you're not watching a football match, you're watching a highlights reel.

I truly admire the coaching and the technical skill of the players he gets in, City are a wonderful football team but they are in no way entertaining because the matches are so impossibly one sided.

you can't blame Pep and City for games being so one sided. blame all the teams that set themselves up so defensively against them.
