Zinedine Zidane | Resigns

Most teams aren't like Real Madrid, with world beaters in every position and guys like Isco warming the bench, its only natural that the manager is hold to higher standards with that kind of resources.

If you have to field Moses at RB or depend on Fellaini to win games then obviously no one would sack you after winning UCL titles in a row with squads like those, but that's not the case in Real Madrid
Moses isn't a bad wing back in fairness. His skillset and attributes are well suited to that position.

16 points behind Barca. 7 points behind Atletico. Will he even last until the CL tie?

I genuinely can't believe it. After the supercopa I was expecting Real to dominate for at least 2 more years.

Called this a year ago, the guy has no managerial pedigree, he just inherited a god-like squad and has the presense of personality to handle the ego’s at Madrid.

The BBC has been in decline though, with Ronaldo carrying the attack in the recent past. Now that his form is gone it exposes even more how bad Bale (due to injuries) and Benzema have been in the last two years. Within the next 2 years they'll need to revamp their whole attack, which is no small feat, considering how much top quality forwards cost these days. You pay €100-150m per player and some of those are even in the "could become world class" category rather than current world class. Dembele a prime example.

Man management is an important part of being a successful manager. But, yeah, there are certainly question marks about his tactical awareness.

That there is a realistic chance he could be sacked, sums Madrid up.
Should be given this season regardless of how bad things get.

PSG vs Real has become a battle of the managers now. Whoever loses that tie, their manager gets the sack for sure.
Even if you won that tie, but can't win the CL, you're still in great danger of being sacked. It's more about buying time.

Zidane won't be at risk this season unless we seriously risk missing out on top 4. Beyond that, if we fail so bad that the bernabeu and public opinion will be against him staying, he won't get sacked, he'll resign. He's not Wenger

He wont be the manager next season. Their activity in the summer market will be nice to watch, i expect big things

He’ll be gone unless they get to the CL final, will most likely walk. Serious money to be spent in the summer too, I’d be going all out for Kane and Hazard in the summer at the very least.

Yes, I can see Zidane and Perez have a mutual agreement that he should resign rather than get sacked just to save face since he is a legend at Madrid and one of Perez's favorite people. Perez also happens to have a love affair with Benzema as well, so when the coach and President are behind you, it makes a striker who's playing beyond below form undroppable and with an aging CR7, it's all falling apart before our very eyes.

They are really going to regret not getting Mbappe. I guess they can keep writing fake articles how Neymar is coming any moment now.

He needs to get a few players in January I'd say. Not sure how much they'd be willing to back him though.

Who’s the bigger fraud: Zidane or Lucho?

I can’t decide.

In fairness to him 2 CL and a la liga plus when you look at the young team he is developing

Hakimi......Vallejo......Varane.......Hernandez
........................Casemiro.........................
...............Kovacic...............Ceballos..........
............................Isco.............................
...............Asensio.............Viniscus.............

Plus Llorente Valverde, Odegaard

All under 25 and you have Carvajal who is only 26

Yes they undoubtedly need a few top experienced players to replace the likes of Benzema (totally out of form) Bale (perma crock) and Ronaldo (looks to be past his peak) plus despite him looking good whenever i see him they are contunually linked with replacing navas

and Modric, Ramos and Marcello will probably need replacing over the next few years but with the youth they have and the spending power they have then if they do get rid of zidane (and I dont think they should) then whoever goes in there is walking into a club with a phenomenal set of younger players and no doubt the backing to bring in the likes of neymar, kane etc

They haven’t spent big since James, which is four years ago now which does seem strange. They’re definitely due a big blow out this summer, Hazard will probably be heading that way and they’ll go at Spurs with mega bucks for Kane, plus probably whoever lights up the world cup.

He failed to grab the team from the shite forum they started the season with and couldn't fix any problem, instead the team kept getting sunk lower and lower as the season went. Everything was going for him in the first 2 seasons, his tactics were working and players were playing well, but once the team hit a block he failed to do anything to drag the team out of this and looked clueless on the touchline.

Sadly enough he's just another manager with limited tactical solutions and dependent on his players and single formation more than being flexible.

Players aren't to escape from the blame though. They are playing half arsed at the moment and their form is shocking, but Zidane failed to motivate them to play anymore. He has been too soft on them.

This. I don't see many mention how actually Zinedine Zidane is trying to build his own team there. The risk of course is very high because this is Real Madrid we are talking about. Nobody will wait you to build a team. You need to win right away. I like that because i see similarities to what is Pep doing at City since he joined them. Guardiola paid the price last season wich was his worst ever and now Zidane is struggling too. The question is will Florentino Perez be patient enough to accept a transitional season or he will go to his normal route in changing managers till it click lol

He dint sign anyone in the summer, which was a big mistake, letting Morata go without replacement, was also a stupid move. In Normal clubs he gets another year no matter what, but Real madrid is a weird club for sacking managers. Clearly the lack of investment is killing your season. Dont think running after De gea will do anything for you. You need a Ronaldo replacement, modric replacement, Bale needs to go, Asensio needs to step up, marcelo is a little off colour and you need a defender too. I Think Perz seriously overestimated zidane and the squad and really needs to get the money out in the summer.

He is not doing anything for those youngsters, he actually sold Benzema's only backup. Ceballos hasnt played at all this season, while asensio hasnt looked great. Kovacic rarely plays. Hernandez and hakimi have played less. He is not blooding youngsters.

Com'on, where are the similarities. One is trying with youngsters the other threw almost 400M at it. he was just shit last season. he threw 200 mil at his problem last year, it didn't stick, he threw 200M more this year and it worked. let's stop finding excuses for him.

anyway, this is the Zidane thread so i won't derail it any more than that.

He won 2 back to back CLs, albeit with a world class squad, so he must be doing something right. And even in yesterday’s match, they were squandering chances left right and centre and got sucker punched in the last minute.

Increasingly, I find there is a tendency among football fans to write Manager’s off at the first sign of trouble. Managing a transition and a change takes skill, experience and patience. If clubs don’t give time to succesful young coaches such as Zidane, then what chance do other young managers have?

Who’s the bigger fraud: Zidane or Lucho?

I can’t decide.
Fraud? You need to manage the players more than anything with Barca and Real with the current and recent talent. They win things no matter who manages, just a matter of beating the other. Real did manage two titles in a row with Zidane along with the league which is nothing to scoff at. Not bad for your first gig as manager.

Luis Enrique has the league 2/3, CL 1/3, Cup 3/3. He even had a higher match win percentage than Pep with a worse squad.

What exactly are you expecting here from managers?

Lucho's worst season was finishing 2nd while winning a Copa del rey

Zidane's worst season is fighting to not get into the Europa League
Luis Enriqie had two of his 3 stars misfiring for 3 weeks=dumped out of CL, lost 3 in a row in the league and nearly lost it. Zidane has had all 3 stars misfiring for several months(one because he was injured most of the time)
